I thought I saw some one use a sticky paper to mask an image that has already been stamped so that they don't stamp over it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about. Sorry I know it sounds confusing. Thanks for your help!
Yes, I know what you're talking about. If I want to mask an image, I first stamp it on a post-it note being careful to stamp near the top where the sticky part is located. Then I cut the image out. I can put the sticky note wherever I want to mask and the sticky part will keep it in place. Do your stamping and remove the post-it mask.
Be sure to save the sticky note for the next time you want to mask that same image. I keep them in the plastic case that stores the stamps or in a file.
Hi.. I use that method all the time. Just stamp the image on a post it note make sure the sticky part is on part of the image. Then cut out the image and place it over the image already stamped. When you continue to stamp, the image that is covered will not be affected.
Eclipse Tape is the best -- especially for heavy masking if you want to brayer over with no seepage underneath. Unfortunately it is becoming harder and harder to find as the overseas manufacturer went out of business.
So I typically do use a post it note -- especially the new kind of post its which is full sticky on the back. OfficeMax has them.
What everyone else has said, but two other things I do.
I have the Zig two-way glue pens, and once you let that dry it's temporary adhesive so sometimes I just stamp on thin scratch paper and use that - or use the Zig to make more of a post-it note sticky for a large area.
For images I know I am going to mask often, I have some very thin acetate (photocopy stuff). I'll stamp the image with StazOn on that and use the Zig to make a permanent mask, which I keep with the stamp. Even the thin acetate is still a little thicker than paper, but once I cut on the stamped outline, it usually avoids any halo effect.
Good pointers from everyone - they key thing is that whatever you use should be thin which is why Post It notes are so handy for this! Like Sabrina, I sometimes use lightweight copy paper and add a bit of temporary adhesive on the back. I love masking and still get a little childish thrill when I peel a mask away to reveal a scene!
My experience with these was terrible. They were so sticky that they tore up part of the cardstock when I went to remove the mask, no matter what I did. I threw my package away after a few frustrating attempts, and a few ruined cards.

Stampland has Eclipse tape for sale. I bought some in October at a stamp show from them. I believe they bought a tremendous amount when the manufacturer sold out. I had used up all I had so I was grateful to find it again.

I have used Eclipse tape tape (in all sizes) and had major trouble getting it to stick, even exchanged it and still had trouble with it coming off and/or curling up. It has been sitting the back of my closet for years as a result. I love the post it notes that are sticky all over and it comes in different sizes too. There is another company that came out with a similar product but it did not work as well, like the Eclipse it would not stay in place.
Just like Lylacfey, I too have also used temporary adhesives. I mostly used them with the Eclipse because it was all I had at the time or because I was to lazy to cut out a new mask.
I have used the temporary method with paper scraps and wide rule notebook paper as well though. DS is in college now & years beyond the grade school wide rule paper phase, lol.
