What's more important to you when you make a card?
If you're making a card for someone, do you stick to making something that suits your particular style and personality, or do you tailor the card to suit the tastes of the recipient? Not sure why I'm asking--just curious, I guess.
If it is for someone that I know really well then I will make the card to suit there personallity, if it is someone that I don't really know that well then I go with something that is simple but nice. When I am making cards for others to give away then I try and find out what they want otherwise I go with a general theme.

I try to tailor my cards to the recipient.
I tailor too as I make cards for people - ATM I don't tend to do challenges so I don't make cards and just have them sitting around.
I try to make them for the recipient but sometimes the final product comes out totally different than what I had in my head. Unlike the previous poster, I do make cards just cuz I like to do it (and I can sometimes hide from my kids - lol!) so I do have a "stash" for those situations that just pop up. Lately, I seem to be going to my stash for sympathy cards a lot. How sad is that!?
I try to do both. I don't usually buy things unless they fit my style, but I do tailor the card to the recipient if I'm making it specifically for them. For example, I may use colors I know they like or use a more masculine set for a man's card.

I also try to do both. I like to make cards just for the sake of making them. But most cards I make are to send to someone. I think of their likes and dislikes, then put my 'spin' on it. If I thought something was hidious, I wouldn't send it.
I try to tailor a card to the recipient. For example, my older brother rides a Harley, so I had to get Born to Ride for his cards. The other men in my family are into racing, either cars or motorcycles, so I try to make their cards related to that sport.
The women are easy! Something flowery & it's good. lol
When I am making a card specifically FOR someone, I generally tailor it to suit their style. My dad's cards, for instance, are generally blue and have lighthouses or something nautical on them. My sister's usually have flowers and a pretty color.
It is more important to me that the card if it is handmade speaks that it was made especially with them in mind.
I think I always try to stick to my personal style as far as keeping things cute and a little humorous- but still give consideration to the recipient. I won't send my Dad something with flowers (which I love!) but I try to make it golf themed. I want the recipient to enjoy receiving the card as much as I enjoyed making it and I think that works best if I use my style, but incorporate things they like.
I tailor, but only within reason. Occasionally I get asked to make a card with x, y and z, but it spoils the pleasure in making a card if I am too stressed over fitting in certain elements. Colours, sure, I can work with that, and obviously if I can make it personal without tying myself in a knot I'll do that for anyone.
If it's for family then I try to tailor the card but I first decide what I want to do and then mayve add/remove from the design depending on the recipient.
For all others I go by my gut feeling because I think if I have a feel for it then it has a higher probability of turning out well.
I've learned to stick to my personality. It is what they've seen of mine that draws them to my cards and creativity so why not give them what I got.
I've found that when I cater to their specifications I lose my creativity and it's no more fun to make which leads to me thinking the card isn't as great as it can be.

Mitzi, you said it for me, too. Most of the folks I send cards to are close friends and relatives, and they have the same sense of humor that I do, so it works well most of the time.
I have two young granddaughters who are all about fairies, so I make them special cards with that theme sometimes.
Mostly, my style is colorful and whimsical and that's how most of my cards turn out.

As others have said, I do both. Some cards are specific to the person and others are just general cards and those I tend to make in multiples and have on hand for when I need them. Those will most likely be more my style or maybe a new composition that I am trying out.
Sometimes I make a card with a recipient in mind, but more often than not, I send cards that I already have in my stash. I make a lot of cards each month so I have a lot of different ones to choose from.

Pamela, you said it for me. I make multiples cards by theme. I can usually find what I am looking for in my stash.
I try to make the card for the recipient but I end up putting my own style (whatever THAT is!) into each card....and of course I stamp the back with my own personal siggy.....
Sometimes I just make them and they sit around because I really don't like to give up my cards if they aren't for anyone in particular! Yes I know, I have "give it up" problems..... lol!

Ha! Me too...I have saved Christmas cards that I particularly liked just to admire them later...how sad is that?
Sorry for the hijack. Back to regularly scheduled thread...
