Default Unmounted Stamp question-please help

So I have decided to take the plung.

I did my first SU block. Put it in the microwave (10 seconds) and it came of the block easily. Next I separated the rubber from the foam. There is a thin layer of foam residue on the rubber stamp. Can I stick the rubber image to the EZ mount paper or do I have to rub off all the foam residue on the rubber stamp image?

And if I need the rubber image to be completely clean, will putting it in the microwave longer do this?

Any advice would help!
Thanks in advance-Leezil

I just did some not too long ago the same exact way. I didn't get off every little bit of residue either, and mine stuck to the ez mount just fine. Can I just say...I love that I unmounted??? I did it with Big Deal Alphabet and now I can line everything up on my clear block and it comes out great. You will be glad you did it.

AND... if you want to try another method -- less expensive than EZ Mount -- read some of the posts on this thread.
You do NOT need EZ-mount
I posted it to explain that with SU stamps you can leave the foam on the stamp and buy just the vinyl static cling stuff. It seems some people love it and some people hate it. Lots of ideas in that thread.

I removed it if it was foam residue. It just rubs off with your finger. If it's just gooey, clear residue, I left that on after a few sets because it was a huge, sticky mess. If it's just a little here and there, it generally rubs off too.

I don't use EZ mount on most of my sets...you can take a peek at what I use here.

With my SU stamps, I was able to just peel the rubber off the foam while everything else was still attached to the block. I didn't see any need to get the foam and rubber off the block first after I found I would not be able to salvage the gooey blocks for any other use. All my SU stamps are fairly new; I've read that with older sets, the foam doesn't peel off the rubber quite as easily as with the newer sets.

Yes...

I don't peel my foam off. I use the Thin Mount EZ Mount stuff. It's designed for stamps that already have the foam on them. You can get it at Sunday International too. :-D

I use the same method as Shannon Steubner in post #6 above. With my stamps, I don't peel the foam off, I just apply the Tack it Over and Over right on the sticky foam. I have also read on here that you don't need any foam with the acrylic block, I have a few bare rubber with the TIOAO and they stamp just fine.

Hmmmm....... I wonder if there is an easy way to get the sticky stuff off... how about finger nail polish remover or something like that? I know that baby powder will make them not sticky but they will not be clean then.
After we get them clean what could we do with them? I was thinking they could be for the kids to play with but maybe there are some other uses for them. Any ideas?:-D

I think a floor-mounted belt sander would be the easiest and most time-efficient way. A palm sander would work ok too so long as you had the blocks clamped firmly onto your work surface.

Some very creative folks have used wood blocks to make photo holders (the gator clip kind), a base to hold wood letters up on dowels, and as a form of altered canvas.
