I just finished my 22nd Xmas card, and have glitter everywhere! Is there a way to corral this so I can just dump it back in the jar? An inexpensive way I mean! Also, I love the look of paper pierced cards that are displayed in the gallery-do you make you own pattern before you pierce? I bought a template from Paper Wishes, but the darn holes are too small, and too close together! Do you use a special tool? Thanx for any help!
Cheapest (and very effective!) way of gathering up glitter I know of is plain old scrap paper! If you put a piece under your project before you sprinkle you can just lift it up, pinch a little valley into it and slide the excess glitter back in the jar.
Piercing - I use a map pin and either go freehand or use plastic canvas for straight lines and circles (I have a circular one for that - I guess they were intended for coaster projects or something).
I've seen where they put their glitter in a small Glad Ware container, just thump the glitter directly over the container and put the lid back on...DONE!
I bought a piece of plastic canvas to use as a guide for paper piercing. One piece was less than a dollar, and I was able to cut it into 4 pieces that are slightly larger than a card front, so I had one for me and some to share with friends! The holes are a little large, but I've found that if I keep my piercing tool to the same corner of each square, they come out even.
Same again on the plastic canvas for piercing. But also sometimes I stamp a flourish or simple image on thin scrap paper, lay it over the the card and use that as a template for free-hand piercing.
Like Joanne I use scrap paper for glitter - but because of the high static, you'll always lose a bit.
I had a big mess on my table, floor in my hair. in bathromm sink!!! w. glitter every where:mad:. I couldn't find a good glue that it wouldn't fall of after drying. NO MORE GLIITER MESS for me. The big pieces just didn't stay on. Stickles aren't that expensive. It's not that messy. I store mine upside down. I keep a straight pin by it case the nozzle does get clogged. No all colors plug up, it's random on which colors do & don't. I have goen thru several crystal,Diamond, & Star dust ones:mrgreen:. I like the Icle one for my snow digi's.
Glitter CAN'T NOT go on cards to Iraq. :(If any comes off the card onto their uniform, the enemies night vision glasses will pick it up on them.

I actually store my glitter in a plastic container, like a PP mentioned- gladware or something similar. That way you can open the lid, dunk your item in to be glittered, shake of excess into the container. Then put the lid on and not have to worry about gathering it up. Super easy!

I tried using a tray from Stampin Up and one that was a gift from a craft store, I had a problem with static on both of them so I went back to my old way of using paper just like Joanne/Anglenorth explained...works great, nice price too!
If you have an Archiver's near you they have some nice template patterns for piercing your cards and they also sell the piercer. Already mentioned is Stampin Up's mat pack which is great for straight lines and corners and marking for placement of embellishments.
Before I switched to my current method to fight static I used baby powder in my tray, on my table or even my card. Kinda messing but it cleans up well. What I do now is use SU! clear stamp boxes, leave the glitter in there all the time. So I just add the glue where I want it place my card in the box close the lid and shake baby shake. Then open shake off excess close the box and done no mess! HTH! :-D

I still have one tray and I'll try the powder...I did try the embossing bag thinking it would help but it really did no good, it just might be the plastic on this cheaper one...I put the SU tray in a raffle basket for a fund rasier so it's long gone.
My sister in law used a similar idea for embossing powders that you use for glitter but her case was probably dollar store kitchen containers...LOL - you know the stuff that's made in China and probably not safe for food products! Anyway, it worked well for her, great idea for glitter too!
I also have a static problem on my SU trays - didn't think about baby powder or maybe dryer sheets might work. I now use a separate gladware container for each colour of glitter.
Thanx for all the suggestions! I'm heading to the $1 store today! That was a great idea about stamping an image and then freehand the piercing! I also looked into the SU! template, and T Holtz ruler-I am going to use all of these great tips!
