Where do old stamping/scrapping magazines go to die?
I was just wondering if anyone knows what these places like Michael's/Jo Anns/Hobby Lobby (or even the big book stores) do with last months issues of magazines like Creating Keepsakes, PaperKuts, Papercrafts, etc. I just can't believe that they sell every issue each month, but I never see any on clearance!! Where can I go to get a slightly outdated issue of these mags and pay less.....anyone know????

I had some friends who worked at a bookstore. They used to tear the cover off the magazine & through any "out of date" editions in the dumpster!!!
I don't know if that's common practice, though...the employees got their pick first, though.

I don't know about magazines for sure, but with paperback books that don't sell, they do this: They remove the front cover and return it to the publisher for at least some portion of a refund. It says in the front of the books something to the effect of, "If you are buying this book without a cover, it has been reported as unsold and destroyed."
You'd think they'd have a better system, like selling a whole selection of back issues to us penny pinchers.
When I worked in a bookstore we did tear the front covers off returned paperbacks (the covers were kept as "backup" for any potential audit) and turf the books -- that's why I'm as addicted to books as I am only now I have to buy them With magazines, we only tore the covers off our imports, the US publishers ones were returned to the distributor intact. Don't know what happened to them when they got back to the warehouse 'though...
I used to work in a store with magazines and they do get thrown away. The covers get torn off and returned to the company for credit and the magazines get thrown away. Technically, no store employee is supposed to take any of the magazines. It was considered shop lifting if you took any from the store I worked at. I'm sure it is the same anywhere. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
Surely it would be more eco-friendly if they sold them to us craft crazy women at a discount rather than trash them?? (that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it, LOL). No doubt if that system came about none of us would buy at full price, I guess they make enough off our regular price sales to justify trashing the rest.
Some of the scrapbook and stamp stores I go to will sell back issues at a discount, that's how I got a bunch of back issues of CK when I first started scrapping and was hungry for ideas!
GEE! I wonder if I asked my local Barnes and Noble if I can buy some of these for a discounted price if they would sell them to me.Or better yet maybe I should just see if I can get a part time job there.Could you imagine how much money I would save.I'd be diving in the dumpster after hours.only kiddin.but the thought is tempting.
I can see it now in my local newspaper.Front page with feet sticking out of dumpster.Local woman gets caught in dumpster pulling out craft magazines.

The scrapbook store in town does this -- they have a whole display of them, people like us don't care if it is an outdated issue -- well those of us that don'thave it yet, missed the issue, or just started scrapbooking, those people -- it isn't like it is People magazine where the news is old, LOL.
It is too bad they throw them out -- mags like that should be at least distributed to libraries or schools if they can't sell them, instead of throwing them out.
