Why is it that whenever Joann's or Michael's has a good coupon, everything that I need or is worth buying is on sale and I can't use the coupons? I have 4 50% off coupons (and some 40% off ones too) sitting here and of course, the adhesive I need is 25% off. Happens to me every.single.time!!! They do this on purpose, don't they?
Sorry, I just had to rant since this is about the 1,000,000,000,000 time this has happened to me.
I have noticed that whenever they have a 50% off coupon, they also have 40% off all papercrafting. But that's ok - I can save a little less on LOTS of things instead of going in for just one

I hear ya and completely understand. I threw out 4 50% off coupons because I honestly didn't need anything and didn't want to spend the money just because I had the coupons. They always have coupons with the receipts now, so I'm not worried about it. I just hate that all the Cricut stuff can never be used with the coupons. I always buy my Cricut stuff online because it's cheaper.

I don't know if joann's or michael's does this, but hobby lobby will let you use their coupon instead of the sale. So if, say, rubber stamps were 30% off, but you wanted to use your 40% coupon on one of them, the would take 40% instead of the 30%. At least the are SUPPOSED to do this.
Happened to me just last weekend. I had a 50% off coupon and I wanted to get a Martha Stewart punch. When I got there, the store already had them for 30% off. Argh! I got the punch anyway because it's a 45 minute drive each way to the "big city" and coming back another day would cost me more in gas than what I would save. Plus the coupon was only good for that day.
I think Joanne's let's you use the coupon instead of the sale price, too. Try it online and see if it works. I'm almost positive I've done this before.
There is no JoAnn's store here but I always buy from JoAnn.com and I can always use my higher coupon for a lower sale item. If it's 30% off I can use the 40% off the regular price.
Note that the Joann stores and JoAnn.com are different corporations; not sure if that has anything to do with it.
My Hobby Lobby will not take any other coupons! I wish they would, because everything is about a hour from here or more. I try not to shop unless i have coupons i can use.
Does Joann's have 40% off all papercrafting stuff this week? Seems like I saw someone post a sale. Don't want to go unless there is a sale!

The sales flyer I got in the mail shows 40% off all papercrafting supplies "Trimmers, punches, scissors, albums, stamps, embellishments, Stacks, paper & stickers. Excludes $1 supplies, technology & storage."
I'm guessing it should be the same for all stores, but you might want to call ahead.
Yeah, my Joann's won't let you override the sale, either. Last time I ran into that, I ended up having to use my coupon on a $1 item. Kind of bummed me out!
I was in Toronto recently, and quite excited about my Michaels 50% coupon, but what I really wanted was already on 25% off sale and they would not let me use the coupon off the regular price instead either.

The answer is yes, it is on purpose. They know down to the penny what is a seller and when. They know every minute those coupons are used and the flyer is simply a tracking device. Did you know walmart tracks when and where your purchase if you use plastic? And, they sell that info. I hate it but big brother is retail and they are watching!

Half of the employees at the J's here won't let people use the coupons on dollar items. One J's in the next valley refuses to take M's printed coupons. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the rules their employees follow.

This is the plan. They get you to the store with the 40-50% coupons but put the popular items on sale so that you go ahead and get it anyway for the lower discount. It gets you in the store, when you are likely to buy other items too. I've been known to use my coupons on my Tombow glue quite a bit because everything else is on sale. Also, JoAnns lets you use your coupons on books and magazines but Michael's doesn't so I buy those with coupons too. I love Hobby Lobby the best of the 3 but it's not as convenient to my house as J's and I never seem to be able to get out except on Sunday and Hobby Lobby is closed Sundays. It's a fun treat when I do get to go. I am most bummed that I've been itching for a HL coupon so I can buy a set of Nestabilities I've been wanting but they haven't had a coupon in our paper for weeks!
