I'm so excited that I'm all done with my xmas projects. I made several sets of photo transfer tile coasters.
One set is going to my parents (they have 4 grandkids)
One set is going to my parents in law (they have 5 grandkids)
One set is going to my sister and her family (2 kids, but 4 pictures)

They are sooo easy to make! I got the tumbled marble tiles at Home Depot, they come in a pack of 9 for just under $6. I pick pictures and resize them to 3.5x3.5 on Adobe PageMaker to make them square and convert them to black and white and then print one out on cardstock and tape the regular wrapping tissue paper over the printed image and stick in printer again and voila, you have printed tissue paper. Cut the edges. Apply thin coat of modpodge on tile and then carefully apply the tissue paper image on, make sure no air bubbles, etc and then apply 2 coats of modpodge, let dry (several hours to be safe) and then spray acyrlic matte coat (2 to 3 coats) then you're done.

Ohhhh just to make sure when you go to Home Depot, you pick the lightest and smoothest because they have 3 types, one light/smooth, one darker more pock marks, and then one even more darker and more holes. Harder to stamp or do the photo transfers. And also rinse and dry the tiles before doing anything to remove the powdery substance.
I love your tiles. You did a fabulous job on them. Can you explain the purpose of printing first on card stock? Does the print on the card stock transfer to the tissue paper the second time you run it through the printer? Could you please let me know. I would love to make some of these for family members.

I do this so I could tape the tissue paper over the printed image to make sure the tissue paper is printed to take out the guess work. NO the image doesn't transfer from the cardstock to tissue paper. If you only stick tissue paper in the printer, it will cause major jam in printer.
I did this a few weeks ago. I tried taping the tissue paper to the printer paper and my printer jammed EVERY time. Ugh.
The trick is to tape tissue paper on CARDSTOCK... not regular printer paper. I tried that and it jammed my printer. Of course dont' use precious SU cardstock lol! You can use the Georgia Pacific cardstock from Walmart so it wont hurt you.
I'm glad that I could be of a help! Let me know how your coasters turn out! I love trying out new stuff. This is one of my newest technique I just learned how to do! Thanks SCS! You gals are my inspiration!

These are just precious and divine! Thank you for sharing your photos, and the time to give such explicit directions! WOW!
They are just going to love these! What a priceless gift!

These tiles are so sweet. The Grandma's are going to be delighted. A little story....
One Christmas my sister received one of those big plastic coffee mugs with a collage of dozens of pictures of her three grandchildren - lots of years of growing up pictures. So my sister is sitting there with tears of happiness in her eyes, profusely thanking the daughter who had created the gift, when the littlest girl says, "Grandma, it's only a cup!"
Many years from now she may be a grandma herself. Then she'll understand.
