I'm one of those horrible ones. I go to our local antique stores and buy one of their old books. I then tear the pages out that I need. I know, it's sacrilege to tear up old books, but at least they get repurposed. Otherwise, they languish away in a store, never to see the light of day again. Now I feel better.

I have never seen any books inexpensive enough for me to buy or I would probably do the same! I'd like to find some old sheet music too and have never seen any of that.
Thanks hun!
Sorry. We have five or six antique stores here and they all have lots of old books and sheet music all the time. Prices aren't too bad either. Another thing to do is go to your library sales. People donate books and I've gotten a lot of them that way too.

And I THINK the Tim Holtz Idea-ology 12 x 12 paper stack called Vintage Shabby has some text printed pages; but there is also a whole lot of other patterns you might not want.
Another idea if you don't need 12 x 12 paper would be to find an old dictionary or other old book and tear out pages from that. You can buy an Acid Free spray at any craft store to treat the paper if you are worried about it ruining your project over time.
I see after I posted this, while trying to find some things online for you that others mentioned the find an old book and tear it up idea. Sorry for the repeat. You could also use a newer dictionary or book and just distress the pages yourself. Rip them out, wrinkle them up, use some Distress Ink like Tea Dye or isn't there one CALLED Old Paper? Anyway , you get the idea.
Wow, Paula that's awesome! I hear of people all the time finding sheet music and books and I always wonder where on earth are they getting them because I don't see them around here. Now they might be downtown but I don't venture down that way. I'm a homebody.
Cobby, I don't need 12x12 and you're right I could use an old dictionary, I just like the look of the vintage ones I see online, thanks for the ideas! I have never seen any of Tim's papers in our craft store. Can you only buy his stuff online?
Ask other people to be on the lookout for you. My Mom has picked up several books of sheet music at the annual library sale. She has also found old books at the Goodwill Store (or other thrift outlets).
The agency where I work has a yard sale every Monday to raise funds. I found an old encyclopedia there for 25 cents. It is so old, it's one volume... and has 2388 pages.
If you want to PM me your address, I'll be glad to send you some, cause I have more than I'll ever use in this lifetime!

Go to your local churches. They almost always have old hymnal books to give away. I use those..I have a few from many years ago, that have yellowed with age, so I don't hesitate to use them. What good are they to anyone, and there is an abundance of them around, you just have to ask for them.
Cassandra, your vintage sheets are on their way as soon as the snow allows me to get to the post office!

I've had good luck at thrift stores, estate sales, and goodwill for old books, sheet music, ephemera, etc. I haven't had the heart to cut any of them up yet, though
I'm toying with the idea of using color xeroxes of the prettier pieces to see how they fare in my projects while still preserving the original documents, although that kinda feels like cheating so i haven't quite talked myself into this yet....
I stopped into our Goodwill today and they don't have any old books. Stinks! They have romance, cooking and things like that, not even an encyclopedia. I think I am going to hit up the library when they have book sales and see what I can find!
I'd probably be the same way, but I say just rip one sheet out of the music and go from there. Start with something that doesn't have that strong of a tie.
Look around town and see if you have a used book store or exchange...I got two Spanish and one French book for 50 cents each! I got an old art book for $2...Lots of good stuff...

Again I get my from second hand shops that is if I can bear to cut them after I buy them. Hee hee October afternoon has some cool papers. Also waltzingmouse stamps has my favorite of the text stamps next followed by papertrey ink and Tim holtz. I just age them a bit more with distress inks and couldn't be happier.
I hit the jackpot last fall. I got a whole book of vintage songs and some had the old victorian images on it. It cost twenty five cents! I also got a plastic bag full of Christmas sheet musicj for 1.00. It was fun to find it.
I was at a library used book sale and found 2 old dictionaries from the 50's, they were $2.00 and $1.50. They are over 2,000 pages! They have great illustrations in them. I bought them both, it was crazy trying to carry them around!
I gave one to my stamping friend.
Now I have to get brave enough to actually cut into it.
Well if you all do cut into the books, at least scan them to make your own dp to use over and over again. I come from a family of readers, even worked in a book store for many years. Cutting up books is a sin to me, just can't do it vintage books even more so. Just think someday after the Apocalypse, books will be the only way to know where we came from.
