Question What's this black stuff??

Some of my stamps have a blackish gray sort of residue on them after cleaning. And it doesn't come off by wiping with my finger. Is it versamark residue? I've heard that can be hard to get off with stamp cleaner and the pad. Any suggestions on how to remove it without ruining the stamp?

I have noticed that gunk on my stamps after cleaning from time to time, too, and I think it comes from dirty scrub pads. Mine were especially icky with a mixture of classic, craft and Versamark inks. If you have black pads, you can't see how much ink and dirty cleaner are on there. After cleaning the pads, I cleaned that stamps again and used a Qtip to get the gunk out of tiny areas. I guess I have to clean the pads more regularly!

I agree. I've seen this as well. I think that the scrubber needs to be cleaned at the end of every stamping session (which I don't do). I had heard that they can go in the dishwasher, but I ruined one that way. It sort of buckled. Now, I run it under water, then scrub with just a drop of dish soap. Then I rinse really well, shake dry, and set it in the drainboard overnight. In the morning, I'm good to go.

I agree too! Sounds like a dirty scrub. I clean it just like this and it works well.

When my tiny area stamps get like that I use an old toothbrush and a squirt of stamp cleaner and scrub them. It works very well for me.

I love the SU stampin scrub pads, but I agree it's a pain to wash them out all the time. I have put mine in the top rack of the dishwasher without a problem before.

However, I do keep a container of Lysol wipes on my stamp table and sometimes use these to clean my stamps with if I'm just doing a quick project. Then I don't have to worry about cleaning out the scrub pads!

If anyone is using wipes the best would be an alcohol free based one as the harsher chemicals can dry out the rubber and make it hard and brittle over time. If you do use wipes the best thing to do is wipe them with a damp cloth after cleaning them with the wipe.
