Default What progress we've made

I was just browsing the gallery, looking at examples of some of my older sets, and realized just how far we've come with our stamping. WOW! I remember making cards that had a crimped corner tied back and that was quite a technique back in the day.

HA! I know - I cringe when I look in the recesses of my blog and gallery sometimes! Cool to see that progression isn't it?

I guess it's like bellbottoms and parachute pants - it was all cool at the time

I use to wear those parachute pants when i was a teen in the 80's!!!
Now I would never even think about it!

It is neat though looking at old cards in the gallery.
Just imagine when today's cards are 'old' -
and all the new techniques products for cardsmaking that still have not been invented yet!

I look through old catalogs and old cards of mine and wonder why we thought those prehistoric techniques and styles were great. We certainly have come a long way! Scrapbooks, too.

I remember making an album in 30 days with CM. I look back at it and see all that white space with markered (that's not a word, but you know what I mean) stars, swirls and asterisks to fill the white space. WHAT WAS I THINKING? Oh yea, and those shaped templates we used to make!

Way back when I used to scan my cards (heaven forbid), crimp, use the whole stinkin' stamp pad to distress paper... Although, I think I do much better work getting comments in the gallery is like pulling teeth nowadays. lol! I really don't understand why it has been bugging me lately as I know it's really no big deal. I like my creations, for the most part, and that is all that matters. ;) Must be pregnancy hormones. lol!

I agree with you, and I'm not pregnant! I do think it matters because we are all human and want validation. I challenge anyone to find someone else who doesn't check their gallery frequently when they have uploaded a new card.

...it does matter ... to me too!

Back to the topic-- do you think we were happier mucking around without allthe tools, bells and whistles? I wonder if we are too caught up now in the latest, the newest, and aren't as innocently in love with the craft as we once were.

I dunno, I'm just saying.

I do feel that way sometimes. I love to create, but I also feel weighed down by the pressure of keeping with trends not to mention the vast amount of "stuff" that I have to choose from. (What a terrible problem to have...lol!) I always feel like I need to keep things fresh, rotate out old and bring in the new. However, there are simply things I adore that I won't give up. ;)

Well, I've always been the one to look at things differently, I guess. When I look at my old scrapbook pages and cards, I don't cringe at the "out-of-date" designs and techniques. I enjoyed making those cards and layouts, and I used and did what made me happy then. Sure, my style has changed over the years; but we as human beings are in a constant state of change. Almost everything in our lives reflects that. I also don't feel pressured into keeping up with the latest and greatest. Sure, I love trying new things; but I don't feel as if I have to have what everyone else is buying, nor do I need to make my cards and scrapbook pages look like everyone else's. The second scrapbooking and stamping become a source of stress for me, I won't be doing them anymore. Right now, they are a source of calm and sanity for me. I hope that all my fellow stampers and scrapbookers can find the enjoyment and joy that I find in these hobbies. Happy National Scrapbooking Day, everyone!

Default Remake an old card?

I must share here one of the VSN challenges from a few years ago. We were to find an old card that could be improved on and remake it. Used the same two rubber stamps plus a bunch of added ribbon et cetera. Here are my examples....
