Default Trading NON-cards at convention

What is the latest and greatest thing to look for when trading at convention that is not "paper" related. I know about dominos, bobble magnets and polyshrink. I was looking for something different, something out of the ordinary to create, but not so complicated that I'll only want to make 20, KWIM? No CD pins for me either.

So, for trading non-card items the items are usually the same for the same, right? Like a domino for a domino, a 6x6 for a 6x6, etc. But, what if I make something like clay magnets in a neat package and no one has clay magnets?

I hope this isn't a lame question, but I'm really confused about the non-card trading thing.

I usually trade for anything, but some people only want to trade specifically for what they made. HTH!

Default non-CF trades at convention

The year my UL traded for me, she was able to trade any non-paper item for another non-paper item. That is, a domino for a post-it not holder, or a bobble magnet for a RSVP pen, etc. I think most like to trade for what they made (domino for domino, polyshrink for polyshrink) but in the heat of the moment (and 7000 demos running around swapping) you're bound to get caught up in the moment and just trade.

I'm still looking for other non-paper ideas besides for dominos and polyshrink.

Default A bobble magnet

I'm sure there's another name for it, but it's one of those clear flat marbles you use in dried flower arrangements. You simply stamp a small image (SAB "A Little Love" works great) onto CS and then punch it out wiht a small circle punch, adhere to back of flat marble and attach a magnet to.

I'm bringing magnets and domino pendants to trade, and I am willing to trade for any 3-D items! I'm just looking for as many great ideas as I can find...this is my first convention, but from what I hear, most people are glad to trade. I'm so excited, and counting down the days!!

Default domino pendant question

When drilling a hole i dominos, what size drill bit is best?
Also, is it best to drill before decorating the domino, or after?

Default drilling dominos and adhering name

If you are making smaller objects to trade and can't fit your name on them, the best thing to do is (if it's a pin) to attach it to your buisness card. If you have a magnet that can't be attached, simply put it in one of those tiny ziploc bags you find in the jewelry section at craft stores. Slip your magnet AND buisness card inside.

It is sometimes hard to get the recipes on items, you can attach it to the backs of the cards. Above all you want to make sure your email address is at least noted somewhere so others can contact you for the "how tos" when they're ready to case.

For drilling dominos: You need to get a SPECIAL drill bit used for glass and tile. They have pointy heads on them like arrows. I would recommend drillling BEFORE you embellish that way you can place your stamp accordingling so the image misses the hole.

Default dominos

Thank you Melanie. That's just what I needed to know.

Just curious.....Has anyone used a dremel tool to drill holes?
Wonder if that would work?

Default dremmel for dominos

Never used a dremmel but most things are experimental. Maybe do a search online first for "Drilling on tile with dremmel". I'd hate for you to break your bit, I'm not sure the sell peices separately to replace them.

Default drilling

Yup! You can get dremel bits seperately.
I'll check my set and see if there is a tile bit.
Thanks for the info!

I just tried it and it worked! I think my dominos are made of plastic anyway.

Thanks for the info!
