I understand that Versamark creates a watermark effect when stamped on paper, but other than that, what is the true difference between Top Boss tinted pads and the Versamark pad? If I already have the Versamark, is there a need for the Top Boss?
Does the Top Boss pad perhaps hold embossing powder better or something, because I seem to emboss just fine with Versamark.
The only benefit I've found over VersaMark is that you can see the Top Boss ink better on white or vanilla paper, but don't use it with clear EP unless you want the color of the embossing ink to be a permanent part of your design! :o

I found that the versamark stays wetter longer....could it be in my head?! Maybe! But I am pretty sure that it does! It is also more versatile....using it with PearlEx, pastels, watermark, etc.
I used the Top Boss pad before I "discovered" VersaMark. I definitely prefer the VM pad. I see no need to buy the TB pad if you already have the VM. HTH!
I have both and have used both. Personally I prefer the Versamark pad. I too think it stays wetter longer. Plus, I am always reinking my Top Boss pad. It seems to dry out faster than my Versamark.
Just recently decided to try my Top Boss pad again. Reinked it and started to stamp and emboss. From now on, I will stick with Versamark. I get much finer detail with the Versamark. Even with a freshly reinked pad, the Top Boss dryed out faster than Versamark.
I agree with everyone so far....versamark is my preferred pad, as well. Top Boss was the only thing available for clear embossing for so many years; I suspect they never bothered to improve their product because they didn't see a need. VersaMark is like a high-end re-do of an old product - why buy the old when the new is markedly superior?
I'm hoping some mad scientist out there is coming up with more wonderful products like VersaMark ... I love new "toys"!

If you're only going to have one, VersaMark is definitely the way to go. However, I've fallen OUT of love with my VersaMark pad because of the sticky residue it leaves on my stamps. So when I'm just doing regular embossing I use Top Boss. I find it works just fine.

What is an easy and quick way to clean that sticky residue off of stamps?
I have heard that there is a special cleaner for Versamark, but I have not tried it. Has anyone else?
Also, did you know that you can use your Versamark pad to emboss in any color with your classic pad. I just found out from my demo a while ago. If you stamp in your versamark and then your color of choice, you can emboss it with clear powder and you will get your color! I thought that was a pretty nifty trick! Just thought I would share...

Got to go try that.
I also prefer my VM.

I beleive that the residue that the Versa Mark leaves on your stamps is actually supposed to be good for them.
I thought I remember a long time ago reading that VM will help seal the rubber to keep them flexible, which is a great thing after stamping with bleach or cleaning them with alchol after using StazOn.
So I see it as a positive.
BTW--Margaret64 you stamp with the VM then clean the stamp and stamp again in color then add the ep and heat.
Wow - I never thought about using Versamark to emboss. I am still a newbie to stamping. I thought I would need a Top Boss pad. Hmmm... Now I don't have to buy a separate pad, when I get my embossing powder tomorrow!
I have to agree with everyone in saing VM is the way to go. My Top Boss sits in my drawer now that I have the VM pad. Interesting that others find the TB dries out quickly. I thought it was just me--or that I wasn't closing the cover tightly.
Is it just me, or have others found Top Boss can be goopy at times? I prefer Versamark. It seems "dryer" but stays "wetter" longer if that makes sense. I guess it's the lack of extra ink that I'm talking about. I love VM
For those of you asking about cleaning versamark off your stamps, the Stazon Brand Cleaner does a wonderful job of getting that sticky ink off stamps. And it's great on Basic Black (even old stains!) and of course Stazon. It runs between $3 and $4 and is one of the stamping items I never want to be without again!

so true. Just make sure you are using it in a well vented area. A friend and I were doing xmas ornaments last year and we got quite a buzz from the stazon and the cleaner. LOL
I absolutely LOVE VM, but I do remember a little tidbit about Top Boss ink.....You can use it with the Just Journaling stamp sets for scrapbooking - it will leave an image for writing, but it will disappear. VersaMark, on the other hand, will not disappear (since it leaves a permanent watermark).

Yeah, I had heard that too. Sooo wrong, it's definitely a myth. I have one _favourite_ stamp that I used to use with VersaMark all the time and I didn't clean. The VersaMark has eaten into the rubber and the stamp has an unpleasant stickiness. My upline is fanatic about cleaning off the VM. So I almost never use VersaMark anymore -- with SU's coordinated paper and inks it's easy to just stamp the card stock with the matching colour. Easy cleanup, no nasty VM goop.
