Ok... I just need to know this. I have been stamping for almost 10 years now. However, I always find myself COLLECTING more stuffs, than STAMPING!!! I'm always telling myself that I'll have to stamp and make this or that. But all in all, I am piling my room high with stamps, accessories and gadgets that I will EVENTUALLY use. Is there anyone like me? And to those who aren't....how do I become more of a STAMP-A-HOLIC, rather than a COLLECTOR?
You're not the only one. I am a complete gadget-freak and it shows in my stamping area! I have been making more of an effort to use my supplies. Just sitting down while I watch the evening news and making a card or two helps.
You are describing me completely! I get so disgusted w/myself. I want to have a nice stash of cards so I can "RAK" people but I never have any spares. I didnt even get the last two birthday cards done I was supposed to. And then to top it all off- I had to BUY a card instead of making a nice, personal sympathy card because so much time passed. Let me know if you find a self-help group. I have a feeling this isn't the only part of my life where I do this.
I am so with you! I was the exact same way! But now since I signed up as a demo, I have motivation and reason to start making samples and to try new techniques and things! So I'm slowly making my way out of that and into actually using all this fun stuff!! Maybe try some of the challenges on here or start your own gallery! Those may help or motivate you!
ME too!!!!!! My husband had to build shelves in the gararge because I have out grown my cabinet in my stamp room. This bad because we have not even lived in our house for one year and I already out grew a stamp room that was custom designed 10 months ago! Someday I am really going to be a stamping fool! I try and make time to use the stuff but it never seems to come together...oh maybe I should be stamping now instead of doing this. Maybe I need a time management class. I don't know what I need!
I am definitely a collector! It got worse when I discovered scrapbooking. I've been trying to spend a least an hour each night creating something but I usually end up trying to sort and organize everything.... and trying to remember where I put something.....finding things I bought long ago and forgot about...... I need to start USING things!

Oh my heck...you just described me to a 't'! I am the ultimate collector...my problem is that I find something so cool that I don't want to use it because then I won't have it anymore! I know...crazy!!! I need therapy!
I was like that for a while too. I think the solution is that you just have to *force* yourself to sit down and make something. I sit down a couple nights a week and make 2 or 3 of the same card while watching CSI or Law & Order. That way at least I'm doing something with my stuff rather than watching it collect dust!! hehe
Oh geez...I'm like that, too! I ended up with all colors of card stock, full set of stamp pads, set of 48 markers, and lots of other things just so that once I DID finally sit down to stamp, there would be no reason to be saying to myself, "Oh shoot...if only I had such and such..." Aye yi yi.... (LOL - I've never written that saying before - looks kinda funny!).
This is definitely me! Especially the part about not using things because then I won't have them anymore! I think what I'm going to start doing is when I make a card I'll make another one just like it and then keep it for myself! I don't have this problem with scrapbooking supplies so much because those I get to keep.
Before I got into stamping and scrapbooking, I use to spend a lot of money on clothes. I swear I was the same way then, I would keep buying and buying even though there were things in my closet I'd hardly worn! I think I have a hoarding mentality, I always buy things like shampoo and makeup long before they run out, like I'm paranoid of running out of something. I need help.
OF COURSE there are others out there just like you - it's a cult like hobby that just sucks you in!!
I can't stand to let a good sale go by or a let a coupon go to waste so I end up buying something!
I have a lot of stuff that I collected over the years.
Oddly enough, money is tight now so I can't buy much but now I have a stock pile of stuff to use!
I think part of it is because I am on here all the time!!! This place is just as addicting as stamping is. Sometimes even more! I guess it's just fun to know that I can come here, and chit chat with my stampin' sisters... I better start on the project I was hoping to finish today.

There's actually a name for our sickness, I've seen it documented in all our scientific journals, such as CK, Paper Kuts, Memory Makers and Paper Crafts. Plus, I hang out with scientists and doctors all the time, and they told me it's a real condition. I even saw some DNA to prove that this is genetic.
Our sickness is a condition called "hoarding." There is nothing to be ashamed of--it's actually quite common. Please ignore any stigmatism that may be associated with this disease. It's ALLLLLLLL good!

*ME ME ME*
I think I collect double time
stamp part time and sit behind the comp at all other times...
The only stamper gone collector I know that is worse than me is my mom. She buys nearly weekly and make 1 or less cards a month.
I'm a collector as well. I'll probably be moving this summer and I really need to downsize. But I look at my stuff and immediately feel overwhelmed. What's a stamper to do???
I am such a COLLECTOR it seems - More stuff than I can ever use probably! Or at least more than I will have time to use! Stamping, Scrapbooking, and other crafts fill a whole room! At least I know about where everything is!
I am more motivated lately but it is hard ~ I would say I still buy more than I will ever use but I NEED to have it all! ;)

Yep...I found something that's working this month. I put myself on a "no-buy" challenge! It's really helping so far!!!
OH I SO NEED to do that! So how long are you on the "no buy" challenge?? I have already purchased $150 and will probably be placing another order to help out my friend so she can make her min. How do you resist?! Shelley
OH I have been trying to participate in the challenges so that is helping me to use more stuff but I need to really challenge myself more!

One cure to building my cards supply is that I never make just one of my card layouts. I always make two at a time! That way I have one I can use later!
I also find my self going in spurts! Sometimes I feel like the obsessive compulsive stamp collector and other times i will stamp days in a row! I will say it really helps to be able to just leave it all sit out so I can just jump in any time and not have to worry about cleaning up! But I just love stamping!!!

I went through that too! I am finding that if I just pull out a few sets and use them that I am stamping way more!!! And not feeling so overwhelmed about what to use! HTH!
I am guilty of being a collector and hoarder also.. but coming here has helped, well, somewhat,, LOL,, and I am not telling what I have bought lately because of coming here. I am using the stuff I bought though. That is a start. The challenges here have helped me think outside the box more and all of you give me inspiration to do cards. I am using my paper and before I hated to cause I didnt want to use it up. Now I am thinking of maybe selling cards. That is really bad as I have a motive, I CAN buy more stuff and not feel so guilty!!! LOL,,, it is fun and there are worse vices,, I dont think they have proven that stamping is endangering your health.
I do have the "hoarding" gene and hoard other things as well - material, magazines, canned goods..
Oh my gosh,,, my name is Sherlie and I am a hoarder!! Is that the first step!

I can relate to every post so far - I've taken my collecting to a whole new level, and have to make two of each card I make because I can't bear to part with my originals - what's up with that?!? My husband thinks I should just admit that I collect stamps like others collect dolls and figurines, and to some people, maybe my plastic boxes of stamps, and tubs of scrap-paper stacked on the shelf is as pretty to look at. I think I spend as much time organizing my craft space and re-writing my SU! wish list as I do stamping. Ahhh, will it ever end?

Its definately genetic. My mother has it. I have it. And sadly, when I do toy reorganization in my 4 year old daughter's room I've noticed she has it too. And, its not with everything in our lives.
To walk in our houses, you'd say to both my mom and I, "wow, what nice, clean uncluttered houses you keep." But, go to the craft area, and watch out...hoarding galore! Organized, but hoarding. My daughter keeps every piece of paper she touches a writing utensil to.
Mom's on this site too...bestefan if you read this thread...am I lying????

ME TOO!!!!!!:o I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have boxes of stuff I've made and have I mailed any out?!? Nope. I can't bear to part with them. What if the reciever doesn't cherish them and oh and ah over them? No way, I'm not taking a chance.

I'm not so sure it's genetic My mother has the collecting problem, but I totally don't. I never buy anything new unless I need it for something specific, or I've used all my other stamp sets at least ten times for various projects. I think our differences are due to budget allowances, and also she has five kids (I'm the only one out of the house so far), and I don't have any yet. I have way more time!!

OMG. You are certainly not the only one. When someone says Target or Michael's, I'm there. I need to get whatever they have. I love ordering stamps. You never know when you are going to need a certain one. I call myself a COLLECTOR. If I didn't have to work, I might be more of a STAMPER, but it's hard to keep up after a long day at the office. I join swaps to force me to use stamps and get creativity flowing. I love doing them.

Yes, Yes, YES!! This is me, too! I collect (and collect!) stamping and scrapping stuff!! I have been so ashamed and embarrassed lately at all the stuff I have collected. As a matter of fact, I feel so bad about it, I now hide new purchases so the DH doesn't see them!! My DH comes into my stamping room and he just shakes his head....(AND you should see his expression when I say I need something...though I'm not sure why it bothers him...)!
It's really quite alarming to me as I sit here and look around....I have an entire room stuffed full of stamps (I own 76 SU sets, 23 Hero Arts Sets, and approx 800 other misc stamps), pens/markers, papers & cardstocks, pkgs of envelopes/cards, inks, loads of stamping & scrapping magazines, scrapbook albums (all sizes), paper cutters, scissors, stickers, glues, tapes, microbeads, chalks, punches, decorative edge scissors, ribbons/yarns/strings, embossing powders, colored wires, 3 Xyron machines (different sizes), 2 heat guns, Sew-Crafty mini sewing machine, The Melting Pot, embellishments, painting supplies/paints (to do Donna Dewberry type painting on my cards), Quickutz die-cut system + several dozens of dies, Pearl Ex, H2O's, and boxes of other stuff that I can't even remember what's in them!
Is that enough to drive you nuts?? I have tried to take stock of all I have so that maybe I'll be encouraged to stop buying for now AND I have every intention of using EVERYTHING and will NEVER buy another pre-made card for anything!!
I apologize to all who is reading this, and am sorry for rambling on, but after reading these posts, I just couldn't stop looking around the room here, and maybe I am starting to see where the DH is coming from. So.....all I can say is: HELP me! Sign me up for that 12-stop program for hoarders, too, AND put me at the top of the list!!!
By the way, did someone say there is a sale at A.C. Moore's?? And do I have a coupon??
Am I pathetic or what???

Ok this is me too and I know I have a problem but it could be worse. I tell my husband I do not have any bad habits so leave me alone. I could be drinking, smoking, etc but instead I choose to have a scrap and stamp habit!!!
ooh ooh! add me to the list! I actually only started stamping yesterday... but I have all kinds of stuff, a crimper, eyelet tool & eyelets, punches, stamps, inks, special scissors... oh my... and one extremely ugly scrapbook page completed... The cardstock I bought isn't very good, and I'm likely not going to stamp again until I order some of that nice SU cardstock!

I have TONS of stuff that I have collected too! Most of mine is scrapbook stuff. I started scrappin' first, then found SU! I am so excited about become a demo, all I have done lately is make lists of more stuff to buy!?!? I need help! Where is Stampin & Scrappin AA Classes?? lol
