I am making my own wedding invitations and am going against all the traditional white/vanilla colors. Fall wedding, fall colors. Here is the link to the card. Please give ideas or tips you might have! I feel that it is missing something.
i agree. i was thinking the middle sized gold ribbon. 3/8? i think. i'm hostessing a party today and was going to place the order this afternoon. I'm not a big fan of the wide organdy ribbon.
I'm not too crazy about the ribbon, either. Love the background and the vellum. Love the suggestion about embossing leaves on the vellum. Would you try making the vellum piece bigger and centering it on the background without the ribbon? Or use a different type of ribbon; grosgrain? I personally feel the organdy is too frou-frou and doesn't go with the fall theme.
i used small amounts of adhesive. with the background you can't see it. i have a stamp that has leaves on it. i might try embossing on the vellum tonight
thanks so much!!
Still working on the invite!!! I have changed a few things - didn't like the ribbon - even the 3/8 gold - just wasnt working. I also have the glossy cardstock for the polished stone and it is sooooooooooooo much better than ultrasmooth! what a difference!
but there is still something missing from this invitation. i don't know what it is!!! any suggestions?
Haven't seen the newest attempt cuz it's still pending. But, my 2 cents is like someone else said...make the vellum the same size as the polished stone...adhere the vellum with the ribbon, but I would try a copper (or whatever the color of the actual wording on the vellum). Please share with us your final version. I am also an event planner and I'm always looking for new things to offer my clients. TFS
I loved the gold embossing on your original invitation. It's more elegant than the black. Try the vellum the same size as the background. Love the embossing at the top and no ribbon.
I think your invitation is just gorgeous! I love the gold embossing. From a graphic designer's point of view, I think what might make you think something is "missing" is some sort of anchor, so that the type on the vellum doesn't appear to be "floating".... maybe some kind of thin border about 1/2 to 1/4 inch in on the vellum? Or perhaps a decorative photo corner on the outside corners of the vellum? Just a thought.
BTW, I really like that the vellum is smaller than the polished stone background... the colors and contrast are really beautiful
There's something about the brushed gold that just doesn't set right. Have you tried the brushed copper? (It is awesome!) Also, maybe try cutting out the "dead space" on the velum. It distracts from the beautiful background. Don't mean to sound critical. Just thinking about what I might try. PLEASE do post your final version.
Hi, I love it. I think putting gold leaf outline on the background would be great and the smaller ribbon. I like the way you have it too.
My wedding is in Dec. I'm putting snowflakes on the background and printing on vellum cardstock instead of paper. I'm putting it all together with silver ribbon.
Good luck on working this out. The other thing you could do is host a swap for more ideas.
I love it, but I think a copper colored emboss would look better. I think a leaf would look better than the pumpkin, too. But, otherwise it's beautiful.
I think the invite looks very nice One thing I think you should check into is the wording though. I sell invitations for a living and names should be listed with a comma between the first two and an "and" between the last two.
What if you make the vellum larger and attach it to the other two layers using the ribbon. Do it just like you have it but cut the vellum into a square and then tie the ribbon like you have it.
I like the first one better. I think the second one looks more like a shower invitation than a wedding invitation.
I liked the use of the organdy ribbon, but I think a darker color would work better than the gold. The gold seemed to just blend in with your background rather than pop.
I'm not sure exactly what your colors are, but we did the oranges etc. for my sister's fall wedding last year, and we all wore navy dresses. The navy really made the oranges, etc. stand out. Maybe you could try a navy organdy ribbon. Anyway, just some of my ideas.
I really like the second one, (they are both beautiful) I like that the vellum is not the same size as the background but I like the ink you used to print the info on the first one better...also a pumpkin doesn't seem very wedding like to me so I would maybe try to find a leaf or something. They are both great, the background is beautiful, don't cover the whole thing up with the vellum. Congratulations and please let us know what you decide to do..

I would really like to know how you custom embossed your wording on that vellum. I just can't for the life of me figure out how you did this!
Anyway, your card is gorgeous, but the ribbon does overpower it a little bit. A thinner version would probably do the trick.
I tried just the black type because i had some people say they couldn't read the writing embossed and gold. I might try the copper paper to see if i like that better. I was also thinking of making it a bit skinnier and have a wrap around piece with ribbon tying it together. thanks for all your input!!!! i'm still working!
