I am helping a friend with her wedding. We finished the invitations last night...WOW...what a project!
Now I am looking for creative ideas for...
1. Napkin rings to go over cloth napkins with the utensils inside
2. CREATIVE ideas for placecards
3. Ideas to cover water bottles
I have spent some time in the gallery this morning but am still looking for ideas. The wedding is an outside wedding at a lake and is casual but we are trying to make it a little elegant as well. The colors are "taken with teal" and "choc. chip" and the invitations have pine cones & tree stamps.
I vaguely recall some type of "tag" to go on water bottles (over the cap).
For a niece's bridal shower I made (York) peppermint patty "sandwiches" using SU's scalloped circle punch (I computer generated the names on clear labels) as placecards. Not sure if it's in my gallery (I have lots of cropping and sharing to do but other things take precedence.) Other ideas could be decorated votive holders/matchbook boxes or sour cream containers with treats.
I think the "Anything but a card" gallery would be a good place for inspiration. Also "home decor" and "teacher's gifts" (I think the water bottles were made for school events).
I just saw in a recent Martha Stewart Living magazine, maybe July or August, the idea of using the rectangular paint chips from Home Depot or Lowe's as place-cards for a party. I thought it was so cute -- and you could stamp on people's names with Stazon. I'm putting it in my idea file for my wedding next June, but my wedding's so casual it could be called a picnic with a wedding on the side....

I love the pinecone idea and I have a friend bringing her Martha books for me to look through
I will have to ask about the water bottles as I actually did not think she was chilling them. These are just to put out as people are walking the 1/4 mile to the top of "hill" for the wedding. I will also look into the waterproof labels!
I LOVE the peppermint patty idea and they are so fun to make but we cannot have anything chocolate because of the heat in California in Sept.
In my mind I remember seeing something that were stamped and placed on a table as guests entered the wedding. These "things" were like a favor but it included the Name and Table info. I thought they were SO cool but now I cannot find it or remember what it was.

Any ideas for napkin rings/holders?
THANKS AGAIN for the help
I think making napkin rings/holders from cardstock may be problematic if you are not putting them directly around the napkin/utensils (premade might be too snug or too loose). Store-bought napkin holders might pose the same problem - I've never seen napkin rings (other than paper bands at some chain restaurants) used when the utensils were in the napkin.
So ... perhaps something elastic (like a wireless hairband/ponytail holder) with a silk or paper flower or heart. Or perhaps the floral department has something "viny" that could be twisted (for flexibility).
The only other idea I can think of is the have the napkins/utensils in a pretty basket or tray and decorate the basket/tray.
Makes me wish I was crafting when I was married (25 years ago tomorrow!)

I don't have any pix, but I went to a retreat where we did projects making napkin rings out of PVC pipe cut to the right size. We covered the outside in paper, then stamped something on cardstock to cut out and adhere to the ring. Just use a glue dot (or some such) in the middle so the image stays flat and doesn't curve around the ring.

I used little tiny spiralbound notepads from an online company that does wedding stuff (this was before I was a crafter, so I had them personalized by the company and they were still pretty cheap). I flipped them open to the first page and used that to write the name for the placecards. You could still use that idea for the escort cards (name & table info) and have them out on trays.
Here's a pic of what I'm talking about, along with some candles I covered with self-adhesive paper and our table names-we used places we've been to on vacation instead of table numbers.
It is natural-looking, would go great with the color scheme, and would be easy to adjust around the napkins/silverware. You could even add a cluster of little hemlock cones.
Please post what you wind up making, we'd all love to see!!!
quick napkin ring and bottle ring ideas---use a Spellbinders Borderabilities die template to cut out patterned paper or cardstock. Makes a pretty and easy border. HTH!
This may be hard to describe but:
If you use a design cut out and punch two holes, thread a tie tag (ya know off plastic baggies) and twist on the back side, that works very nice. A scallop punch would be cute. then they look cute if they are laying down on the table or "standing" up in a basket. And the tie tags don't make a mess like the old curling ribbon does.

what about something like this (from the Wilton site), you could make tje front tag area bigger and write name and table number. They can be filled with candies, flower seed packs, what ever.. http://www.wilton.com/store/site/pro...0053E76905912B
theres a tutorial on SCS they're called 'Pillow Boxes'
i liked the corrugated cardboard look, elegant but a bit informal.

The first thing that came to my mind for napkin rings to fit with your theme, was to use Chocolate Brown pipe cleaners cut to the size to twist around the back adorned with a Lodgepole Pine-sized cone tied with a Teal ribbon or raffia bow to showcase the colors. I have no picture except the one in my mind.
If condensation is a problem on the bottle labels, you could try stamping with stazon on vellum or acetate labels. Perhaps even make the labels out of plain coloured contact- the sticky- backed vinyl you use as drawer liners or school book covers.
For place cards collect smooth river or beach pebbles and attach a stamped name label with a coil of wire and scalloped name tag .
For napkin rings use the cardboard tube from kitchen paper. Cut it up into the size you need and decorate it.
Also for napkin rings maybe some sort of scrunchie (like a girl's pony tail hair tie) made from teal ribbon covered elastic, would be easier to slip over a serviette with the cutlery inside and hold it neatly in a bundle. Decorate with a few flowers or silver wedding style bells.
Good luck with it!
A very simple and inexpensive way to treat the napkins and tableware is to cut a square of cardstock. The cardstock you use can determine how elegant or rustic they look. The size will be determined by the bulk of your napkin and tableware (we used 8"x8" with paper napkin and plastic tableware.) Run a line of adhesive on 3 sides of your square. Roll the cardstock into a cylinder shape and secure. You should have a tube shape that has adhesive on the inside of each end. Press one end flat and crimp about 1" with paper crimper. Slide your napkin and tableware into tube. Crimp the other end in about 1". You can then make a paper "slide" with a label on it if you want to dress them up. A monogram would be nice for a wedding. Everything is contained within the paper tube, crimped shut on each end and dressed up with the "slide" or a ribbon.
For my wedding reception three+ years ago, we held it in our backyard and placed water bottles at each place setting. Here's what I did:
I cut off the label from the bottle and made a belly band of vellum on which I'd typed our names and the date in the font I'd used for all the other wedding things (Save the Date, invitations, reply cards, etc.). I was able to get two or three off one sheet of vellum. I used my tape runner to affix them, and for extra insurance I placed a wedding-theme sticker over the seam. Usually, I'm NOT a fan of stickers at all, but I found some really nice ones in black and silver. They had a cool contemporary look with verses/thoughts on them. The verse stickers were almost the width of my belly band - about 1" to 1 .5" square - so they became a nice focal point on the back of the bottle. It was also nice because this made each bottle unique...no two bottles had the same verse/thought on it.
This worked well, and some of the bottles even ended up in a huge ice bucket (someone decided they needed to be cold, I guess). I was really dismayed when I saw this, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well they fared.
I still have one as a keepsake and I'll try to take a photo, but I've never posted one here before, so I can't guarantee anything =).
Now that I have my Big Shot, I'd probably incorporate this into the vellum design somehow. Maybe using T w/T and CC cardstock...? And since I absolutely LOVE my scallop edge punch, no doubt I'd use this on the belly bands.

Are you set on a "guest book" one of my cousins had a meat platter that still needed to be sealed and fired. She said it was so she could remember all the people being around them for their wedding day each time she used it. I thought it was a great idea. I have also seen the wide mats on the wedding photo too.
I did printer labels for the water bottles for my nephews wedding=they has a moose theme. I did clip art then their names and the date. They fit over the original labels and they were fast and cute

I LOVE this ribbon! It would look GREAT around the center pieces as well
WOW...thanks for all of the ideas! Now I have a BUNCH of things to share with the Bride to Be. I think I three weddings in 2 months has wiped me out as I have NO creativity left!
don't know if this is what you are looking for but my daughter just got married in May and we made all the confetti for the tables
Michaels wanted $8.49 for 1/2 cup of punched out flowers
I had 3 or 4 different style and size punches of flowers and I made all the confetti for the tables.......we had about 1 1/2 cups per table..........saved us a bunch and I did it in the wedding colours from the scraps of the invitations I made
