Default Wedding Gift idea?

My grad school advisor is getting married in August. I am good friends with him (of course) and his fiancee. I am thinking of doing framed art with their wedding date? The last name is Fox, so really short... Other ideas? What do you think?

I think a combination name/wedding date frame would be nice (since their name is rather short). Or you could use their wedding invitation/announcement to frame and embellish, like in a collage frame. My sister received that for a present from one of her crafty friends and it was really nice - it had pearls and other embellishments decorating her wedding invitation. Or maybe you could stamp them a set of thank you cards to use for their wedding gift thank you's?

I think that's a lovely idea.

Some crafty things that newlyweds generally appreciate:

* thank you cards (as mullycat said)
* "we've moved" postcards if they've changed addresses since the wedding
* scrapbooks or pre-made pages for their scrapbooks
* photographs that their photographer may not have caught (silly poses of friends, small gatherings of family members, details of the day (bouquets, decor...)
* recipes or kitchen kits - bundle a recipe card together with (non-perishable) food items and maybe a gadget or two.
* shadow boxes or memory boxes for mementos of their day

hope that helps!

This is kind of generic, but what about a nice "name frame" style welcome sign to put in their new home together?

What about a really nice frame that fits like an 8X10 picture. You can decorate the frame itself and/or the mat inside the frame. And then the Fox's can insert a pic from the wedding.

I was recently married and we got a lot of frame that fit 5X7 and 4X6 photos. Of course, I don't know any scrappers, so they were just frames. I would have loved to get a bigger frame that was decorated appropriately for my wedding (maybe in my wedding colors) that I could insert an enlarged wedding pic taken by my professional photographers.

Just a thought.

We recieved a frame for our wedding that I loved. It was a frame that had three openings for 4x6 pictures (the long narrow kind of frame). The frame was turned vertically. On top of the first opening it said Two Seperate Lives and then above the next it said Brought Together by God and above the last it said Now United as One. There were instructions to put pictures of us as children in the first, an engagement picture in the second, and a wedding picture in the third. It was decorated around the openings. This would only work for certain people, but if appropriate makes a nice gift.
