art training? what's that?? j/k! No. no training here! I just go with what is pleasing to my eye. And practice alot - even I can see how much better I have gotten over time.
Personally, just a couple of art classes in college that were required for education. I do know that some of our talented ladies have degrees or experience in interior design and other similar areas. It's by no means a requirement to enjoy rubber stamping!
I won the Easter color contest in our local paper when I was in 6th grade - does that count? I guess I'm good at coloring within the lines...
I was a fine arts major. I have experience in graphic design. This is helpful I guess. But I think I have the talents in those areas because I am naturally pretty good at working with colors and eye pleasing designs. So it kind of leads into my background. KWIM? But I don't use any of the actual schooling I had to make cards or layouts. I think you just get a feel for things after you spend time trying them and looking at others' work. I really think anyone regardless of background can make great cards!
I have no formal training, but I do believe I have a limited bit of my Mom's talent. She is a watercolor artist and she can set up and then paint a still life that is lifelike. One of my daughters is an art therapy major-lots of art courses there. I don't think the talent totally skipped my generation- but wish I had a little more.
Stick people are about all I can draw. I have no formal art training. I stamp because the hard part is already done for me. I like playing with the colors.

No formal art training. I did take a few graphic arts classes in college before deciding on a career in science. I just do what I like and learn from my mistakes and of course, from all of the wonderful members here at SCS.

I am a decorative painter by trade but most of my inspiration comes from the gallery. I love to see what's out there. When scrapbooking, I scraplift a lot! I don't think it's takes any training, just practice and a love for creativity!
I took several art classes in high school and college. The drawing I do is very complex and takes hours. Although I have never tried to draw my own images for a card or project. My aunt has had her paintings in an art museum in Memphis Tenn. and now she is an Art Therapist. I suppose I got it from her.
None at all. Self taught and lots of repitition and throwing stuff away. My parents were florists so I grew up learning how to do floral design and do well at it. Stamping came along and that has been my push for creativity.
Some; I was an Art's Marketing Major in College with a minor in Jewelry... went to Columbia College (a multi media arts collecge in chicago) and completed 3 1/2 years... long story...
I used to paint and make/sell jewelry and altered objects... but fell out of it and just remained crafty.
I sold fine art for 4 years until I transitioned into the Art therapy field working in dementia services... then transitioned into Healthcare Marketing... but I have always been able to work in creative fields. Now I stay home with my son and stamp!
I have a 4 year art degree where I studied a little bit of *everything* art-related... I have attended a couple of photography workshops over the years... and have done LOTS of self study. But I don't think you have to have any formal art training to be a good stamper. Proof of that are the artists on SCS. All of you gals rock my world!!
I have taken a few classes thru the years. Art and Architecture in high school and a graphics design in college. My mom is very crafty, but in all the exact opposite directions as me. I like paper crafting and she is amazing with paint (not pictures really, but anything else). Mom used to make cakes, I dabbled in cakes and then made decorated sugar cookies for a while. Realized that my kitchen becomes way too messy with cookies so I went full throttle in paper crafting. Still learning as I go and still practicing,
A few years of pottery classes @ community college and a few years of producing pottery for craft sales. The ONLY correlation to stamping would be that your hands get really messy with either medium. But clay washes off with soap and water. Sometimes inky fingers last for days afterward.
Other than a calligraphy class while in college (mom wanted to take it with me as a mother-daughter summer activity), I haven't had any art training since 8th grade.
Mom's a fine artist and until calligraphy and stamping came along, I thought she'd kept all the artsy genes for herself, LOL!
I have a dip as a Visual Arts Instructor Trainer and achieved the professional designation as a Certified Decorative Artist years ago. I have taught classes and exhibited all across North America, been published many times and had my work on tour in Japan.
Having done all of that doesn't really make me a better card maker than anyone else who has a natural instinct for design and colour coordination, you can learn what you need to know by practice, practice and more practice, having a descerning eye and setting a high standard for yourself.
CASE as long as you need too - eventually you will find that you do not need an example to following and will begin creating your own paper crafts that will be completely your own.
Unfortunately for me, I am finding that stamping was a nice diversion while I was taking a break from being an artist, but now that the stresses in my life are lessening I need more of a challenge...so I am back to painting - a still life in coloured pencil actually- and my stamps and other lovely stuff are sitting gathering dust. I'm feeling a bit guilty about all that I have accumulated just sitting here (shopping therapy is great), I'm sure I will find a nice balance between both eventually.
