what's sizzix shapes?
**feels like i am suuposed to know but hasn't a clue**
Sizzix is a die cutting system. I use punches and my sizzix machine to cut shapes from all my scraps. Even if I don't use the kids love to make all kids of crafts with them.
I was just on the forum and saw a lot of information and examples about "inchies"- little 1 inch art works, so now I am starting to collect my scraps ina zipbag that I am going to dedicate to trying this new "thing"!
I have 2 filing cabinets that I keep my paper in. I have a folder for each color and then I put the scraps in a baggie in the front of the folder. I keep everything. I have even thrown away a scrap, then dug it back out of the trash because I decided I could use it. This system really works for me as I always look to see if I have a scrap that will work before cutting into a full sheet.
I have all my SU 8x11 CS in a file drawer - each color has it's own hanging folder. They are arranged by color, not color family -- all the pinks/reds, greens, blues, etc. And the index tab for each color is smade with that color CS. This makes it very easy and fast to find what color I need. If scraps are bigger than a business card, they go back into the front of each designated color and I always look in the front for a scrap before cutting up a full sheet. If they are smaller than a business card and I think I could still use them for punches, etc., I just throw them in a shoebox. I keep all my DP in their original plastic sleeves and put all scraps in the front of the bag so I can see immediately what I have and what sizes. This system works well for me! - Gretchen
I'm a scrapper first, card maker second. So when I do a LO I put anything I think I can use on a card in a basket. If it's too small for a card or I just ended up not liking the paper I put it in a baggie for my friends kids who are emmerging scrappers. Works to keep the kids out of my stash, and my scraps no longer overwhelm me.
I've also taken large piles of scraps to the art teacher at school - all art teachers need supplies for kids to create with.

I have a plastic 8.5x11 bin for each colour family, in colours, neutrals, DSP, Prints and specialty (metalics, glossy etc). They can stack into each other so they take up very little space and can sit on the floor if need be. I just throw all the decent size scraps in there and then when they start to build up too much..I go through them..cut what I can into card size, 1/4 sheet size and first layer size. Anything else goes into a bag and I use it as a "Paper Salad " door prize at my stamp club as I always have an on-time draw so we start on time. I also put ribbon bits into a pretty galss container and when it gets full I do a ribbon salad bag...they LOVE these prizes the most.
When they are cut down I put them in a small plastic container and have made dividers and used the tab punch to make tabs and sort them by colour family. I always go to this box first when I make a card.
Recently I was feeling like I was never going to get on top of my card scraps and so I asked one of my club members if she wanted to cut down my cardstock to my sizes and she could keep all the smaller bits...she loved it! (I knew she would because she never wastes any bits that may get cut at club LOL)

Mine SU cardstock is in a two-drawer file cabinet. I store All scraps in a manilla folder in the front of the designated color. This way when I go to use the color I want, I look in the folder first to see if I have a scrap peice that will work.
I keep mine in the plastic shoe box size box by color family. Then I go to the scraps everytime I am designing a card, to see if I have a something I can use without having to cut a full sheet. I do stamp camps, so I frequently have lots of one size and I try to use them again for a stamp camp so I don't have to do a lot of cutting.
The best idea I heard, give a bag of scraps at an Open House or other event, my ladies really love them, I give them a prize and it didn't even cost me anything.
I stack my scraps in piles all over my desk and then say cuss words cause it's a mess. ;)
Shannon, this is so funny and I can so relate. I have a big stamp room with two stamping surfaces and I end up with about six inches in which to stamp. What is up with that?
I saw this on SCS some time ago. I use the Medium-sized SU! stamp storage boxes. I have two for each SU! color family, with scraps for six colors of each family stored in a box (alphabetical order):
Bold Brights #1 = Brilliant Blue, Gable Green, Glorious Green, Green Galore, Lovely Lilac
Bold Brights #2 = Only Orange, Pink Passion, Pixie Pink, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Yoyo Yellow
and so on for the other color familes. I also have on box for the Neutral colors, one for metallics and just one so far for the Designer Series Papers.
If a scrap is 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 or smaller, it goes in one of these boxes. If it is bigger than that, it goes back into the paper rack on top of the pile of that color of paper.

I don't have scraps. I use die cutting machines and they can use scraps to make the die cuts. The only thing left is slivers that are even too small for confetti.
i am supposed to be doing a class on ideas to use your scraps on cards.

Ooh, I love this idea. I have tons of those empty boxes since going unmounted. I have misc patterned paper scraps in these boxes, but I never thought to use the boxes by color family. This'll be easier than the hanging folder in my file cabinet for my SU cardstock scraps and more easily accessible. This is brilliant.
I use a plastic container that I bought at Walmart for $2.49. It is 12X6 and 10-1/2" tall. I punched colored tabs out with my SU round tab punch and attached those to manila folders. This works well for me. Here's a picture: Scrap Storage 03-08 by alanasnana at Splitcoaststampers
My 8 1./2 x 11 paper is in a file cabinet. All paper is in a gallon baggie by each color and I put the full size and scraps in there (unless too small to do anything with) on a hanging folder. I pull the baggie out when I need a certain color. I look at the non full size paper first to see if I can use them first. Last night I was able to take several scraps and get 18 scallop punches out of them. I was very surprised because the scraps looked pretty small.

I too use my scraps for my CB dies and for my DD to use when she wants to stamp with me.. I have a BIG purple baox filled to the top with scraps. When I stamp I get it out and I usually use something out of it for my card. It's not organized so Ii have to dig and look at the colors...
My DD and DS love the box they know they can have anything out of it w/o asking and they leave my whole sheets alone!!!
I am a teacher and have been programmed to save everything (really I am a packrat!) I have a gift bag that I throw all of my scraps in and it hangs on a drawer handle by my desk. I search through it when I am making cards. I also use scraps to make Christmas package tags and little gift enclosure cards. Scraps are great for making cards to hang on gift bags.

I have the rack right next to me and now I reach for scraps first, instead of full sheets. It's working out really well! It's easy to put scraps away, and to find pieces that I need.
I have a two drawer filing cabinet, which is actually a "leg" of my table. I have a hanging pentaflex folder for every cardstock color. Then I have manilla folder , labeled with the color name in each pentaflex file. The whole sheets go in the manilla file. The scraps go behind the manilla, but still in the pentaflex. I've been using this system for 3 years. I save/use all my scraps. It works wonderfully.
