I've been thinking of becoming an SU! demo for about three years now. I'd probably be "my own best customer." Is it worth it? Please let me know about your experiences. Thanks in advance!

The fun and friendships that I have had with fellow demos are even better than the discount and other perks!
Being a Demo has been one of the best decisions I have made for myself. My self esteem, worth, confidence and creativity in myself have all improved and grown. in the two years that I have been a demo. I love it! It is a great relief from my family. It is something that is just for me. And none of my family budget goes to my habit. I have made friends with people I never would have before.
HTH and good luck on your decision, Nina

Yes, I couldn't have said it better myself! I also do not put my family's $$$ into my hobby...except for the first 3 months after I joined...but after I established a customer base, and started booking workshops/classes etc., it all fell into place, and my hobby pays for itself - it's GREAT!
Plus, as a demo, I find that I end up trying/buying products that I wouldn't have ever tried as a regular customer, so it's expanded my knowledge/expereince as a paper crafter, as well as built up my ever growing inventory of supplies/accessories.
But make the decison that it best for you Nina! :-D
Best decision I ever made! I'm supporting my habit plus making extra spending cash. I have made incredibly awesome friendships that I otherwise wouldn't have. I knew if it didn't work out I could just drop and keep all my discounted goodies. It's a win-win situation!
I just joined as a hobby demo in Oct. I don't plan to make any money at this, but it sure is nice to get all my goodies at a discount. And I have actually made a few friends just by people seeing my catty. And two potential customers LOL!
It's really rejuvenated my creativity and I'm making all my Christmas cards this year, PLUS a set of notecards for everyone on my list. :-D
The starter kit is worth more than the $200 it costs and there is absolutely ZERO penalty if you decide to never place a single order. You just drop and that is that.
WELL I became a hobby demo figured I would maybe do this for a year and get the stuff I want at a discount well that was 7 years ago. Still a demo
I have only had a handful of workshops. I do a monthly club on the 2nd tuesday it has 6 ladies. I dont have to spend a dime as they cover my minimums I have a win win situation.

I just signed up in September. It's been definitely worth it. I really only expected to get a discount for myself. But I put out a flyer and invited friends and scheduled workshops. Last month I sold $1000 and this month I'm at about $700 with another large order possibly coming in before the weekend is over. So, I've been able to add lots of SU stuff to my collection that has been on my list just because of the money I've made. I'm not adding anything to the family income, but my hobby isn't costing us anymore So, it's been great! I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I just dropped being a hobby demo. I found that the $100 monthly quota just got to be too much since there were other companies I liked to buy from and I wasn't very happy with the latest SU stamp sets..
I love being a SU Demo! I signed up just for the discount and had an occasional stamp camp. Now that I am not working fulltime, I find myself having some workshops and doing scrapbook fairs so that I can make some money doing what I enjoy!
I enjoyed it, but was just losing too much money.
One piece of advice I would have is to get a good idea of how many demos are in your area. Our area is so saturated with demos that I just couldn't build up any kind of customer base.
I love it. i was spending the money with a demo anyway, so it was worth it for me even if i was my only customer. at first i thought i would never do classes or anything, just buy from myself, but then after about a year i was asked to do a class for this person, and then another person, and so on. so now i do one or two a month, but i get all the hostess benefits and free stuff, since im the hostess of my classes. and now i never spend my own money on minimums and i get lots of free stuff. and ive made some nice friends along the way and i really do enjoy my monthly classes. best "job" ive ever had.
It is great to be a demo! I love my discount I am definitely my own best customer, although I have clubs that help pay for my supplies. I have met a bunch of great ladies that I never wouldn't have met without being a demo!
For SU demos, Dec 1st is the pre-order from the Spring/Summer catalog so if you sign up soon you won't miss out!
I'm also a hobby demo, defined as being my own best customer. I have about 5 people who buy something occasionally, so I'm definitely not making any money. But I was spending money with my demo before, now I'm spending it with me. Getting the Stamping Success magazine monthly, having access to the Demo side of SCS, and getting sneak peeks and pre-orders on SU merchandise are all great perks! I really enjoy my hobby-demo-ship!
After reading all the positive things about becoming a demo I was all ready to sign up, but I live in New Zealand & I just read the local brochure and the MONTHLY quota is $600!!
Sure, there's exchange rates & shipping to consider, but holey moley that's NZ$1800 a quarter compared to US$300 & our cost of living is higher over here.
It makes $100/month sound so achievable LOL.
I think I'll go & double check the quota with a local demo:(
