I do not subscribe for two reasons: cost and inconsistency. Many magazines are expensive and I would be very annoyed if I didn't love every issue in a subscription.
Instead, each time I'm in a craft store (esp. if I have a coupon that doesn't exclude magazines), I look through the ones that catch my eye. Sometimes I even buy one but many times it seems like the cards/projects have already been "done" or are simply not my style so I won't "do" them.
I agree that typos should be very minimal but they do not bother me as much as poorly done cards (crooked layers, lopsided bows, poorly inked images, etc.)
Magazines are very handy for reading in bed, flipping through during commercials, and waiting in various places. I probably get 1-2 every few months but I still have some from 2-3 years ago (I probably didn't look at the baby cards when I bought them but now that our nephews & nieces are starting families those cards catch my eye ... and my style is still evolving so each time I look at an older issue something else gets my attention.)
Well, I get SUPER irritated when they are on the newsstand before they are at my house. Not cool... I won't mention any names, but it rhymes with "Shmaper Smafts" ...
LOL! Once upon a time, magazine subscribers were actually considered preferred customers because they bought future issues sight unseen. I have subscribed to MANY mags over the years and PC is the ONLY one that has ever had it out on the newsstand before I got my copy. They must need subscribers because every time my subscription gets near the expiration date, I get emails, regular mail and phone calls to renew. I like PC ,notwithstanding the Unity Stamp fiasco. I quit buying Stampers Sampler and Take Ten because the cards were not very good in my opinion.
I love magazines. There is nothing like holding them and flipping through and taking with you on the go. I love the glossy pages. I subscribe to the ones I love. What keeps me from subscribing to the ones I don't? If it doesn't inspire me, I don't buy it. I like magazines with great photography, fun fresh designs, and yes...I'm the girl that loves the chipboard and patterned paper projects. To each their own! Subscribe to what inspires you!

Same here, Julia. I don't subscribe but look thru the magazine at the store and if there are a lot of projects that catch my eye I will buy it. I usually buy each issue of Paper Crafts but have gotten annoyed with the seemingly exclusive Papertrey Ink product/designer submissions. Some of the other mags give a fairer representation of a broader range of products.
I had not thought of why I quite buying magazines until this thread and still it has taken me a couple of days to figure out just why I quit. I had let all of my subscriptions expire a few years back when I was running out of room to store them...................I could have thrown them away but did not until a month ago.
Then my favorite book store quit stocking all but one or two magazines. I would sit and read while my dh was browsing.......I would always end up purchasing at least one if not two or three of them. Now that they are no longer stocked in the book store I have SCS to browse and find there are just as many resources here, gallary and the best thing "It does not take up space in my craft room!" Not to mention all of the blogs that are available.
Typos were never noticed.....lol my eyes see what should be, not what is!
In all honesty, I'm too cheap to spend the money. As a librarian, I can view them for free and so can you. The money I save on magazines, I can spend on something else.
I can see saving money. I love the library as I'm always there checking out books. We do need to consider one thing though...if no one purchases magazines, there soon won't be any. I subscribe to my favorites so that I can see them any time but most importantly, I want to support them.
The only magazine I subscribe to is not in my local library. Besides, I keep mine and look through them later. Having them for only a week doesn't do me much good.
I subscriped to The Rubber Stamper and that was sold to Crafts and Things. This Mag
isn't as good as Rubber Stamper they don't have as many card and I have a lot of
Stampin up products so I like the card made from that product, and also the recipe for all the cards and good detail on how to make. Colors, paper
There is more on-line samples than subscribing to magazines. I got tired of seeing the most current PaperCrafts magazine on the stand and had not received mine in the mail. I've decided not to re-subscribe.
I don't understand the messages about rather spending the money at SCS. Isn't this a free site? How do you spend the money here? I love the ideas and creativity--especially for free--or am I being billed?
