Question Valley & Mountain Fold?

Just wondering what in the world a "mountain" & "valley" fold are. I have looked on here for several hours now & still not finding it. Can someone help me? :???: Thanks!

Actually it is quite simple... but, I was stumped at first... then I felt like a dork.

If you fold a sheet of paper in half... a mountain fold would result in the edges of the paper touching the table while the fold (or peak of the mountain) is in the air.

A valley fold would be just the opposite.

a Mountain fold looks like this ^ and a valley fold looks like this V

a series of repeating mountain and valleys would give you an accordian fold.

The reason they use these terms is so you know which way to make the fold... so the edges point up or down

Now that was WAY to verbose of an explanation... I wish I had better graphics.. but I hope that helps.

Fold a piece of paper in half. Now look at it from the end, the valley fold has it's free ends extending upward and looks like a "V". The mountain fold is just the opposite so flip the paper over and it now looks like a pointy "mountain" and the free ends are pointing down. They are just terms to let you know if you fold towards or away from yourself.

Hi, If you put in origami directions or something to that affect into a Google search you should get some diagrams of Mountain and valley folds. Our school has an origami class and we use these two folds all the time. Let me know if you need some help.

I've done this but never realized it had a name. Thanks for teaching me another new stamping term.

Thanks so much for explaining this to me. Now, it makes sense. Off to "valley & mountain" folding!
