I have a few of those round boxes (round, clear plastic top and black bottom) from when my office gets CDs. They just toss them but I am wondering if anyone here has found a great use for them. It screams to be altered but I don't know what I would use it for afterward.
I did one 2 weeks ago. I baked 4 of those little mini bundt cakes, when cooled I placed it on the spindle and locked on the top.
Tied it up with ribbon and gave it as a birthday cake!
It worked! I guess I should have altered it more than ribbon, but I was rushed for time.

Heehee! These types of CD boxes are referred to as "cake boxes" -- I bet no one ever expected anyone would put an actual cake in one, though!!! What a great idea!
I can't seem to locate my link to the project - but I have seen one of those CD holders turned into a carousel - with beautiful stamped horses and ribbons. Very pretty. If I find my link I will add later!
HTH!

Not really stamp related but a friend turned one into a toy for her children. She filled the clear part with rice and added a bunch of small objects (thimble, marble, toy ring, tiny plastic animals, etc). She glued the base on. It is now an "I Spy" type toy for her children. Very fun.

If you are talking about the CD cases - I made altered ones last year for a stamp camp swap at Convention. I used the Lovely as a Tree set and put in gravel (small) from a fish tank (un-used) to shake it around. People loved them. I also made quite a few as gifts around here- they are a great piece of artwork! They look very nice on an inexpensive stand.

I am not referring to the individual CD cases, but the round box that 25 CDs come in -
The one that I used was a bit taller, I think it may have had 50 or so CD's?
There was plenty of room above the little bundt for the dome. I wonder if we could make a chipboard shelf/tray to fit half way down and make it into a mini cupcake thingy?

I get the CD spindle holders to alter - I have a few myself. But can anyone tell me what are Bundt cakes? is it an american term? I have not heard of them in the UK.
Bundt Cakes are round cakes with a whole in the middle. Generally the cake is baked upside down then when the cake has cooled you tip it over onto a plate to be decorated. Make Sense?????????
I thought they would look cute filled with ribbon and lined up on a shelf.

Wonder how hard it would be to drill holes in the clear plastic sides? And use it like a ribbon purse? For the shorter pieces of ribbon? I am going to have to get mine out (find somewhere else for the CDs) and try to make this
This also could work for spooled ribbon I guess (if the ribbon spools will fit around the spike in the middle), then do a row of holes for the ribbon to feed out of.

They show one in the film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" its one of my favorite scenes
In Tesco's they used to have Angel Food cakes - Bundt cake tins are similar that they are tyre shaped not disc shaped, and more domed for the edges - a bundt cake is very similar in taste to a pound cake. IMO.
