A friend of mine sent me a link to a closed auction on Ebay. Two handmade scrapbook pages sold for about $750, with more than 50 bids!! The pages were beyond fantastic... they were amazing! BUT... oh my gosh..... how can that be?????
My DH just said I should do this. I told him I couldn't make pages like that without lots more equipment and tons more talent, and he said, "You should try!" Wow, I don't know if it's faith in me or greed that motivated him to say that, but I sure appreciate it! (Giggle!)
Beautiful pages and looks like a lot of work but $740.00 for two pages my husband would have my head. I have seen this woman's work before and I think another two page layout of hers went for something like $350.00 or so. Wow.

according the link, buyer has already made payment. Wow - I'd like to have that $760 to spend on craft supplies. Wonder if buyer is rich beyond belief or........
I think I'll go check my paypal account to see if I've been invaded by an unauthorized person.

I saw this too! If you look at her completed items, she's sold some for $135 also! I don't know that I would pay that much! Her pages are gorgeous, but that's too much.
That was from canada so not sure what the exchange rate is? Still a lot of money. Is it still $760.00 U.S.?
lol... $760 in canada does NOT translate to a good price in the US.. it's still about $700 US. our dollar isn't THAT bad.
i don't believe this.. must be some sort of scam.. the seller has no other items for sale.. something fishy is going on here.. like even if you were a millionaire, you still wouldn't spend almost a grand on a layout.. very suspicious.. oh well.

Thanks for posting the link. A friend sent it to me, and I was about to faint when I saw that! More power to her, but can you even imagine how matter how fat your checkbook was paying that? For Easter, on top of it!!!!!!!! And those would be two pages in your scrapbook. Seems like a big burden for the rest of your book to live up to!
I think it was a celebrity. Brittany Spears, Angelina Jolie, or how about Katie Holmes.
Ohmigosh - I was thinking this exact same thing! Some movie star paid that price! BUT, when you think about it, there has to be at least TWO movie-star wallets bidding on it for it to get that big! One to place the bid and one to keep jacking the price to that high level! YIKES!
While I do think it's a crazy amount to pay - I think the pages are GORGEOUS and deserve a hefty price tag - just not that much!!! (and the other ones that went for 150 and up are gorgeous too - I WISH I could make pages like that - 'specially as I'd never buy them!! Imagine how much a whole book would cost????? )
I was thinking about how I could never put my poorly-shot pics on a page like that, nor write in my crappy handwriting on the journaling blocks! The $760 price tag becomes even greater with the professional photographer's fees and hiring an artisan calligrapher to do my journaling! Oh, and not just any old phrases could go on this page; I'd have to hire a real writer, maybe Kurt Vonnegut or Leonard Cohen or someone, to compose my journaling.

I don't think these pages actually end up in a scrapbook. They've gotta be framed and used more like "artwork" on the wall instead of hidden away. I still don't understand that amount, that really is a lot unless it was for a "cause" or something, but reading the auction it sure didn't appear that way!
The pages were beautiful. I would never pay that much for 2 pages. I investigated further and here is her About Me site on Ebay. It shows some more layouts that she has done(with her daughter). They are absolutely beautiful too. http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ggiebearscraps
OK, so I definitely would not have paid $700 for those pages. Truth be told, I wouldn't have paid $7.00. Probably not even $0.70. I know a lot of work went into them and they are really cute, but they're totally not my style --way too busy.
Having said that, I've seen modern paintings hanging on walls in museums valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars that I wouldn't hang in my home it you paid me. (OK, maybe if you paid me their supposed worth I would hang them, but I'd close my eyes every time I'd walk by.) My point is, scrapping is an art form and this lady is an artist. She also obviously has a following. Maybe the people who are buying her pages don't look at them the same way we do -- maybe they actually value them as art!
Personally I think it's absolutely fantastic that at least one of us is getting paid a decent amount to craft. I don't know how long it took her to put together those pages or how much she spent on the materials, but if you break down the price on a per-hour baiss, subtracting the cost of materials, she is still making a lot less per hour than a lot of other people, like the celebrities we're speculating about. We shoudl celebrate the fact that there is someone out there who appreciated the hard work and is willing to pay for it.
WOW! Beautiful pages and the seller deserves every penny, but wowzers! $700+ That's all I can say is WOW!
My DH would have a coronary if I spent that much on 2 pages!!
WOW I just checked it out and the person who bought this layout has spent close to 1000.00 in the last few days on scrapbook pages. It has got to be a celebrity or somebody who has stolen someones credit card. That is crazy. I have to say I had been watching this auction for days. I never imagined it would get that high. I wonder who the other person was. I think I would make another one and sell it to them. I emailed the lady who made the pages and asked how long something like that takes her. I also congradulated her on her sale. Now we should all go tear some paper and make $$$$.
I showed this to my husband and he told me to get down to my room to pump out some scrapbook pages. Yeah right...I'll stick with cards. The pages are pretty amazing, but way too busy for my taste. I haven't done much scrap booking for my kids, but when I do get around to it, when I'm not making cards, I'd much rather their scrapbooks be made by me, not a stranger. That way there's a whole lot 'o lovin' from me to my kids. I agree with earlier posters...the bidder must be some celeb...they pay everyone to do pretty much whatever they want 'em to.
All I can say is WOW!!! I sure wish I had her talent. I think I want to redo some pages. Somehow my squares and rectangles with ribbon and dodads don't look so good.
