Wonderful talent freely shared is my favorite thing. It is the one thing that when given is like finding the best prize in a box of Cracker Jacks.

I have quirky ones.

01. Frugal stampers. OMG! I love them! Thank you to all the frugal stampers of the world. I thought this was an expensive hobby until I found you.

02. I love stampers who share their rooms or spaces. I get so much inspiration just from admiring your rooms.

03. Stamper's who use vintage or unusual tools.

04. Any coloring tools.

05. Techniques, Techniques, Techniques.

06. MelStampz: Mel Stampz

07. That feeling when you set down just for free creativity and you see the magic in your work. It's a "Wow!" moment.

YES YES YES! I thought I was alone in this hobby until I met all you wonderful people on SCS! I have received so much help and encouragement! The down side, if there is one, is that I'm a lot poorer due to that Announcement thread! I need to develop some self-control and stay out of there!!!

Anyway...I truly love SCS and how it's helped me grow.....thank you all!

Tim Holtz style of products

When you get into "the zone" and lose track of all time and the end project turns out even better than you could have possibly imagined.

Number one has to be great customer service. After dealing with several companies lately where they totally messed up my orders and now I'm STILL waiting for my product weeks after I initially ordered and delivery was suppose to happen, I'm absolutely thrilled when I order or purchase something online or even in a store and the transaction goes off without a hitch. The bad transaction/customer service should be the exception instead of the rule, and lately it's been the rule. Great customer service will keep me purchasing from a company or store again and again.

Default Gesso?

May I ask, what do you use gesso for? I have some and would like to try something new.

Stamping things that make me happy (in no particular order):

-- techniques that can only be described as *magic,* like heat embossing, shrink plastic, and cracked glass
-- my BFF and stamping buddy, Terrie
-- knowing that nobody else is sending exactly the same card for any occasion as I am
-- having the perfect card for somebody, because I can tailor it precisely
-- having a project come together on paper the way it does in my head
-- actually finishing a big project on time
-- stamping my "maker's mark" on the back
-- compliments

Hmmm, it seems as though Will and Addie must have been been sharing tips on this. I get the paw on the leg that slooooooowly drags back down to the ground. "Oh, sorry, was I bothering you? Well, now that I have your attention, I'd like to talk with you about an important topic: DINNER!"

What stamping thing makes me happy? Hmmmm ... soooo many things. (btw, I'm hearing Julie Andrews' 'Favorite Things' in the back of my head right now, lol!)

I agree with a lot of other stampers, that there's nothing so cool as when the idea in my head matches what lands on the paper. Doesn't happen often and it's a total trip when it does.

I love learning new techniques that look amazing but are actually pretty easy to do.

I love Stickles. and shimmer paints. and twinkling H2Os. (Babydal ... I think I might be related to your crow side of the family.)

I love a card I can send through the mail that looks 'polished' but doesn't require extra padding or postage.

And I really, really love SCS with all its inspiration and support and the virtual friendships that have spilled over into IRL friends. SCS rocks! The people here are amazing!

Ahhh, trying to keep it reasonably short is hard. Here goes:
The smell of paper as you unwrap a new pack of DSP.
Comments!!!
My online friends (you know who you are:-)
Visiting my Mom and finding every card I've made her for years kept on her desk
Posting a card on SCS at 1 am and immediately getting a comment from a nice stamper in Venice, Italy
Stick-on pearls and gems
My Cuttlebug and my Nesties
PM's
SCS is always here whenever you find that free moment to stamp or want to reach out to someone as obsessed as you about this hobby
Joan, for starting this fabulous thread!

Let's see...where to begin?

This thread!
Slice
Cuttlebug
The anticipation of cards to be made from a stamp set.
Retail therapy through craft supply shopping!
Patterned cardstock
How my grandmother saves everything I've made her.
Completed scrapbook pages of my kiddos.
Sitting in my craft room surrounded by all of my supplies.
Time spent with friends crafting.
The creativity.

It is so nice to participate in an uplifting positive thread like this, though the pet peeves thread amused me.

Thanks Joan!

Here's my list:
1. Having a project come out the way that I envisioned it in my "mind's eye". (Others had this on their lists.)
2. Having a crafting accident turn into something unexpected and cool.
3. The community of paper crafters who share knowledge, art, and friendship so freely.
4. Playing with new techniques.
5. The smell of new polymer stamps.
6. Coloring with any medium.
7. Being able to use such a huge variety of stamp styles ranging from edgy to mainstream to cute to vintage to nature-inspired to whimsical depending on my mood.My stamp collection is eclectic and reflects me!
8. Rhinestones, glittery, and shiny objects. I'm a magpie.
9. Heat Embossing: The thrill of watching the powder become liquid then solid never ceases to amaze me.
10. Patterned paper. Beautiful patterned paper. Mmmmmmm.

Smile A wonderful and happy thread!

Funny how I was thinking today about starting a "happy and positive" thread - so this is just perfect!! There are so many stamping things that make me happy - I love........

1. Cleaning and tidying up my Craft Room - it's amazing what you can find that you "forgot" you had - it's like buried treasure!!
2. White FlowerSoft
3. Snowflake dies/punches - I LOVE how you can get so many different shapes and sizes and styles
4. Snowmen stamps - oh, I just LOVE snowmen stamps!! (don't laugh that I live in Australia and it is Summer at Christmas-time.....)
5. My coloured pencils for colouring my images - pencils make me so happy
6. New embossing folders
7. How people take the time to do a new post on their Blog - having only been blogging for 6 months, I now understand how much time and effort goes into it - and how much time and effort goes into step-by-step Tutorials esp. Videos - wow - I take my hat off to you all!
8. My Cuttlebug has totally transformed my cardmaking - and I love that you can do so much with it for any style of card
9. New designer paper esp. the 6" x 6" paper pads
10. Design Teams: people make so much effort to meet deadlines and come up with so many new and inspiring ideas - and I LOVE their enthusiasm - it rubs off!

I have really enjoyed reading this wonderful and positive post. Thanks for starting it, Joan! It is so much more fun to concentrate on the good and happy things. Here are few of mine.

-The most important is I love how supportive my husband is to my need to have a creative outlet.
-I love all the friends I have made here on SCS
-I love that people are so willing to share their creative talents with others just for the simple sake of sharing.
-I love my cats and that one of them always seems to need a nap on my lap when I am trying to paint.
-I love my brushes, watercolor paper and reinkers more than any other single thing in my stamp room.
-I love the many wonderful cards of love and friendship I have received from SCS friends.
-I love white craft ink and white embossing powder.
-I love making Christmas cards of all kinds but especially with snow.
-I love Polar White Flower Soft.
-I love olive green for all things green-trees, grass, Christmas trees, flower stems, etc.
-I love that I discovered in my 50's that I could actually paint and even draw a little. I would have never made this discovery without finding SCS and all of the creative opportunities and resources we have on this site.

I love the Copics. After having resisted them for so long (because of the cost), after I finally embraced them, it was love at first use. I feel like I'm cheating on my watercolours, though I still love them too.

I also love stickles and Primas! I put these even on guy cards; I can't help myself!

On a more, ahem, serious note:
  1. Making stuff.
  2. In my own little happy place. Which just got mucked out and cleaned up. It's nothing fancy, certainly not pretty. Nothing big; it's about the size of a walk-in closet. Functional is about all one could really say about it. But, making stuff in that little finally-cleaned-up space makes me very happy.

~getting a new Unity or Ippity stamp in the mail (but also a little guilty for my obsession, KWIM?)
~Distress Victorian Velvet Ink (did you ever see an ink on something for the first time and know you could use it for soooo many things? love it!)
~stickles, regular, distress, I don't care. i'm really still just a 12 yr old girl who loves glitter things
~kraft card stock, sheets of cork
~vintagey looking stamps especially book, sheet music, postal themed things
~I don't know if I will love it, but I want that "snow marker" I saw advertised in the new Paper Crafts magazine, I can picture it on my Ippity houses for a winter card
~Tim Hortons coffee, with or without crafting

I <3 Gesso.

Okay I did a tutorial on my gesso resist for magazine pages here: Splitcoaststampers - Gesso Resist Technique Tutorial by Lydia Fiedler

Also, I use it to tone down bright papers and give them a distressed, washed look, as in this card. Understand Blue: I see a Kraft Card and I Want to Paint it.... White or this one Understand Blue: Want Three Wishes?

There are transfer methods you can do with gesso and photocopies which are super easy and fun.

I also use it for it's intended purpose - priming canvas - but it's more fun to play with it

What do you use your Gesso for? I picked up a large container of some at a yard sale this summer, now I don't know what to use it for

We must have been posting at the same time

Most of my techniques use white gesso, BTW, not clear gesso.
