Default what do you do with acetate/transparencies?

First of all is there a diffference between acetate and transparencies?
Second, any fun things that you do with them?
Third, before I set off the smoke detector with sleeping children can I emboss on them or will they melt? I was wondering about pearlex and versamark - will it rub off?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you buy transparencies from office supply stores, you'll need to buy the ones that are safe to use in a xerox machine to emboss on. If you just used Versamark with the PE, my guess would be that it would rub off. I've never tried it though.

I use mine for templates, smackin' acetate, shaker windows but not embossing on. I haven't tried and think it would melt and smell bad. You can stamp on it with Stazon.

I ran your basic overhead transparencies through my laser printer & printed words on it (like JulieHRR taught me), like "Happy Thanksgiving" & attached it over stamped fall leaves w/ eyelets. Looks cool! It's in her gallery.

Beate taught me how to make glitter puzzles w/ it. She has several in her gallery. You need a xyron sticker maker to do that.

Beate taught me to use them for the technique, smackin' acetate. Several samples in the gallery of this.

JulieHRR taught me how to make an adorable shaker card w/ the transparency as the window, by cutting out a square window in a square envelope! The confettie doesn't have to get stuck in the dumb mounting tape! Very cool!

Beate has a tutorial of faux postage & you use the transparency as your mask for the stamps. Very professional results.

That's all I can think of for now. Aren't these gals the best!!?! Thank you, Beate & JulieHRR! Juddaca

Acetate, transparency, window sheet...all the same thing, just different thicknesses, etc.

Go to Beate's great tutorial on Shaker Cards (aka shaker boxes) to see an awesome use of acetate. See the tutorial on Acetate and Tissue, too! Those tutorials got me started with acetate.

-I stamp on it all the time with StazOn. Sometimes I color the back with a Krylon 18kt. goldleafing pen, and it looks soooo pretty.
-I also stamp images on the front, and then paint the back like a coloring book with PearlEx mixed with Future floor wax. (I use an aquapen filled with Future, but you could mix up a bit of PEx and Future on a little palette...scrap paper, plastic lid, etc.) After it dries, turn it over, and voila! It's gorgeous.

There is a sample of the Krylon (it's the Asian "Love" card) in my gallery, as well as a shaker card and an acetate tissue (although I must say THAT card is much, much prettier in person!)

ReindeerTrout recently hostessed a Asian Swap, and scans of the cards are in her gallery. Mary and I used PearlEx on the back of acetate that was stamped with StazOn, but we used different techniques...she sponged the color on, while I painted with a brush. Different looks, but both cards are very pretty.

And, yes, you can emboss on the acetate!

I copied a RAK card sent to me that had used metalic acrylic "tole" paint on the back of the acetate and stazon stamped on the front. Took a bit of practice ot get the paint to look nice, but reallly liked the look.

Besides all the wonderful ideas already mentioned I love to use it with the All Wrapped Up set. It makes a wonderful see through jar or baggie. I have one in my gallery.

I heat embossed on transparencies for a lasor jet printer, and it worked just fine, make sure you use an ebossing buddy, otherwise finger prints show up on the final image (learned thru experience!! ha ha). The only bad thing about this was that when i scratched it a little, it came right off, so naturally, i didn't scratch it anylonger!!

Does it have to be a laser printer to work for the "happy Thanksgiving" or other sentiments? We just have the good old ink jet here.

I bought (on clearance) transperencies that are for inkjet printers - it is kinda rough on one side - but if you print backwards then you can turn it over and have the smooth side facing out
