I picked when the mood strikes because none of the choices really applied. I try to leave many comments every day, but I know I don't comment on every card I open. Just don't have the time. Sometimes I favorite cards when I am time challenged, then go back and comment later. I don't always leave comments when there are already pages of them.
I voted "wow" but that really isn't the case; I'll comment on ones that have a technique, color combination, stamp set that I think I could use and will put in my favorites to pull out later to use.
I leave comments when I have the time. And def. when I have favorited a card. Sometimes you are just quickly browsing, but I think it is nice to recognize the hard work that someone has done. I find that I do not leave comments if a card has a ton of them.

If I open it I comment...I too don't get the viewing without commenting. It doesn't take that much longer to leave a kind word.
Can I be blunt but hopefully not rude?? When I did look at the galleries, sometimes I would click on a card to get a better view of it and when I saw it, I didn't like it enough to comment on it. It never occured to me to leave comments on a card just to be nice!!
Or, when I tried to comment, the computer took forever and I gave up.
I'm not saying this to be snarky, but just to explain. When I realized that this bothered folks, I stopped browsing the galleries. I think my personality just doesn't fit with the click and comment culture at SCS. Comments seem to be such a big issue that I figured I better not offend. However, I still have loads of fun in the forums!
ps. With respect to the Fan Club, I look but I don't click. I don't favorite that stuff either.

the real choice for me was not listed..............in the challenge galleries I leave comments on most cards as I feel we are all trying things 'out of the box' and we all need encouragement. Time sometimes stops me from doing that, but I do try. In the main gallery I leave comments on any card I open and enjoy something about. I am most consistent in the challenge galleries.
i voted WOW, but am like most here. sometimes i'm looking for something specific or don't have time to comment. i typically comment on what i click on, but not always able to. i know i appreciate them, so i feel i need to *pay it forward*.
I definitely understand what you're saying, but please do consider that many are on dial-up and sometimes it can take minutes to comment. I sooo remember those days and don't blame people for not posting because of it.

As I am brand new here and from the UK ... and considering that we can't get ANY of the stash and stamps that you girls can get your crafting hands on, I voted for what makes me go 'WOW' .... which is generally ALL of your work.
To use an Americanism - your work is awesome !
I don't think I could ever put anything in the gallery because we can't get hold of Stampin Up Stamps, and I haven't got a clue what the other makes are that you're talking about ............. and even then .... if I did put up something in the gallery, whatever was on it, was probably what you were using about 2 years ago !!!!!
*woe is me*
All your gallery work is fab ... I just wish I had more hours in the day, to comment on more of your work !
I do believe the Canadians came up with that gem, and then the Americans promptly stole it, er, I mean, viewed language as a continental resource and took their fair share. ;)

I hope no one is taking personally what someone else says about their own style/take on leaving comments. I don't think anyone is trying to be snarky or judgemental, just each person sharing their view. So I hope no one is going to get hurt feeling over this. I realize each person is different & there is no "commenting standard" here that people have to adhere to, so I hope everyone will continue to feel they can share their point of view.

Nicely put! We have different styles, different personalities, different needs, wants, etc. No one style is the "good" one. Luckily, SCS has a gazillion different folks making up one big community.

I voted for the WOW because there are times when I click on a card to get a better view and it's nothing that strikes me to make a comment. I don't believe in commenting on cards just because you want to make someone feel good. I comment on the quaility of the work and what appeals to me.
I think that saving something to a favorite alone would be an extreme complement to someone. But as many of us are trying to improve our cardmaking skills, its nice to know what it is about a card that made it a fav. I voted for when the mood strikes me, because I like to make a detailed comment that really gives feeback to the creator. Oftentimes if I see a card already has lots of comments, I'll use my limited computer time and move on to one that doesnt have as many.
I marked "when the mood strikes me." Several things will make the mood strike: "wow" and/or a card with few comments and/or a card with something in particular that's worth a comment.
Sometimes when I'm escaping in splitcoast and not looking for anything in particular, I'll just pick a random page of a random letter in the member galleries and look for galleries with few cards, comments or comment/card ratio find uploads that have been "missed" to comment on. It's fun and I end up seeing things I never would have otherwise.

I comment when I have time, and usually when something stands out so much that I can't help it. I also now comment when I favorite a card, since I know how much some people hate it when people don't. If that is what is considered good community manners, I'm fine with it. I rarely see a card on SCS that doesn't look good (if I ever have), but I tend to comment on those that I have a specific comment for. But not always.
Cards are art. And like with most art, when different people look at it, they see different things. I like to find out what someone else saw when they looked at my art.
Oh, and I leave a comment if something wows me. But it's funny how the mood we are in affects what wows us at the moment, hey? I tend to not leave a comment if there's already a schwack of comments, or if I'll just be repeating what everyone else already said.

I think I fit several categories. I leave comments on cards that are smart (ie. used an embellishment in a unique way, paired stamps from different sets together in a creative way, used a lot of patterned paper without the card looking too busy, used a wity sentiment or used the stamps in a wity way, etc). I leave comments when I have a lot of time. I leave comments when I feel like I haven't done so in a while. I leave comments when someone used a technique that I haven't seen before. I leave comments just to leave comments.
I guess it just depends. But there are also times where I just like to act as a lurker on this website. Just pokin around on the forums and in the galleries for no other reason than just to see things.
There was a thread recently that stated that artists who take the time to post for all to enjoy deserve a comment. So now I try to add a comment when I save their work in my favs. The only exception for me is if the card does not include details i.e. stamps used, paper color etc. I've wondered though if my comments are appreciated - I am a novice who is still too scared to post my own "stuff".

Of course they are!!!!! Hopefully you will share your wonderful creations with us in the gallery soon!
I second Mel! Any and all comments are appreciated! I belonged here for two years before I started posting my cards to the gallery and regret not doing it sooner. Please take the plunge and add to the fun!
I LOVE getting comments, so I make sure to leave many. I leave comments for cards I really like...but, I won't leave comments for cards that have absolutely no information/details about the card....and I don't want to have to 'check out' their blog for information, either. I figured if they couldn't be bothered to take the time to list what items they used to make the card, I can't be bothered to take the time to comment. It's just a little pet peeve of mine!
I've been watching this thread. I joined 7/04. I thought I was someone who didn't need a lot of pats on the back. I CASE a lot from here!!! And...I've never left a comment. Then, I noticed the Favorites choice, so I added a lot to my favorites (great option, since I use more than one computer and I lost a lot of my favorites when my computer crashed. Anyway, I uploaded my first photos recently--first of my stamp space and then recently of a couple of cards (not sure what moved me to do so). And guess what? I LOVE COMMENTS! So, I resolve to leave comments for all the wonderful work and inspiration I see here! I resolve to no longer add a card to my favorites without first leaving a comment! Thanks for showing me the light! Linda
None of your comment poll options really fit me. I leave comments if the card is really cool, or if no one else has left one. I don't do it simply out of sympathy, but I like to look at the cards that haven't been "hit" as much. I also like to get comments on my projects, so I guess other people feel the same way.
I've wondered though if my comments are appreciated - I am a novice who is still too scared to post my own "stuff".
Your comments are definitely appreciated! I hope you'll decide to post something soon. I have found everyone on SCS to be so kind and generous in their comments (though I sure remember being nervous the first time I posted, too, so I understand!).

I voted "Wow" but I do tend to comment on almost every card I open. But I didn't feel honest choosing that option as I've just whizzed through the new DD gallery, looking at many but only commenting on a few. Reason? I know it's silly but when there are already dozens of comments on a card I find the pressure to say something different - so that it doesn't look like I'm copying - simply silences me.
Knowing how good it makes me feel to get comments~ I try to leave a comment on every card I peek at! it is always nice to know your hard work was appreciated and understood!
I didn't vote because there was no option that fit me! LOL! I generally try to comment on anything I put in my favs. That said, however, I don't always do it right away, and I may not comment for a week or more and then sit down and comment on everything I added that week at the end of the week.

Your options didn't fit me either. I don't think I have a definite pattern of my comments, kinda depends on my mood. I try to leave comments on cards that I would make, or wow me, or just cause I know how much I love to get comments! Sometimes I leave brief comments, sometimes more in-depth, sometimes a lot in one day, sometimes none in one day. How's that for an answer, lol

You're not alone. I generally only comment in the DD gallery in response to some cool factoid in the description section. Like learning that thing about pillowcases this month was way cool to me.
If a card jumps out at me I leave a comment. I try to find at least 6 cards a day to comment on. Although their are WAY more than 6 but I only have so much time.

When SCS was much 'younger' and also much 'smaller', I liked to stay up late posting gallery comments on the new posts of the day or of the week, if I hadn't been able to catch a bunch during the day. That's just not possible any more ... there are far more creations than this girl can comment on or even view! SCS members just continue to rock the galleries, and in a sense, that's where it all began!
Lately, I've been commenting only on cards that have NO comments on them after they've been posted for awhile. I've been here at SCS a year and know that especially when you're first starting out, it's encouraging to see just a few nice words on your efforts. But I'm not saying I lie about cards I don't like.

I usually leave a comment on a card that I absolutely think wow's me. I don't leave a comment on all the cards but I try since most of the cards that I open really do inspire me!
I checked that I comment on every card I look at...I LOVE to get comments on my cards, and stalk my gallery all the time to see if I have any new ones (yes, I have a life outside of scs, although it doesn't seem like it...lol)
Anyway, I feel that if I open a card its because I like it and it seems only fair to let the artist know! Thanks for the thread...cool idea!
I didn't vote -- I usually comment when I see a card that I feel is underappreciated. That is, a fine card with less than 3 comments. There are a lot of really nice cards that have not been commented on much. I feel there isn't much that is fresh that I can add to a gorgeous card that has 45 comments on it already. That's just me, I guess. But sometimes I DO comment on them when they really wow me, even if they have tons of comments on them already.
