I have always bought dp and i have the stacks to prove it. It goes old fast and I don't use it because it is too pretty. I have started cutting it into 6x6 stacks and giving them to little friends (young children) with a stack of stickers, since I stopped using them years and years ago. they love them. i have many more stacks to make.
I am just getting into shabby chic, i thought it was a phase when rachel someone was all over the place, what 25 years ago, it seems to have stuck around even though every year the trendsetters say it will die. i finally jumped on board, surely now that i have bought supplies it will go away.
Not really. He does some origami and origamic architecture but he's a sucker for patterned paper. He's always eyeing mine up saying how it would make a great box or this or that. But whenever I buy him some he won't use it because it's too good. Sound familiar??
I used to say I didn't really hoard paper and then yesterday I was looking at some Websters Pages and realized that I do, LOL!
I'm trying to think of something to use it for besides cards - something more permanent. I've never done scrapbooks, but now I'm tempted b/c of the paper!
If you are trying to lower the pile of 12 x 12 papers consider gifting it to school teachers, YMCA programs, Boys & Girls clubs or Braille Institute. Now with the holidays approaching, you can make neat boxes about 4" square with two sheets folded. Just cut the sheet for the box bottom down to 11 1/2 by 11 1/2 first. Most DP sheets are heavy enough to be be very useful gift boxes.
I'm surprised to read that so many of you are trending away from 12x12 papers. I've been buying so much of it lately. I use it on my cards and other altered projects. I don't do very much scrapbooking.
Ive definitely trended away from stickers (other than alphas and Thickers). Ive given them all to my kids. Rub-ons have found a way out of my regular circulation. I have some really nice once but never remember to use them. Ive definitely trended away from monthly kit clubs. I have way too many unopened kits. I no longer use Prima (or Prima like flowers). I need to either give them away or find a way to use them. Im leaning toward giving them away.
Im thinking that one day a week, I should blindly select a kit from my stash and make a scrapbook layout and card. Lets see if I can fit that into my schedule.

I'm with you. I'm trending away from 6 x 6 and 8 x 8. I make more and more of my own embellishments and need the extra paper 12 x 12 gives me.
I've realized that I don't need to buy all the new SU In Colors everytime they change. Used to be I would have the ink pads, refills, papers, ribbons etc. Now I am just going with what looks different from what I already have. At first I didn't think I could live without them but over time have found that I can. Also I am changing over to the clear mount stamps and so far don't miss the wood. Better in the storage closet too.

leaving the cutesy behind.
Rachel Ashwell! You know, I should correct myself. I do still love the vintage look, and I think it can often be achieved in a simple manner. I LOVE what Julia Stainton does with shabby chic and vintage, for example. Her creations are always lovely! My house is filled with some shabby chic elements. I have a distressed and chipped door over my fireplace mantel, vintage metal rockers on my front porch, old china dishes on my walls, and a little something floral everywhere. I live with three boys and a husband, so I need that floral!

I am not trendy at all. If it is in my craft mess and it works for the item that I am making I USe it. The folks I give cards to appreciate what I send be it out of style, crooked, or whatever. I just go with what I have and it works out.
I've never been all that "trendy" because much of it does not appeal to me. The biggest change is to stop hoarding, buying because it's on sale, or because it's being heavily recommended as a must have item.
I now shop my own personal stamp store (i.e. my craft room), buy only paper that I "know" I will use, try to make my own embellsihments, and read lots of reviews before I buy another tool that probably won't work.
My style is a bit "busier" than it used to be. Years ago when I started papercrafting (specifically scrapbooking) I used tons of stickers. Can't tell ya the last time I bought one of those. I rarely buy 12 x 12 sheets of DP anymore. I prefer to purchase 6 x 6 paper pads since I do mainly cards now. Like many others, I have almost entirely eliminated wood mount stamps from my collection. It is so much easier to store cling or cushion mount ones! I find myself being a tad more technique based now. I tend to try new things more than I used to. A few years ago, I would never dream of making my own flowers and not I try to at every occasion. Things have really changed! And I feel certain my style will change again in the coming years!
Staying away from embellishments and accessories that are hard to match; stopped buying many stickers, trying to use what I have. I don't really consider if it's trendy, clean or simple or anything; I just do what I like. Enjoy using things that I haven't used in a while; chalks, embossing stencils, templates etc... I think I'll use the stickers on the inside bottom of cards on seniment side to decorate it up a bit.

I thought of another one. I am trending away from craft stores and buying items online. I think it's because my stash is built with all the basic supplies. Now, I want advanced art tools that I can not get in regular crafting stores.
my hands and scissors are fine (most of the time).
Thank you, Joan, for confirming my decision not to buy dies. Every now and then someone posts a card that makes me deeply regret my decision, but then I think how much money it would cost for the machine and the dies (and I would HAVE to have them all!), and I just can't do it.
As for the OP, I'm trending away from ribbon and buttons.
I have to admit I have turned away from the clear stamps....gasp!!! lol I have come full circle back to my wood mounted SU stamps. I have the storage space and I love the feel of them in my hand. I was always forgetting about my clear stamps and they hardly ever got used(if ever). I also purged almost ALL of my metal embellishments except for my brads. I still use brads alot but eyelets, letters, hinges, tags all gone I do LOVE patterned paper but then again I think I have apaper fettish:oops:
Can I ask why cut your 12x12 down to 6x6 or 8x8 for cards?
Cluttery cards with tons of layers and embellishments
You know that is my least favorite style. Some cards are so busy it kind of hurts my eyes, you know? I'm kind of sensing that others are moving away from over embellishment too.
If what's in your gallery is an indication of your new style, wow! I especially like "twiggy wreath" "mustard botanicals" and" lime green Christmas"

I'm so glad I'm not alone! I don't follow trends either. I use what I like and what I can make. I make a lot of my own background papers with paint and inks. I love making marbled paper the trad. way that I learned in art classes. I also enjoy making paper with small inclusions like flowers and leaves. I have a flower press that stays full of things I find. When I travel, I bring back pressed leaves and flowers to include in my scrapbooks.
I have been using up my papers making, Mini Scrapbooks. Have look on my blog.
I love your mini scrapbooks! I made something like the one with tags, but I couldn't think of what to put on the tags so I wrote poetry. I like your idea of mini scrapbook Here is a link to my tag book: Magnolia's Place: August 2011
I think the book of greetings is a splendid idea. I'm often looking for new stuff for the inside of the card. All of the groups, classes and web videos have ideas for fronts but it takes a major search to find ideas for inside.
I have trended away from 12x12 paper pads, pastels, colored pencils, prisma flowers, wood mounted stamps, and my cricut. Never use it.
Totally into 6x6 paper pads, COPICS, Big Shot with dies and coordinating stamp sets, baker's twine, clear stamps and digis!

I'm going through a sort of paper crafting metamorphoses recently. I am trending away from a lot of my old style and trending into my new style. Here's what I'm trending away from:
12 by 12 patterned papers
Cluttery cards with tons of layers and embellishments
Shabby chic/Vintage with lots of ephemera
Flimsy card stock
Wood mounted stamp sets
And here's what I'm following now:
Clean and Simple cards
One Layer cards
Good design with bold, graphic focal points
Die cuts
110 lb. card stock
smaller paper packs
Unmounted stamps
Paring down my stash for a less is more philosophy
It's been really freeing to give up old wood mounted sets that I've had forever and start over with new companies and a new style. After twelve years, it was time to do something new.
I am with you! Gave away a bunch of wood mount stamps and am using Recollections cardstock at Michaels as well as loving the 6x6 pads. C&S cards are also more my style. Thanks for this post!
