Is it just me, or does it seem a little slow around these parts lately? So I thought this might be a fun post...explain the story behind your avatar picture. Did you just snap a photo for it? Is it your favorite tv show character? Are all those little tiny faces your grandchildren?
Mine is my corgi, Addison, and yes, it is a real picture. She is looking up at DH, waiting for him to throw the frisbee disc. But when I use it as my avatar, it looks like she is extremely interested in reading what I have to say.
Don't you love these little dogs? I have two corgis that are mainly black with some brown and white on their faces. Perhaps I should use their picture as my avatar and they could keep Addison company.
what a great thread idea! I am enjoying reading everyone's descriptions and even laughing out loud! Mine is quite boring, just me on vacation in Tennessee last year hiking down a waterfall (not that you can see any of that), but I had to chime in and say thanks for the entertainment!
I have a son with Aspergers, a type of high functioning autism. He's been obsessed with the Japanese language and took it for 3 years in high school but couldn't go on the school's trip to Japan because he wouldn't have been able to handle it. So I told him when he got out of high school I'd find a way to take him. My Dad in the meantime surprised me with a birthday gift of $5,000 for the trip. So when my son was 19, he and I went to Japan and my son was in his glory. We had such a great time! In a restuarant booth in Tokyo he took my picture and that's my avatar. It always reminds me of dreams coming true and my awesome son who is now 22.
I chose my avatar, because I own a bassett hound. Although she is 9 years old. Which at the moment she is outside doing her best thing ,which is howling. As my husband says she is the neediest dog we have ever owned. She is also very stubborn. Which applies to me when I am working on a project. I tell her every day its a good thing that we love her, because she can be such a pest. This a.m. she got hold of a bag filled with rolls and had it over her nose and was running around with my daughter chasing her.

YES, they are very stubborn!!!! Mine has been a house dog since we brought him home, he just recently "moved" outside since he now has a girlfriend and I could not convince him he was not a lap dog!!!! He pawed and cried all night wanting them both to come in and sleep on the couch!!!!
Just have to laugh at the Bassett hounds! We are taking our 1-year-old Golden Retriever (my avatar) to obedience training and there is a gentleman there, a bit older fellow, with his B.H. and you should see them together. He has a sort of soft, deep voice and you can hear him every time. . . "C'mon, Hubert... sit-stay.. " Which really isn't the command at all, but they are so sweet together! Poor man... poor Hubert ~ I just don't think they're cut out for the demands of puppy class LOL! Love 'em.
I had our Izzie as my avatar when she still had her puppy fur - but here she is looking grown-up, probably late last summer. She was one year old on February 6th - and beautiful, I must say I guess I should take a "portrait" shot of her instead of this silly one and do her justice!
My avatar is a handmade card drawn by my darling granddaughter Faith when she was only 6. I love cats and so does she, so she made me a wonderful purple cat card.
If you look closely, you can see my grandma name "Bugga" on the front.
WOW, what talent at 6, i can image her drawings now.
I dont have an Avatar because i still have problems trying to load one. ARRRRRRRR.
Mine is my fat cat Carmella - this is her "oh my gosh I'm so hungry I'm melting away please feed me now before I die" look and she is standing next to her food bowl.
Mackinac Island.... one of the most splendiferous places on the planet . . .
Just a short hijack from another Michiganian (coincidentally, birthday Dec 27th!) ;)
Yes I love the island!! What a small world, same state, same birthday, love the island small samll world. I live in mid Mich but my parents live up by the island.

Wow - the only people who say "mid Michigan" are the ones who live here, I think!! I'm in Alma.
And Gatomom - love your starving cat quotation LOL!!
Really a fun thread topic! It fascinates me sometimes how "different" people are but we still manage to find commonalities!
My avatar is my 70 lb lap puppy (boxer mom, Akita-mix dad) sitting on my db's lap, of course! lol! I adopted Dixie-Doo from the Capital Area Humane Society when she was just 6 weeks old and 8 lbs. She's such a snuggle-bug, can't keep her off the couch or off of my lap even though she's now 3 years old and 71 lbs!
this is such a great thread!
this is a picture of me, back when i was still a natural blonde.
I'm about a year old in the picture, and I'm in my stroller sitting outside by the stoop. The stoop is my grandparent's front steps, in Greenwich Village.
This picture is about 29 years old. Luckily, i DO have more recent pictures of myself, i just really love how my hair looks like a wheat field.

There are several stories about my avatar. I'll let each of you reading this choose the one you think is true.
1. It's my tattoo (which is located on my left shoulder blade).
2. It's Pac Man sitting at a computer.
3. It's a depiction of me sitting at a computer, accurate except that I am not bald.
4. It's a scan of one of my wood mounted rubber stamps.
5. It's just a random smiley that I found on a website years ago.

Mine is a silhouette of my DH on the Esparanza Fire that took place 2 years ago in CA.

YES!!!! Every site needs more corgis, plus I'm trying to talk Mr. Mtgchic into another one (since corgis are supposed to come in pairs, right?).

Hmm...maybe I should take a picture when I get home from having my hair cut next time, that way everyone will think my hair is always that straight, soft, and full of volume!
Mine is because of my Grandson's. We used to watch Sesame Street and Elmo was their favorite, and mine too. They are 10 and 12 now, but, I don't want to change him, I still like Elmo, he is pretty cute - love his laugh!!!
I love Elmo too. Your avatar always makes me smile when I see it.
I am sooo jealous, that on my list of places to see before I die (My bucket list, lol) I have always wanted to go there, and yes "Somewhere in time" is my all time favorite movie!!! My daughters middle name is Elyse, everyone asks her how I came up with it, big movie junkie!!!! I hope to get to visit there soon, but since I am from the deep south (Arkansas), it may be a while.

So many wonderful stories here! My avatar is just my mug late at night holding my camera at arm's length . . . although for the longest time I had my original Monet avatar intermingled, don't know why that happens. I was going to put my needle nosed hound (Tess, a greyhound) in my avatar, and then I worried my face / her face would get people confused! ;) ;) Life is just that way, ya know?
Mine is a photo of my dog, Gracie, a Jack-Russell/Corgi mix. When I first signed up on SCS, I didn't have a good pic of myself available, so I just put her face instead. Now people identify me with it, so I don't want to change it to my own face--no one will know who I am! Plus, I get lots of PMs about her from fellow dog lovers.
