SERIOUSLY though? No Cool Caribbean? CAn we not discuss this horror.
HORROR??!! U want to discuss HORROR? They retired all the soft purples. All the colors I use to design with are gone except Pretty In Pink and Bashful Blue. I'm completely DISGUSTED! They need their eyes checked!

Where did you hear this? This is wonderful news. I am going to have get some cardstock though for PaperDolls and Close to Cocoa for my darker dolls. There doesn't seem to be a replacement for those two. Kraft and Sahara Sand are close but nothing to Blush Blossom!

It was written in the fine print on page 29 in the May Stampin' Success magazine (available to demonstrators)!
I just bought the last pack of markers that I didn't have. Now that my collection is complete, they are changing the colors? I'm not very happy about that.
I'm a little disappointed about the Brilliant Blue & YoYo Yellow leaving. School colors & FFA colors. I make cards for the FFA but I can probably find something close at Hobby Lobby. My littlest LOVES Pixie Pink so probably have to get a few packs of that.
Stampin up for me is easier to buy a little at a time with stamp clubs. So far with Gina K or PTI this option is not available.
Now I have to say I am relieved it didn't work out to join a recent marker share thru my stamp club.

The kit that you can get for the new colors should have a new insert to fit the color collections if I understand it right. Obviously there will not be space for upcoming in colors. So a little re-arranging may need to happen:-)

Well, maybe for the new pen family, but you'd have to buy all the markers again. If the past is any indicator they are made by an outside vendor, although I can't recall the pen maker. They have been available through other outside vendors before, maybe someone can chime in with who makes them.

Includes 13 Stampin Write
markers: Cajun Craze, Cherry
Cobbler, Crumb Cake, Daffodil
Delight, Early Espresso, Marina
Mist, Baja Breeze, Pacific Point,
Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood
Red, River Rock, Tangerine
Tango, and Wild Wasabi.
Replace existing marker
case insert with new insert
and switch out discontinued
markers for new ones. The
case will hold 38 core colors
(Whisper White and Very
Vanilla are not offered as
markers) and 10 In Colors
You do NOTneed to buy all the markers again to get the case if I read this correctly. This is directly from our stampin up magazine we get. The new case will hold the 38 core colors (not any of the new in colors). So, if you purchase the kit you will get the case. HTH!
They are replacing the marker case insert only, not the whole case. I imagine the new color markers would come in a box similar to the boxes they come in now when purchasing individual color families rather than the entire set of markers.
I'm OK with change, but no Close to Cocoa??? Where's a good med brown? How about adding close to cocoa & dumping Soft Suede I'm glad Wild Wasabi & Riding Hood Red are returning. Wish Kiwi Kiss was returning too. So what does that mean for the watercolor crayons and the Chalk Pastels? Any word on those? Thanks for the updates!

I just heard about this and am somewhat shocked and confused. I am happy to see some colours come back/remain, but to me, it just seems like a HUGE cash grab on SU's part (for those of us who now feel the need to hoard the retiring colours we LOVE). SU should offer the retiring products at a DISCOUNT in order to make it up to their loyal purchasers - and not just a product or two - ALL OF IT!! Card stock, Ink Pads, Reinkers, etc! Then, if a Demonstrator wants to offer a further discount, even better! As this "hobby" becomes more popular, I notice that prices keep going through the roof! I'm sure I will like the new colours, but still ...
Good thing I just bought all the reinkers for my current stamp pad colors.

Will customers be able to purchase a set of the new color markers and case insert or will it only be available to demos? Price? (Sorry if this has already been asked. So much to sort through here!)

It will be available to everyone of course demos will be able to order it earlier. We won't know prices until it's time to purchase I'm assuming.
I typed case in my above post about the markers when I really did mean insert....details:-)
As for those who think the change is too drastic, it's kind of like pulling the old band aid off....just do it, get it over with no? I'd rather this happen then one or two colors a year. It was probably not cost effective to do it in phases.
As for the comment about a discount and then a further discount from your demo, you do know that we as demos don't make much off of our sales right? I mean yes we make commission and there are some who do really well for themselves but demos with few customers such as myself can't really give an additional discount, why, because it would basically eat up any profits. And often times we have some costs to make up anyway for say make and take projects. We do have to pay for all the supplies we use or let our customers use, we don't get it free. Offering a further discount is more like giving my income away. So, my point is please don't expect all demos to give discounts...in my case it would almost be like paying you to buy things from me....not good...for me anyway:-) Just food for thought!

Yes, customers will be able to purchase the "upgrade kits" also. SU have not told us how much each will cost. There will be several different kits to fit what you want to replace....markers, WWC, pastels, inks and paper, etc.
I agree with Ted.....maybe retire five or six at a time. This is too drastic!
I agree!
And the kits are going to, yes, make it easy and ONLY a little under $200 you can be completely updated! YIKES!!! ONLY $200! Who are they talking about? ONLY $200! AND I must add I am out 26!!! inks, paper, and markers which cost me $$$$$! This is just too drastic and demos are encouraged to continue to promote the current colors. Honestly I would have to tell my customers to hold off getting the current colors but that is just me.

I feel the same way! Close to cocoa was perfect for making Paper Dolls with a darker skin tone. And I didn't really notice a good replacement! They are also getting rid of Blush Blossom which was the perfect lighter skin tone color. I did see that they are making the Blush Blossom marker still available in the new catty but .....
About the kits, the watercolors crayons are going to be offered as I understand (someone correct me if I am wrong) as an updated set with the new colors and new tins. The pastels with be with the new colors and new insert.

SU is a business and the point of a business is to make money is it not? Why would we not promote the current colors as they are what we have now? No one is forcing anyone to get all of the new stuff right away. In fact SU has been encouraging demos ans customers to purchase the new things slowly, as they are able. If you are a have to have it now person well that's your problem (and mine hahaha). Now I do think demos should make customers aware of the situation but its up to the customer as what to buy. So again why not sell what we have now. If you go into a clothing store they aren't going to sat are you sure you want to buy that sweater since our new spring line comes out in a month? I don't think so.
I'm just glad i'm just a hobby demo and did not stock up on anything. I did get all the ink family pads and re-inkers but it's not the end of the world. I dont like change either but I can live with it. My clients are mostly scrapbookers and really dont care about the inks. They just like the embellies and textured cardstocks.
I'm just thrilled that I was never a business-minded demo that sold off her stuff as soon as it retired.
Now that I'm a stamping civilian again, I am happy that I've held onto my favorite In Colors...River Rock! Riding Hood Red! Pink Pirouette! Wild Wasabi! I've got the ink, the cardstock, and the ribbons, too, so the change will be a breeze.
When I look at the new color families, I think they look so fresh. I love the new Brights collection, and that is a family that I never pulled from before. And I'm just making a prediction here, but I think I'll be eating up that crumb cake with a side of early espresso...yum!
I feel bad for the expense that this will mean for the demos, but I think that in the end, it was a good business decision for SU.

Wont these be fabulous together?! And throw in the Cherry Cobbler (a deep beautiful red) and we have a wonderful buffet!
I think it was time for SU to update the colors. I'm excited about the new colors. I think they match the trends seen in other company's pattern paper and embellishments. I do wish Kiwi Kiss would have been included. The yellow-green seemed to match a lot of pattern papers out there on the market. Even PTI will change their colors in 20 years!
Talking about great new combos, I was mourning the loss of Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa. I love those two together. I decided to check out what I consider to be their replacements, River Rock and Soft Suede. I put those two together, and wow, that is a much better replacement. I'm more and more on board with this decision all the time.
I still do wish that they would have replaced Cameo Coral with Groovy Guava and Taken with Teal with Bermuda Bay. And they should have kept Mellow Moss and used Wild Wasabi to replace Garden Green, since those two colors are closer, and kept a soft purple to coordinate with the other purples. But other than that I'm really excited about this change. Just think how new and fresh all the samples will look in the new catty!

What is exciting to me is that stamps I was getting bored with are ones I am finding I now have ideas for as a result of the colour changes.... my coffee set will look great with Riding Hood Red, Crumb Cake and Easy Espresso!
I think the biggest shock hits hardest on those of us who like to "have it all". Especially anyone who has FINALLY completed their sets of ink pads or markers or what have you.
I just finished buying re-inkers for all the color groups the month before the change was announced. At first I was dismayed because in this economy there is no way I can just buy all the colors to have a "complete" SU color line up.
BUT...I am no longer a demo ( haven't been for five years ) and I really don't NEED to have it all. Not right away anyway. Is it FUN to have it all....of course!! But the last few years have forced my family to rethink our priorities and even though I may feel a small "pang" at not being able to buy all the colors all at once.....it's not what is most important.
I said in some other threads on this topic that even though I had all the SU colors there were quite a few I didn't like and never used. But I couldn't break up the group...had to keep it all together. This change has freed me to dump colors I don't like, and only buy ones I think I'll use.
With this new attitude I can look at the new color line up and appreciate it for being much more up to date. This change was needed for the company to stay competitive in a growing market.
Besides, we can keep using colors we like as long as we have the supplies whether they are retired or not. Unless you are a professional, or even semi-professional craft person who produces finished product in quantity your colors should last a good long while. And if you feel the need to stock up you can, through the company or through places like Ebay ( where i'll be selling off colors I don't want ) or here on the Buy/Sell thread.
I think the new colors accent the old colors nicely. I personally like to variety and depth. I think I own 2 shades of pink and about 2 dozen shades of brown.
