Have any of you Canadian demos noticed that the French version of Fancy Flexible Phrases doesn't quite match up with the English version? I have both and am having trouble translating some of the stamps. I think maybe they're idiomatic. Any help out there?
I also think some of the translations are off - like they were translated by some silly American who doesn't really know French. Like "souris" is supposed to be "smile", I think. But isn't "souris" actually "mouse"? Or is my French waaaay off?
I'd really appreciate any help you can offer! I'm holding off mounting this set until I'm sure of the translations.
um i dont think you can order that one any more, wasnt that the winter mini so i cant check if they are right.
anyhoo, i've been wanting to get some french sets but after comparing the english and french sets i find they arent quite right and my french canadian dh aggrees, so i wont be ordering any.
i would like to know how SU is getting these translated.
a lot of expressions we have in english said in french dont quite have the same meaning. i cant really explain.

Thanks!!!!
You're right... "souris" is the french word for mouse...but it is also the imperative conjugation for the verb "sourire" (to smile). So it is basically a command..."smile!"

Ahhhhh! That makes sense, then. I recently earned my bachelor degree in French hence the desire to acquire some of the French SU! sets. But I'm kind of disappointed in the translations. I figure they must be pretty bad if *I* can figure out they're wrong! LOL! So far, I have three sets in French - Heartfelt Thanks, Warmest Regards (hostess) and now the Fancy Flexible Phrases. The other two seem to be done pretty well...but the FFP - not so much.
Anyone else out there have any helpful suggestions??

Do you perhaps have a link to this past French-Canadian Winter Mini catalogue? I receive the English catty from my Demo...forgot to check out the French catty this time.
And yes and thanks to what al_silver said.
Oh, and yes, many phrases are idiomatic and don't work when translated directly.
It's been waaaaay too many years since high school French class. But Alta Vista Babelfish has a free translation device on the internet. I tried each of the words/phrases. Some of them still do not make sense.
