Can I say that was the EASIEST thing I have ever done. I just used a knife to run under the seem then some small scissors to cut thru the seam. It just peeled right off leaving all the sticky on the wheel. I mounted them on EZ mount. They stamped perfect too, I havent used my wheels in ages. Now I can tell ya I will be buying lots of wheels lol
I unmounted a few of mine about 2 weeks ago....WOW!!! I love it! I don't use EZmount, I just add a little wacky tack glue and off I go. I have used them more in the last week than I have in the past 3 years!!! Woo-hoo!
I unmounted mine as I never used them on the wheel. Any time I tried to use them they would roll crooked, so I wasted alot of cardstock. I just wasnt good at rolling them I guess. I never bought a wheel guide, so dont know if it would have helped. I will have to measure them, but I think they are longer than 6" for sure. THey are just a little longer than my long acrylic block I already had from CTMH.
Okay, I'm curious too. Why unmount? And how do you use them unmounted? Please enlighten me.
You can buy EZ Mount which puts foam on them and the one side is cling side for sticking it on your acrylic block. They are just easier to use unmounted to me.
Well thanks for the tip. I have not bought any yet because I didn't think I would like using them. I use all of my stamps unmounted (no wood) so maybe I will buy one of these and try it! Do they come mounted on the wheel when you buy them?
You girls are brave! I have unmounted over 350 stamp sets but I will not unmount my 100 wheels. One of the main reasons I got my wheels was for quick backgrounds. I love using them that way! I'm curious to see how much you all love your unmounted wheels. I don't think I can be swayed on this one but you never know.
I love the fact that I have unmounted all my wheels - I use them more now and I love them more now because I use them. However, if I was using them for quick backgrounds such as robyn is, then I would agree that its not a good idea to unmount them. I bought an acrylic block from ebay and it is 2-1/2" x 8" and it works perfectly!
I never got a straight roll out of any of them and the seam always showed up if I did get a roll I could use. Wasted alot of time and paper with the wheels.

Just try one wheel I think it is just as quick to use.
Robyn, are you using your wheels for cards or scrapbooks? If you're using them for cards, it's almost as quick as rolling the wheel across. (Quicker for me ;) ) But I can see why you'd want to keep them on the wheel if you are using them for scrapbooks or wrapping paper.
It takes 2 impressions with a jumbo wheel to cover a card and about 3 - 4 with the standard size. I like that I can get the image perfect EVERYTIME, not just sometimes as I did when it was on the plastic part. I had given up on wheels altogether until I UM mine.
I'd try a current wheel first, that way if you hate it, you can replace it, no harm done.
I never use my wheels...this might be the solution for me. I'm going to do one and see how that works. So, I just slice thru the seam with a knife and pull it off, right? I might use mine more, plus I can store them easier too.
Where do you buy easy mount? I just used a wheel last night and I wasted a whole sheet of paper trying to get a good impression. I think I'll try this.
I love using my wheels for quick background, especially on scrapbook pages. It seems it would be harder to use them unmounted as a background stamp; trying to get the impressions to line up evenly.
I find if I hold the handle toward the front (closer to the wheel) and apply even pressure I get a straight and even impression.
Also if you are right-handed start from the left side of the paper and work across to the right (opposite if you are left-handed.) That way you can line up your next impression with your last. If you start from the right side of the paper and work across it is harder to line up your "rolls" as you are looking over the back of your hand.
Eureka!!! Thank goodness for this thread!! As someone that has a very serious 'wheel handi cap', this is just what I needed!! There have been wheels that I just loved but never bought any (or the rollers/inkers, etc) because I could never get it right while trying them at workshops and stuff!! But now I can...yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Tack 'n' Peel works really good. You put it on your acrilyc block and then just stick on your stamp. Clean and remove. Pretty slick and you don't need to keep buying EZ Mount.

You should see me whip out my wheels. I'm a pretty fast "wheeler", ask anyone. I work with 12x12 cardstock for scrapbooking and I own all 60 colors in ink cartridges. Doesn't seem like it would be faster for me to have to reink every time I wanted to make a background and then to line them up straight. I have unmounted all my SU sets so I am not against unmounting but I don't think the wheels would work for me.
I am usually so hesitant to do stuff like this!!!
Does anyone have a picture you could post? And are you re-mounting onto wood...I feel a little clueless here!!! lol
Glad I found this thread. I have several wheels and I think I may just unmount them. The reason is actually two-fold: 1) I never seem to get a good cover and 2) I HATE the seam! You can get EZ Mount from Sunday International which is located in Huntington Beach, CA. Their website is: http://www.sundayint.com/. Good people to do business with. I'm definately going to try this. Thanks!

I've unmounted a few of my wheels. So far, I've only done the ones that gave me the most trouble - the ones that made me waste whole sheets of paper trying to get a clean image. I'm really happy with them this way. I will probably unmount more of them as time goes on.
Another nice thing about unmounting wheels - it's really easy to trim them when they're unmounted. Take off that extra rubber on the sides that's been giving you fits!

I will take a picture of them unmounted later when my little one is napping. If you put them on ezmount, you use a clear block to stick it on. Then just peel off block when you are done.
Here is a link to laurakj's blog tutorial for unmounting wheels (it's great with lots of pics!) I don't have any wheels yet, but since I see I can unmount them, I want to try a few...especially the jumbo wheels!

GREAT TIP!!! I never thought of that, but it's true, I am busy looking backwards over my hand when I'm trying to line up the images.....
