I believe I read where this was a first time thing that they did by opening up to non-demos. Not sure whether it will happen ever again, though it's nice for them to do that!

I'm not a SU demo, so can't suggest anything from that end.
However, for me and shopping, I am a visual person, and starting now, I would check this site for cards you love, print them out, supplies need to make those cards, or supplies you want to try, and card ideas to go with it.
The stamping convention, I first went to was so overwhelming and the visuals helped, plus a small binder with lots of information and it helped to study the companies online, when you get the list of vendors that will be there

We are back in school now too....Though can I tell ya that we had a day off today?? On Sunday, we had horrible winds (from hurricane Ike supposedly) and that knocked off the power in our wide span area. Thankfully we have power but across the street from me (which happens to be another county) has been without power now since last night around 7!! They are saying that it's gunna take 3-5 days which mean I may not have to go to work again tomorrow!!!

But on a happy note, I stamped all day today and made 10 different things!! Oh, how I love no school wind days!!

Not sure how I found this thread, but I am glad I did! Hopefully i'll be joining you all at convention this year! I went to the Orlando Regional, but will be a newbie at convention. Me and the boyfriend might make a mini vacation out of it and spend a week or two in the mountains. =)

See you all in August!

I am keeping my fingers crossed, the economy is getting shaky in my area, and with the low price of oil, dh's job could go any day. I get so tired of living like this, but tomorrow is not promised to anyone, just gotta have faith. But I am keeping an eye on the calendar, I do want to go.

I would love to attend a convention. I gave up my hobby demo status. Did anyone find out if non demos can come? I am in the Michigan area. Also what is the name of the convention you are referring to?

I admit I am chicken to travel alone.:(

Kdg I just retired from Teaching. I was a kindergarten ART teacher for the last ten years. My building was 500 kindergarten students !

This is an old thread. This year's Stampin' Up! convention will be Aug 5-8 in Salt Lake City. Last year they did open it up to non-demos for the first time at a slightly higher price. There is no word yet about this year. BTW, registration for the 4 day event is $280 for demos, so start saving

I have been to two SU conventions and the MOST IMPORTANT thing is do NOT EVER EVER EVER lose any of your papers that they give you. I left my bag somewhere and had a dickens of a time. I didn't care that I couldn't get the stamp set but there was other stuff that I couldn't get. It's VERY important to NEVER lay your bag down.

Oh, and the first time I went I'd been a demo about 7 months and knew no one. I roomed with a girl from OH and 2 from WY. Had fun. More fun if you know someone ahead of time though.

OK...so Convention 2009 has come to a close...how many of you here who thought you would be attending as a convention virgin went? I wasn't able to, as I had to take care of my grandchildren for four weeks (wasn't a bad thing, though, had a lot of fun with them!). Did anyone make it? If so, was it everything you thought it would be? Will you attend next year? I have the chance to attend next year, but it means hubby will be caring for the grandchildren by himself each day of the convention as part of our trip to Yellowstone.

I was there with bells on. It was quite an experience and I suggest it to those who have never been. You can't really explain it until you get there. Lots of people. Lots of ideas. Lots of swaps. Lots of fun!!! Swapping by far was one of my favorite things to do while at convention and it is so easy to strike up a conversation with anyone. I plan on attending next year!
Sorry you weren't there this year Patti. But spending time with grandchildren is just as great, if not better!

Cool

I missed it, and was sadly disappointed. But reality bites, my husband is in oil, and though he will have a job through November, nothing is promised after that. He told me to go ahead and go, but thought I better play it safe.

SIGH!!!! Maybe next year.
