Default What do you do with your scrapbook magazines?

My MIL gave me all of her old scrapbooking & stamping magazines. I'm talking about 200+ magazines. I'm trying to decide what to do with them. Any ideas?

I hoard them for a couple years, then tear out the pages I can't part with, then take the remains to work for a free for all. You should see the feeding frenzy it causes, a fun time for all.

This is my plan...go thru and cut out the pix and instructions for ones that truly appeal to me, give the mags away after that.

What I do: leave them piled up for years on a closet shelf, drag them out to look, leave them on the floor beside my bed for a few weeks, intending to do the above - who can relate?????

Recently I saw a technique for using the pages in cards, collage type thing - when I find/remember where I will post - Also, a friend of mine recently tried the canning jar lid thing - crimped the edges, applied a mag photo - Victorian style, and put these little decoupaged things on collaged cards - so cool.

After I clip out ideas I might use, I take all my old mags and leave them in doctor's office waiting rooms. Seriously. Teachers at my kids' elementary school love the scrapbooking magazines as they use them fo paper crafts and don't have to worry about them having cigarette or alcohol ads that the kids might see.

If you don't know of a particular teacher that could use them, you could always e mail or call a local school and see if they would like them. Surely they can be put to good use somewhere.

Too funny, I'm in over my head with magazines...I have a whole storage bin of them. I am just going through them now and clipping the articles/examples I want and recycling them. They cost too much to ship anywhere.

I rip out what I want and put them in those clear page protectors and then in a 3 ring binder. The old mags either go to work with me, get recycled, or trashed, depending on the quantity. I have made a new rule, if I haven't looked at the mag in a month, either I have to go through it and rip out what I want or it goes in the trash...I am working on not being a clutter queen!! Well, except for my stampin supplies, lol!!

I take out what I want and put in a little 'ideas' box. Then I RECYCLE the rest.

For all the scrapbookers that live abroad, please consider selling them here or ebay. They do cost a quite a lot to ship, but whith ground mail its not too much. (for some, lol)
I live in Finland, and we dont have any scrapbooking magazines :( I have ordered Creating Keepsakes (and to ship it here its over 60$ a year!!) and I would love to get the earlier copies too. And I know Im not the only one!!

I went through my magazine/idea book stash recently and now have approx 200 as well. These are not just Creating Keepsakes, but old SU! (and other stamp) catalogs, some of the Autumn Leaves books and half a dozen or more varieties of scrap/stamp mags.

Some are going to our local senior center (maybe about 10-15%) and I wanted to donate the rest to goodwill, but dread having to lug them over there myself (they won't come to pick up magazines), so, regretfully, they'll probably end up in the dumpster...

On behalf on Kindergartens everywhere, we love to have a tote full of good mag's for the kids to cut from. I take my left over magazines to school...OK, all except my cardmaking ones...I admit to being a hoarder.

I cut them up and put my favorite ideas in a 3 ring binder. Styles change so much that I find after a few years, I'm not interested anyway.

I periodically purge the file when I think it's getting too big or when I use an idea.

Why watch them collect dust of course! You mean you can use them for something other than a local dust bunny hangout?

Oh geez, I am a total magazine junkie!!!

My favorite is CK, which I refuse to cut up, so I keep those in a mag holder on my scrap table.

As for the others, I go through them again when I'm done reading them and cut out the pics that I really love or inspire me.

Then, I bought a notebook from Hobby Lobby that has blank cardstock pages in it. I adhere the pics in it and write my ideas in the margins. Why I like it, how I can adapt it to use my supplies, etc.

HTH!

Please post the technique. Am really interested. Could be used with other stamping magazines, too.

Without reading what others have said... what would you do if they were clothes instead of magazines? Sort through for items that 'fit' you and that you will actually use, and take the rest to half price books or a charity.

oh, clothes are different, they are easy to part with and always are donated to Goodwill once a year.

I have not forgotten about the technique for collage from old mag pages - just haven't located the mag I saw it in - once I locate the source I will post and reference but I am pretty sure it was in a mag from about 2002 or so. Keep stampin' ladies - I love looking at the galleries.

Sell them on the Bay!!! I bought several crafting magazines as additional stuff to justify the postage on some stamp sets I bought.

If they are more than 5 years old I would say donate them to a school or daycare so they can cut them up for art projects. if they are newer then keep your favorites and sell the rest on ebay or a garage sale
