Default What scanner do you use - Apple Mac

Hi all! I would love to have my own gallery:p but I am having trouble finding one that is compatible with my Mac. I have 0S X tiger and am having the worst luck and I have been w/o a scanner for many months :( . I have already been through a bazillion Hewlett Packard scanners and had to return them all and have had to take my losses. It is an incredibly long story that started nearly 12 months ago, so I won't go in to it. Suffice it to say, HP is out. So! Help me please!!! I know there are some Mac users here. What do you use? I just wanna scan:rolleyes:

Do you have a Staples or Circut City anywhere near you?

I believe (if I remember right) that an Epson may work with your Apple?

If you call an electronics shop (computer store) they should be able to tell you. Also Dell says they have a scanner compatible for Apple users.

Worth a try!

I have MAC OS 10 too and we just got a CanonScan LIDE60 for $75 at Staples. Works beautifully and said to be the easiest scanner to run according to Consumer Reports. Must be, because I am allergic to technology and learned to do it in under 2 minutes.

Default I know you said no Hp but...

I have an Apple G5 with Tiger OS and I have an HP PSC 2355 all-in-one (printer scanner, copier). No troubles it's the best thing even. Only one thing - I have to wire my Apple to the HP and the Airport Express doesn't seem to work for the scanner - go figure. Sorry, that's likely no help but I thought I would chime in anyway. I was excited to see I'm not the only Apple use out there. Cheers

I have a G5 and Tiger as well. We were trying to go wireless but the HP all-in-one just wouldn't print. And we had to reset the printer every time we wanted to use it:( I've read on the Mac site that HP doesn't do wireless very well but works well with USB.

Aren't Apples the BEST!

we've got an HP all-in-one that's got wireless built in. it works, but it's a bit sketchy and the setup was a pain. they came out with a software update a few months ago that worked wonders though, so check the HP site for an update if you haven't done that recently.

as far as Macs and scanners, remember that macintosh is the dominant platform used by designers and other artsy types. you should be able to find a compatible scanner pretty easily, but I wouldn't do it by brick and mortar shopping unless you've got an apple store nearby, or an apple specialist - they just won't know what they're talking about and will sell you something that "should probably work".

instead, use one of the web stores that specializes in apple products. try somebody like macwarehouse (www.macwarehouse.com) so you'll know that you're only being offered products that are mac-compatible.

you can also check out sites like MacWorld, here's an article about scanners:

Cool

We bought the all-in-one a couple weeks ago and returned it a couple days later. Everything was "up-to-date" supposedly, but after months (and months) of trying to get help with the vertical see-through scanner, I wasn't willing to give it another chance. I checked out the macworld link. I checked them out before, but I didn't see the page on scanners! I could only find printers. So, thank you! I get sick of hearing that "it should probably work." You're right, Staples, Office Depot et al aren't the place to go for Mac stuff. It's like banging my head against a brick wall, and oh, the headache when I stop  I appreciate your suggestions and I will definitely check them out.

Hi Kate! I am using OSX Tiger on a Mac G5. I have an Epson Expression 1680 scanner, and love it. I do graphic arts and design, so needed a high-end scanner, but I do know that Epson has many other models that are great for home use. And, they are compatible with Macs.

I am the office MIS person. It has been my decision to have Macs since they have the least problem with crashes, viruses, etc. We have several Epson scanners and a few HP scanners. Epson has the least issues in scanning. HP works, but they are pretty narrow minded about Macintosh- their company is focused on Windows. (Don't tell my dh I said that- he works for HP)

I also do a lot of work with graphics, photo editing, etc. I need a workhorse!! Do you think the Epson Expression 1680 scanner would fit that description

Thanks, Lori, so much for your suggestion. Epson is looking like a winner.....:p

Ya, my dh and I are frustrated with that. Macs are so stable! I didn't believe my dh when he said that yes, I can download from the 'net, yes, I can buy on-line, yes, I can do my banking and best of all I can do my graphics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm careful, of course, I use the firewall and am careful about sharing and stuff, but I hope I never have to back to a PC (no offense to anyone - this mac meets my needs, that's all)

When we first got the G5 a year ago, first thing I did was a search for viruses for the Mac. ONLY three hits came up. Two were dead links and the other was for PC. Yay! Anyway, I'll be looking very closely at Epson.

Thanks Wynona, for your input. It really helps to get lots of people's views!:-D
