After much deliberation, a test run to see if I would like the wheels unmounted and remounting one on the wheel to see if I could do that, I took the plunge and unmounted my 67 regular wheels and 26 jumbo wheels today!
It was very easy and only took 3 hours. Now it took that long because I removed the adhesive from the rubber and the plastic wheel (I'm giving the wheels to my DH for whatever project he comes up with.)
I'm keeping 4 of the regular plastic wheels and 2 of the jumbo plastic wheels for remounting when I feel the need to roll!
Here are some pictures of the drawers of wheels before and after. It is a real space saver.
I have put Ailene's TIO&O on the jumbos, so far. My plan is to stamp each one with Stazon jet black on a transparency sheet and then stick the rubber on the other side. Then I'll put the entire transparency sheet into a sheet protector. When I get that far, I'll post more pictures.
I know I'm going to like working with my wheels more this way. Thanks to everyone who has gone before and showed us the way!
Good for you! I actually use my wheel now that I have them unmounted. I also took one of them and cut it apart and got 13 individual stamps out of it (Friendly words I think its called). I did buy a 2nd one just in case I wanted it all together to make a background or "ribbon" of words with it. You're also storing yours the same way I have all my stamps stored. I have a blog post with a couple pictures if you want to take a look at mine here: Cat's unmounted stamp storage

Yes, Cat_Woman, I am using your method of storage.
I am also unmounting my stamp sets. I already have a binder with each stamp set stamped on a separate page. I'll post a sample of the unmounted stamp sets when I get some of the done, too.

I'm with you I actually use my wheels now that they are unmounted. I love them. I have also cut one up. I cut up the Hero one and love it. I never used it when it was whole but have since I cut it up.
Now I need to find a better way to attach it to the block. Right now I'm using double sided tape and that works ok but is a pain to get off the block. I guess I need to check into the tack it over and over stuff.
I love how much more storage you have now. Those pictures say it all. I only had about 8 regular and 3 jumbo.
I unmounted my wheels (I think I have five regular and one jumbo, LOL) and put them on EZ mount. I just use my long skinny acrylic block to stamp them.
I unmounted mine a couple of years ago ... I love the fact that I gained a whole shelf after I took them apart & I find I use them more often.
With the exception of about 6 wheels, I have them all stored together in the SU DVD cases with coordinating stamp set. They fit perfect and I don't have to go seaching somewhere else for them!
Quick question for y'all - when the jumbo wheels are unmounted, will they fit on the long skinny acrylic SU! block (Block I in the catalog - 5 7/8" x 2 1/4")? Thanks!

I don't know about the SU block, but I use my C plate from my cuttlebug and it fits. I use it for all my larger stamps.
I'm like the rest of you... I can't believe how much more I am willing to use my wheels now that they are unmounted. Wonder why it took me so long to figure that one out!!
I unmounted mine about a year ago, but haven't used them at all. I don't have a cuttlebug, and haven't found a block that fits the jumbo wheels.
Anybody found a block that fits?
Leah
stampindoe - WOW!!! I can't believe the difference in storage!
Yes, I'm going to need those drawers for all my punches!
Didn't get to work on this project today, but I have the jumbos with Ailene's TIO&O on them already dried.

Cheryl, I unmounted my Very Vintage wheel and it measures almost 7" x a tad over 2" so that SU! block is not long enough to fit the entire stamp on.
I use a 2" x 12" acrylic block made by Apple Pie Memories and it's great. The one I have is on this page but I notice there is another further down the page that is 2 1/2" x 8" and it has gridlines and finger grips - that one may be even better!

Same here. Even when I was a demonstrator, I hated wheelin'. It always came out crooked or unevenly inked. No more!
I also love to cut apart those sentiment wheels. Such a cheap way to get a lot of sentiments!
Are you using your un mounted wheel stamps just on cards... what I mean is how easy is it to line up the image once you have unmounted the wheel?
I've been thinming about doing it for a while but was concerned about lining it all up!
Its way easier to line up an unmounted wheel and stamp straight and even the a mounted wheel. IMHO
I never used my wheels I could never get them straight or even or where I wanted the image to go. Now I love my wheels and use them all the time. I also cut up a few of them. The two military ones, sorry can't think of their names right now. I love them even more after I cut them up. I can use the words in more ways then I could the whole wheel.
