What can I do with wood blocks from my converted SU sets?
I have a bunch of wood blocks left over from converting my SU sets to clear ones. I would love to do an easy scrapping project with my moms time out group, but need some ideas as I'm not too crafty The blocks are all different sizes, but I have enough of the same size that we could do a nice project for Mother's Day this spring? Can anyone help?
Well, that is one idea. I took off what I could, sanded and painted some, varnished others with kiddy varnish from the hardware shop and donated them to the local preschool. The kids totally love them.
Just be careful if you are planning to donate these to a preschool or day care. Anything that can fit through a cardboard toilet paper roll is considered too small for children and can be a choking hazard. Personally I would only donate the large and very large blocks.
I did look through the gallery for some samples that you can create with your wood blocks and this what I found. Some of these are Christmas, but you can easily change the theme/stamps to suit your needs. HTH
Not a project, but if you stick some Velcro to them, they make great applicators for alcohol inks/cut & dry foam, a la Tim Holtz.( Just a lot cheaper, lol).
Well... cold weather is coming... kindling? hehe J/K! ;)
That was my first thought. Don't people unmount their stamps to make more room in their craft rooms? Why keep all those blocks that you just worked so hard to get rid of?
I've saved mine for my 2 granddaughters to play with. Don't have that many and only buy clear mount now. I'm leaving them plain, I'm way too lazy to bother painting them!
For those planning on burning the blocks, do some searching in the archives. Some time ago a warning was posted about chemical vapours and breathing problems from the finish to someone who planned to take theirs to a scout camp for burning - just shows we don't know what danger we could be putting our children in when we innocently send them off to camp.
A few years ago when I was unmounting all my stamps my two grandsons spent hours building garages, buildings, etc. with all the different sizes of blocks.
You can wrap string, twine, rick rack, lace, wool, etc. around them and use them as stamps for backgrounds. The images won't be crisp and neat but for certain projects they'll be just fine. You can also decoupage photos onto them for a pile or row of photos on a shelf or desk or as Christmas tree ornaments (use different sizes) or decoupage letters of the alphabet onto them and paint in seasonal colors for Christmas (e.g. JOY, MERRY, etc.), Thanksgiving or birthdays. There are instructions for transferring photos onto wood blocks on the Mod Podge site (I think - if not do a search). Here are a few links I had bookmarked which are rather cute: http://www.halloween-stuff.net/grc118.jpg The Happy Scraps: Harvest Blocks My Creative Way: Thanksgiving Blocks

Sell them to someone like me as I have some stamps with the rubber padding and no wood block to glue it to.
If you post an ISO thread I'm sure you will find some. Lots of people here will send them to you for the cost of shipping. Here is the link to where you can post an ISO thread. Hope that helps!
