DH and I have "our money" that gets budgeted out, and one of the budget categories is "my money." We both get a set amount of money each month to spend on whatever we want, whenever we want. That has been our solution, and it works really well.

What a cute story! My DH has a good idea of my investment... he showed me a newspaper clipping a few years ago, about the 'newest hobby' for women. It stated the average scrapbooker has $1800 in tools and supplies. DH chuckled and said something like 'you have that much just hanging on the door.'

When I made my first card six/seven months ago, DH told a friend that it only cost $400.00. He doesn't really say much, teases me sometimes. When I say I "need" something, I get "you need more stuff"!! Sincerely, he is totally supportive of my hobbies and appreciates what I create. As long as he gets fed regularly, he's happy

My hubby has never asked one question and I know why! He's an avid fisherman and hunter and I've always been very supportive and let him get whatever he wants. It paid off big-time for me when I finally got a hobby! He's glad I'm doing it and even has me scrapbooking his fishing and hunting pictures. Sweet!

This story is great. While my DH does not care what I spend on my stamps, scrapbooking or quilting, my guess is he has no idea how much stuff is truly in there!!!!!!

My demo just told me that in the past three years since she has been keeping records, I have spent over $1000 just with her! I then told her NOT to tell me the exact amount and that I never wanted to know it EVER! LOL! My husband has spent over $25,000 building a full-sized airplane, he needs another $20,000 to finish it (engine and avionics.) But then, it will be worth $100,000 when it is finished, so I am not sure that is the same as my stamping and scrapbooking supplies after all?

DH is very supportive of my hobby, but his estimated worth of my stuff is higher than my estimate... I'm sure one of these days I'll sit down and figure it out and see that he's closer than I am!!!

I wish I could get away with saying I only have about $100 worth of stuff I'm lucky though, that hubby don't complain (too much) when I get the itch to go looking at my usual crack stores or when I want to submit a new SU order.

He's got a pretty good idea about the total worth of stuff I've got, because he's the one earning the money and writing the checks. To my defense I'm pretty good at hunting out the good deals whether things are on sale, clearance or from $1 bins (I love, love Michaels $1 bins).

Unfortunately my hubby has an "idea" of what all my goodies would add up to. (And he helped install cabinets to enclose it all)
He keeps saying that we need to add my craft stuff to our homeowner's policy but I'm afraid that our premium will go up:rolleyes:

My husband and son both race dirt bikes. When UPS comes and my son (16 yrs.) brings the box to my craftroom, he always has a remark about "another order", blah blah, blah. I just smile and tell him that my hobby is less than his and dads. Then he leaves notes before he goes to school about....Dad and I need new tires for the race this weekend. Call # and get our tires changed please. $500 for 4 new tires and changing them out. Mind you........they race once a month and get new tires for EVERY race! Plus, track fees and race fees for race day. Not to mention that it costs $25 per person per day to get onto the track.......they go every Sat/Sun. $100 each weekend. I could go on and on...........I wish they golfed instead!

One time my Dh asked how much a pack of cardstock costs. I said...mmm, like $5 bucks. He said, well I was just in your craftroom and I counted that you have 171 unopened packs of cardstock in the closet. Then he said........Not to mention the fact that I started to count the stamp sets and then I glanced and saw that they all had stickers with the price on them. I got nervous........then I just walked towards the garage and said.....Um, do you want to talk about what sits behind this door? Conversation ended.

Hehehehe I should take the time to add it all up sometime... my ink caddy is full, i have a refill in every color, abut 60 stamp sets, paper... and oh so much more.. On the upside- he can't say a word about what I spend- as his hobby is gaming online, his pc that he just built cost OMG $$$ but he's also replaced his cellphone, bought tools (which he 'loses' at the jobsite repeatedly) and his latest toy-- the Wii... He stays pretty quiet about my purchases... lol

I'm sure I passed the $100 mark well over a decade ago!! Fortunately, I have a very supportive husband who has some weird notion that keeping creative helps the mind from decaying in old age. Hey, it works for me!!!

Default No drinks necessary in my house...

My DH is a semi-professional photographer, and at times his camera equipment costs more than a month's rent/mortgage! He doesn't do this to make his living, but it's a "strong" interest. He's shot Indy, F-1, Kart, and the Pack, also the Olympics.
Since he shops with me, and I have shopped with him, we both know what the other's stuff can cost. It's also handy at those times when you need a gift idea. He knows what EP, UTEE, and lots of stamp supplies are for, and I'm lucky enough to have my own photographer to shoot magazine work for me.
I'd have to say I prefer shopping for ME! LOL.....Hugs, Andi

Talking

This really IS hilarious...I figure their ignorance is bliss.... but my husband has a Harley with all the bells and whistles, AND the tools to work on it, AND clothes to ride in... AND, well... you get the picture. There is NO way I could even come close to spending on my hobby what he has spent on his, but it would sure be great fun to try!!! And if I stay on SCS long enough, it could happen!! A big thanks to all you enablers out there

Funny how our crafting supplies seem to be an issue with some husbands. What about all those toys the boys have? Can we say bass boat, fishing and hunting gear, snowmobiles...

Why do you think I unmounted all my wood stamps? LOL! The less room my craft stuff takes up, the better. Gives the illusion that I really don't have that much!

What is scary is that nine years ago when I went to my first SU party, I spent $150...one can only guess how much stuff I've bought in close to a decade later....

Oh, and I'm with Mel - I recently just spent $60 in a mono adhesive share - so that made me laugh that she has $100 in adhesive alone.

Lets see - I have over 100 stamp sets not to mention the volume of paper, ink, etc. I really don't think I want to know how much I have! Although it is an 8 year collection.

If he only knew!!! I tell my best friend all the time, that if I die, she must sell my stuff. Being a stamper herself, she has a true appreciation for what is in my stamp room and the value! I could probably pay for 1 year of college for my son in the event of my demise!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

You girls crack me up! I spent $100 on my first order 10 years ago! I don't even want to go there. I have been a hobby demo (mostly) for 10 years plus I come to SCS! Does that give you a clue? Well over $10,000! Did I just say that? Yikes!

My dh is always saying I have too much sewing stuff, too much painting stuff, too much stamping stuff....blah,blah,blah.... I pay for all of it myself, so he can't really complain too much. We went to a friend's house once and she was showing me her longaberger basket collection. When we got home, hubby says "Wow, her husband must not know that those baskets must cost at least $20. each." Ha.....Yeah, $20 that's right. I knew then that he doesn't have a clue how much my stuff adds up to.

I've always been up front with my DH about my buys...but I don't think he knew how much stamping stuff I have collected in seven years until I told him that if I die, he needs to sell my stamps and go to the Riviera on the proceeds!
