bump, I'm sorry . Please ignore this. I don't know about you, but there are 11 pages on this topic now and only nine are showing up. I have found that one way to view the recent pages is to enter some text.

Lots of people enter the word bump when they have started a post and want to draw attention to it. Whenever text is entered it automatically brings that topic to the top of the list. You'll see this a lot on the buy/sell/ trade posts.

Craft pads contain a little different ingredients. I think they are composed of waterbased acrylic paint. I use my PIR only on pads that are clearly marked dye or pigment ink and watercolor markers. So sorry to hear that it ruined your craft pad.

I was a super thrifty gal.................. i was saving my rubber and everything. They dont stick well. AT ALL! You have to use Mono on them any way. TIME IS MONEY TOO!! I dont have all day to worry about half the stuff thats been spoken of. Quality when giving a handmade Item is important............ SU ribbon is a great price......... our paper is a great price. I have gotten cards that have taken a lot of effort but really fell apart and didn't do the artist justice because of the low quality of the paper of ink. IT DOES SHOW! I am a pretty frugal gal....... I try to use up what I have and save $$$ by not overspending. You can bargin yourself into a financial hole!

Default photo tabs

I have a friend where I get double sided tape in a huge roll - 72 yards for only $10. I've used this type of tape for years on my cards (not for scrapbooking) and have saved a bundle. If you compare it to the little photo tabs that equal about 7 yards for $4 or so if it a HUGE savings. True, you have to cut the lengths yourself but the upside is that you can cut a length to ANY size.

I have gone through about 10 rolls in the past few years and i love it.

I watched the gal who developed this, demo it and she only used the Refesher on dye based inks. Silly me, I haven't ever read the insturctions. I personally won't use it on my pigment pads and that includes SU!'s craft pads. It is just what I comfortable doing.

I have been stamping around 9 years. I think most of us are smart enough to figure out for ourselves where we can cut corners and where we must absolutely have cream of the crop supplies. I for one am happy with watercolor pencils that are not SU, sponges that are not SU, markers that are not SU chalks that are not SU. I do not feel obligated to buy a Coluzzle template for $8 from SU when the same thing is $3.50 with my coupon at Michaels. On the other hand, I prefer SU Glossy cardstock to others at similar prices and I like certain SU colors that I just cannot replicate. I am not a brand type of person. No, I do not carry a Coach purse and I do not have to have Monroe shoes. I am smart enough to pick and choose where I want to put my money and where I think I can cut corners. I also drive a car that is more than 5 years old. It is just simply going to vary from person to person what they will settle for. I tend to be a "good enough" person versus a person who has to have the very best and make sure the labels are showing. I think much of this comes down to simply priorities. I have kids in college and I have to look at that over what kind of white cardstock I am using.

Here is another $ saving tip for the day I learned at stamping group today: You can reuse the cellophane envelopes that your stamping friends send to you. Carefully unseal and very importantly, after removing the stamp, wipe that area with a baby wipe to remove all the invisible censor ink or the card might be read by the machine as already marked and get kicked out.

Also, Perfect Ink Refresher will make your markers last literally years or months longer. Either remove the tip and add a few drops or let it sit in a cup with a bit of PIR overnight to soak it up.

the "missing" pages will not return as being able to be seen or clicked on easily. What happened was they were submitted when the server was going through its upheaval and although they are posted, they did not seem to "register" with the server (Hope that makes sense). The more pages are added on to any threads where this has occurred (not just this one) it will change the ones that are in the "twilight zone" has it has been dubbed by many here.

Hope that makes sense.

Default stamp cheaper

I use my "big" rubbr scraps to make my own shadow stamps. The seaside sketches has good ones. Cut an irregular edge then "nick" it with scissors or a cragt knife adn mount on something sturdy if you don't have any extra wood blocks. I wouldn't use anything but SU! cardstock tho. I also use travel size hairspray misters to put walnut ink and stamp cleaner spray in. They are cheaper than EMPTY travel bottles, you just have to clean out the hair spray. You gals are beginning to make me rethink my boycotting of Walmart.-Vee

I ordered a box of 100 transparencies (like window sheets) from Viking yesterday. By putting in the AL2 code, they came out to $13.88 - - which means a little more than 13 cents each!

The ones without the strip on the side were cheapest - - didn't see any reason for the strip. I can't remember what it said it was for right now.

I love all the ideas shared on here. I will have to try a lot of them.

My favorite money saving tip is to actually give my cards away that I make.Even to those I think will toss them.I used to buy one instead of giving a homemade one b/c I thought the person would not appreciate it as much .So instead of saving money by making one and having fun at the same time ,I bought some and spent more money.

Question EP

Buy EP in bulk with your friends and divide into baby food or spice jars and you can get your EP for about 90% less than buying small jars. Add a silicagel packet from your new shoe box and it stays fresh for years and years!

Where would I find EP in bulk? (a good source, anyway) Thanks for all the great tips too.

Stamp off on scrap paper for lighter ink colors. I tried this on my inks yesterday and found that a lot of the CS and inks I had were simply lighter versions of the darker colors, so I could have passed on buying the light ink colors and still had matches to my CS. So now I have made little 2" color swatches with the first stamping on the front and second stamping on the back and put them on a binder ring for future reference.

Default envelopes

[QUOTE=Stampin Wrose]I also buy the envelopes at office supply stores, but man, they need to be putting more sticky on those things! Geez. I may have to go back to SU! if they don't start making them stickier. I hate it when you lick it and then have to tape it too. I mean, what's the point of saving money when you have to spend it on tape! LOL

I don't lick ANY envelopes. I get the flower, (etc) stickers from the dollar store and seal the pointy edge of the envelope with class. People think it's for them, but it's so I don't have to lick the icky taste of the envelope. lol

Check thrift stores for storage for your supplies. I saw lots of shelving and other containers that would work wonderfully for storage and I found a wooden wall hung spice rack that is perfect for either reinkers or embossing powder. It cost only 50 cents.

Always check the clearance dept. of craft stores, too. I found a 48 count pack of Lyra watercolor crayons for $29 at Hobby Lobby, they are normally in the $60 to $70 range. The set was in perfect condition, too.

These are great ideas! I especially love the idea of saving the rubber foam to use instead of dimensionals. Thanks!

Default tips to save $$$ when stamping

SU ribbon is not only better quality but better price when you figure price per yard. I used to work in a fabric store. Always figure the price per yard. Some really good buys really aren't

My experience with Su is that i get a shipment about three days after ordering. Even though there are a lot of craft stores here, that beats the time I can take to explore each store and find they are out of what I needed.

Too often when I call first, someone doesn't really know what I want or doesn't check the shelf to see if the computer is right.

I am a SU devotee now.

rollerbabe who thanks the staff and other stampers for an outstanding site and tips.

Sorry if this is a repeat because I didn't get a chance to read through all the pages, but I work at an office and save quite a bit of "junk" mail. It's amazing how many large pieces of glossy white, black and other colored card stock can be cut from junk mail, some publications are sent in acetate mailers, I keep all the vellum envelopes because there are large areas that can be used for tags, etc.

Don't read any of the threads in general stamping forums that have a product name in the subject or "I found ... at Michael's" in the subject.

That will save you A LOT of money

Default Save money?!

Great way to save money!? Become a demonstrator! That's what I did. I had a huge wishlist (there are some substitutions you can make, but for the most part, Stampin' Up's quality can't be beat!). I purchased the starter kit and decided to have a few workshops to make my money back.
Pretty soon I realized that I can make money doing something I love. Now I have everything I could want out of the catalog, my hobby pays for itself, AND I now make enough money to pay for WAY more than just stamps!!!

The next best thing to do is host a workshop or join a hostess club!

Catherine
PS...even my husband can tell the difference between Stampin' Up cardstock and non-su!

The drywall tape is actually pretty darn sticky already. It's not as wide as Magis Mesh, but you get sooo much for sooo little and you can color it with your ink pads to match almost anything. Love the idea about the spackling, gonna have try that one.

I save bottlecaps. I hammer them flat and use a circle punch to put paper in the middle. They also look cute with a silk flower behind the cap.

Thumbs up

Ok - a couple more $$$ savers!

Everyone luuuuurves those silk flowers for scrap books and cards.
HOWEVER - there not exactly pocketbook friendly unless you catch them on sale or use a coupon..
my fix?
I buy my flowers on the stem so to speak - then pluck them off and store them in glass containers for a colorful visual. I usually split them with a friend of mine - so we get a nice selection of different colors and styles ... and BTW? - if you purchase them white you can spritz them with dyed water or sponge them to match your project. AND the bonus is you can get some interesting effects you can't acheive with the nice store bought blooms!

"gift" bags from department stores and can "re-made" using card stock stamped and/or decorated then glued over the store logos

and

I haven't tried this yet - but it sounds like a great idea because you can buy the foam sheets at the dollar store in various sizes and colors - but I read that they can be run thru the xyron machines and then cut to size and use in place of "pop dots"

This is a great thread - so many ideas ... I need to sit down with my pen and paper and copy these all down so I don't forget them!
