Default Trying to figure out foam stamping...

I got a card from a swap, and I don't know who made it. The swapper used a square of what appears to be thin foam. However, what I dont' get is how it's made an indentation on the foam. It looks just like paper clay would, except, of course it's not hard because it's foam. Does anyone know how to do this technique? Is it a special type of foam, or would the normal type from a craft store work? Also, how did the person make the indentations on the foam?

Thanks for your help!

hmmm, like a stamp in the foam? You can heat regular fun foam with your gun and then stamp in it while it's still hot and will leave the imprint of the stamp. then you can cut it out and use it as an embellie - is that what it is?

I agree with Mary. Sounds like the swapper heated a piece of fun foam (regular craft foam you find in the kiddie craft section of the local craft store) with her heat gun to get it really soft, and then stamped on it with one of her stamps to make the impression in the foam. Very easy and fun to do!

Smile My Two-cents

When you do this-I have heard you should ink-up your stamp with clear versa mark so your stamp does not stick to the foam. Also do it in an area that is vented, some plastics and foam fumes smell yuky!

Thanks everyone-- I was randomly looking at the Technique challenges last night and found how to do it. The card I have, though, is slightly different. She must have used markers to color the stamp first (it's SU simple somethings, the flower stamp) and then stamped it because the indentation is there, but it's also very pretty with the colors she used. I'll have to try that and see if it works.

Default here are my instructions

Here's a link to a card which my friend made with fun foam:
Little square fun foam card

And, like I posted there, this is how she did it:
--->Heat piece of fun foam with a heat gun slightly and *immediately* press a rubber stamp into the fun foam. (You could slam the stamp down hard and fast. )
She then sponged and brayered on some colours from an ink pad (dye ink). She layered them on top of a paint chip.

I haven't tried inking the stamp first...sounds interesting!
