I have a question to throw out there. What if you won blog candy and it arrived broken? I would never expect her to do anything about it---good grief, blog candy is just pure generousity, but if I could find out the vendor she bought it from could I return it there? It's in its original package and rattles inside and is clearly broken? What do you think?

If it was blog candy that I gave away, I would want to know and I would replace it.
Hugs,
Gina K.

It wasn't you, Gina, but it was a punch. Should I contact the person? I just feel like that would be obnoxious and greedy.
Blog candy: a free giveaway from a blogger for various reasons..or no reason at all. You leave a comment and they randomly pick someone to receive their goodie.
Kelly....I'm not complaining....its just something valuable ($40) and if I could return it to the vendor bc it's broken I would. Just didn't want to come off obnoxious and ungrateful to the blogger...who I'm hoping isn't reading this ;(
I personally don't participate in blog candy offerings, and I don't offer it myself, so I dunno.
But, I would say that if I were the recipient, and the blog candy were offered by someone on their personal, not commercial/vendor blog, I personally would be inclined not to say one word about it arriving damaged.
If it were a commercial/vendor blog, I would contact them privately; like Gina said, she would wanna know.

Julie...thanks for the good advice. That is what I was leaning towards. How sad...I just had "the Julie HRR" respond to my thread and she didn't even use one of her cute little smiley characters that I so love seeing *sulk*

Even though it was free for you, the person who sent it to you paid for it. If I had spent money on something to send as a gift I sure would want to know. You are not asking her to replace it, but she should at least be able to get her money back. Hope that makes sense
Well, there's the thing. If a blogger went to hobby lobby and bought something to give away and it was broken, she could return to hobby lobby and get a new one. Maybe in the case of a private individual you might offer to pay the shipping but in the case of a business person, I would think they would want to know and they would probably cover the whole thing.
I personally would hate to think that someone took the time to play a fun blog candy game with me and then I sent them something broken- not knowingly of course- but still, i would want to replace it.
Your approach is key. Maybe you could email the person and say something like, "Hey, thanks so much for that awesome punch. I am so excited to use it. I have a little problem and maybe you can help me. When I opened the punch, it didn't work. It looks like it might be defective. Could you maybe send me the receirpt and I could exchange it for one that works if it's from a big box store or if I send it back to you, would you be able to do that? I would certainly pay for the shipping. Thanks again for the great blog cany offer. I really appreciate it."
Who wouldn't want to help?? She can always say, no I don't have the receipt and then you're still not out anything. But I bet if she's nice enough to offer blog candy, she's nice enough to help in this case.
Hugs,
Gina K.

Since the punch is in it's original packaging...could you exchange it yourself at a Hobby Lobby or LSS? Or, could you contact the manufacturer yourself and ask for a replacement (say you received as a gift and are unsure of place of purchase)?

Don't worry about tomorrow, each day has enough trouble of it's own. (Matthew 6:34)
My 2 cents... I would want to know! YOu never know what the mail man is doing these days. I won blog candy once and a month went by and I didn't receive anything so I emailed her asking if she had received my address and if she didn't here it is... can I just say I got the BEST blog candy in my life??? TOns of pp and then pp w/matching chipboard and embellies, 2 pks no less that came in some AWESOME 12x12 zippered pouches. I know there was more but can't remember off the top of my head.
It wouldn't hurt to send an email like Gina (such a WORDSMITH!! **). Either she's going to say no or yes. And it's better than having a broken punch laying around!
If this happened to me, most likely I wouldnt say a word. I think most bloggers would feel obliged to send something else and I feel that would be guilting them into something.
I'd thank the blogger for the gift, then I'd try to contact the manufacturer directly via the web. If the manufacturer asked where I obtained it, I'd say it was a gift. If I got a refund or a new punch, then great. If not, then just chalk it up to another one for the post office.
I agree, tactful counts and since that is where you're coming from I think it's safe. I would want to know if something I mailed got there broken. Whether or not she can do anything is up to her. But at least to know for future reference, maybe the items could've been packed tighter?
If the giver is not a company then she probably bought it on her own and if you complained she may feel obligated to replace it which would cost her MORE money. If it is a Marvy punch, for example, contact Marvy itself and see if they will help you.
I don't know where this can be posted but it is "so important" to wrap things well, especially when they are going via USPS. Punches are really hard to mail because they are heavy and they bang around much more. I wrap mine in bubble wrap and then use peanuts. I just mailed a package with two punches in it. When she received the package the box was pretty mangled (Priority Flat Rate). She was certain that things inside had to be damaged. She was very happy when she opened it and saw that nothing was damaged because of bubble wrap and peanutes. I'm not sure how to post a picture but I can send you a copy of the picture if you pm at [email protected]
