Where are the backgound samples?
I've been through the new catty several times. Other than baroque, dots, and linen, I can't find samples of the new backgrounds. Are background stamps out of style? Many of the amples are quite plain.
When I dont have a background on a card, I always feel like I am missing something ... the card just doesnt look right to me ... that's just me, but I do like using the background stamps. And I'm kinda happy that there are none in this years catalogue that I HAVE to buy ... I have enough already!
I love the Tres Chic BG...but not to use as a BG alone, but rather cut words from it.
In my opinion you choose your style...just because it isn't the trend doesn't mean you can't use it. Of course they are going to show more patterened paper...they make more $$ from it. With a BG you can make a limitless supply of BG paper from mere cardstock!
Use what you like, don't worry about being "instyle"...at least with stamping! hee, hee
I just love the new polka dot BG stamp. It's just what I've been wanting. I like background stamp in general, I hope getting rid of them is NOT a trend.

Yeah, patterned paper is a much better deal for the companies - it runs out unlike a nice piece of rubber that you can re-ink over and over on your own. I can see how the various stamping companies would push patterned paper and encourage the trend since it will very much benefit them.
It pains me to use patterned paper. I will always stick with background stamps. There's always Cornish Heritage Farms for backgrounds if SU! decides to stop the backgrounds.
I love background stamps and I don't really care if they're "out." I will use them if I like them. I certainly have nothing against patterned paper and I've seen so many beautiful cards using it in the gallery. But when I try to use it, it feels like cheating. It's like George Costanza says about paying for parking, if I apply myself, I should be able to get the same result for free.

i love BG stamps and have added a few of the new ones to my list as well as a couple 'classics'. don't know why but i tend to prefer BG stamps to PP.
I miss the use of background stamps in the samples. My personal philosophy is "no naked cardstock" I love my background stamps - I think I have over 30 of them, mostly SU but some CHF -- I just think that a card looks so much better and more finished with the use of a background stamp. You can be subtle or bold depending on your use of inks. I know there are plenty of stampers like myself who will continue to use the background stamps whether they are "in" or not. Background paper is nice, but background stamps last forever and you can make them whatever color you want. I have found that several new stampers I've worked with are drawn to the background stamps after seeing my cards. They've commented that the backgfround stamps really make a card something special -- I like that!! "No Naked Cardstock"!!

I noticed that the samples didn't have BG too. But what is really odd to me is that they have more BG stamps than the last catalog.
When I read this after I posted it, sounded really stupid to me. What I meant is that it is odd that they have more BG stamps and had so many samples without BGs. I really don't like a lot of "naked" cs either.
