Default For those of you that store your BG stamps without their cases....

I've been reading some older posts on SCS and have found out that quite a number of people store their BG stamps outside of their cases. I would love to do this (especially since I just bought a bunch of Michael's $1 stamps and I can use the cases to store them), but I'm worried about getting dust on the BG stamps. I don't stamp as much as many of the folks on here. I'm lucky if I get to stamp a few times a month. So, I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with dust and if getting them dusty would affect the stamping quality?

Thanks,
Christine

I havent had that problem. I store them standing straight up in a drawer. If your stamp gets dusty, you could just use your stamp cleaner to clean it up. I have to admit I have a bunch of BG stamps, and hardly ever use them.

I just took mine out of the boxes and stacked them on their sides on a shelf right next to my stamp table. I suppose they might get dust on their sides but the rubber parts are pushed up against the stamp in front of it. Plus dust is not allowed in my house!!

I'm with Katy. Although dust is allowed in my house -- just not in my studio. That is reserved for cat hair. The BG stamps that are mounted are stacked on top of each other. The newer ones are NOT mounted and are in a notebook. HTH

My BG stamps are in a cardboard box that sits on the shelf behind my stamp table - no dust and they are all together.

I store my background stamps in a Sterilite container tht holds CDs. I can fit 10 background stamps, mounted, and placed on their sides. I can close the container and even stack something light on them. I have never had a problem with dust on my stamps.

The CD box has 2 flapped, hinged lid and sells for about $2. A great investment. I got it at walmart and have seen at Target as well. The medium CD holds my backgrounds, the small CD holder ($1.50) stores my grossgrain ribbon from SU.

Just make sure you place the SU sticker that identifies the bkg stamp in the same place on it's side so you can view all at once.

HTH!

Mine are in an under-the-bed rubbermaid container so that works great - no dust - and I have just acquired enough to start "outgrowing" the box so have taken them out of their cases and I love it!

If you want to go un-cased, Wal-Mart sell a Sterilite container for CD/DVD. It has flip-flop lids that cross over each other. They are just ike $1.97.

They will hold alot of BG stamps and keeps the dust out!

I live in Dustworld, USA -- and have my BGs standing on end on open shelves in my stamp room. When I want to use one, I assume it's dusty -- so I brush it off first. No pain, no strain -- it's just automatic, like making coffee in the morning.

I have these great brushes that I get from Lee Valley Tools -- they are very soft, yet clean *very* thoroughly. They are surgical scrub brushes -- very inexpensivie, and have a squillion uses all over the house. I buy them by the dozen every time I order from Lee Valley -- and so should you! ==> www.leevalleytools.com

Honestly the only things I think that can really hurt rubber are sunlight and prolonged pressure in a particular spot. Well I suppose if you cut the stamp that wouldn't do it any good either. ;) Go for it you'll be glad you did.

Thumbs up

I store mine up on a shelf, right above my stamping table. I have them fanned out so I can see them. I love looking at them(Oh, and stamping with them too, LOL). I definetely saves me room in storage. Give it a whirl, you will like it.

Default Thanks!

Thanks everyone.
I am now boxless and all my BG stamps are in the open!!! I love having the empty boxes to put stuff in and I'm going to check out the DVD/CD boxes the next time I'm in Walmart. I'm also going to check out those brushes - those might be the painless way to go.
Thanks again!
Christine

Just bought some at Wal-Mart yesterday and they are FANTASTIC. Each box holds 10 BG stamps, stored on their sides. I used my label maker to label each stamp on it's end - check the pics.

If you have a Big Lots near you they have heavy cardboard boxes with tops (they have a shiny colorful layer on the outside) - they have them in a few different sizes - one of the sizes will fit 6 background stamps perfectly...I have them sitting on the side with the top off so they are easy to get at when I am stamping but if I have to take them somewhere I slap the lid on and go
