OK, so as I was trolling through e-bay one night and saw some long retired SU sets with some going for big bucks....I started thinking about my fellow SCS members and wondered what stamp set (long ago retired, say within 2 or more years ago) would you maybe consider bidding on and maybe paying $40 or more for. Something you wanted to have back then and didn't get or maybe something you weren't too interested in and now you see again and you can think of a lot of cool things to do with it. Maybe it was in a seasonal mini catalog or the main catalog.
Actually there was only 1 I would have have willing to pay that kind of money for and that is Magical and Mystical. I got lucky though and checked Ebay one day and saw it brand new, unmounted for $24.95 buy it now price so I snatched it up.

Good for you. That is a good price for a retired set.
Winter is Calling-- love this set but I didn't order it.
Ahhhh...that's the set that got me a couple of months ago. Since you brought that one up, I confess....I had to have it and paid a little too much on e-bay for it...I had buyers remorse at first but since my SIL is a former figure skater and now choreographer for an ice show, my remorse didn't last long because I got busy making her a set of cards as a gift for her birthday and her birthday card using the skater stamp. I put the purchase down in my budget as a birthday gift not another stamp item...LOL. I can see getting more use of out of it to though.
I REALLY want Merry Christmoose - this was before my time as a stamper so I wasn't around to love it and purchase it when it was current! I have been keeping my eyes peeled but it seems no one wants to sell it... :(

Courage and Honor, been looking for ti for a while. It came out before I ever even heard of SU:( Last time I saw it on E-Bay, it was going for around $100, which was a bit high for me at the time.
Everytime a thread like this is started, I keep hoping SU would read it and start making "new" sets like these old ones... obviously these are popular and don't have an adequate replacement among the current sets. I'd love to see a new Girl Scout set, but I'd never pay the crazy prices for the old Girl Power set.
The set I want is Polar Express. I was buying SU stamps then and still have a catalog it was in... kicking myself now that I didn't buy it when I had the chance.

Yeah, I think $100 is a bit to much for a stamp set also but I guess the value is what someone is willing to pay for it. I thought I was nuts buying something for $40
When SU had their 15th anniversary, they re-released some old retired sets--It was one a month for 6 or so months I think. Maybe we will get lucky and they will do the same thing for their upcoming 20th anniversary!
Since I just started stamping and card making last summer, I have missed a lot of great stamp sets. But the one I am currently wishing for is Changing Seasons. I just can't afford what it goes for on the bay.
I have had a lot of luck by posting in the ISO forum. I went on a big hunt for many retired sets in the last year (I just started with stamping and using SU about a year ago) and the ISO forum was incredible for me! Of course, now I'm looking for a French language set... Serenite ... and no luck there.
I actually have a couple of the sets above and may part with one or two older sets, but there are others that I'd never give up. I check the ISO forum almost daily - sometimes if someone really wants something, you might realize that you don't really use it that much.
I've thought the same thing about SU catching on, too ~ of course, this time they did add a soldier set, so maybe there's something to it. I agree that an updated Girl Scout set is a great idea. My daughter would like to be in Girl Scouts and I know I'd want something more current for it anyway.
And I agree also that ebay is usually outrageous, but it's worth checking because sometimes a set will 'fly under the radar' and end up being reasonable.
I wish I had gotten tall tales alpha ... but I won't pay more than original price for it. Of course I have about 120 stamp sets I'd trade for it! hahahaha!
I'll live without it of course but I wish I had bought it when I had the chance...

Cindy, I absolutely love your gallery!
Right back at you Susan. I just spent some time in your gallery too. Really great stuff.
I bought and paid a lot for Scouts at Play. It has been used so much that it was well worth it! I was going crazy trying to find on the farm and I just bought it from someone here. I actually had Merry Chrismoose and sold it. I also had cowboy christmas and sold that too. That went for a lot on ebay!

Some of the purchasers on ebay are not stampers, but traders. They buy, hold on to it, and then re sell! I can't think of anything that I'd pay really big bucks for!

I really like Coast to Coast, and there is an old background stamp of an ancient map that I wish I had, but I can live without them, as I have a friend who has both.
I totally want Girl Power!! I had just started stamping when it was in the catalog and my daughter was too young for girl scouts. Now I am her troop leader and I would love to have it!!
Merry Christmose was my very first SU set I ever bought! I think I have a few of the images still - but i ripped those suckers off the wood so they are unmounted! LOL!

I've come across a set on eBay twice now, but haven't seen it since. I don't know it's name but it features an American Indian on one, a full head-dress on another, a dream catcher (or mandela) on another, etc.
I should have snapped it up when I had the chance but the bidding was fierce.
In the past I have paid over AUD$60 for Dreams & Dragons and I'm keeping it!!!!!

Reason: Added stuff
I searched and searched last year for Girl Power and refused to pay the HIGH prices it was going for on ebay, so I found it on a Craigslist ad in Wisconsin (I'm in PA). I convinced the seller that I'd pay shipping and even send her the priority mail supplies and stamps so she wouldn't even have to take it to the po! Turns out just after we made the deal, she got another email from someone else looking for the set wanting to out-bid me!! Glad she didn't go for that though since I got to her first!

I have wanted Jazzed Up for awhile now. I think it's from 2004. I finally broke down and bought it on Ebay for full retail price. It was new and UM so I didn't feel AS bad...lol
