I was labeling mine & I have like 70 from the current catalog & tons that are old hostess sets or retired. Just wondered at what point will I need the 12 step program.
I don't think you can ever have to many sets. Though you may have more than you remember you have and never use some. That is my fear any way. I'm not sure how many I have but I just added three this weekend. I guess I should count them hu?
Well that is the first thing that always comes to mind when I see these pictures of people with selves upon shelves of sets. All I keep thinking is how do they remember what they have.
I'm a blasphmer.
I think there is a such thing as too many stamps. i'm not sure what the number of "too many" is tho. I think that when you purchase a duplicate, you probably have too many stamps. If you stamp 10 hours a day every day of the week, 52 weeks out of the year and never use all of your stamps, you probably have too many. LOL

Never!!!!
I stopped counting mine because it was just too much to do.....I have been a SU demo for 5 years and I've hung on to a few retired sets over the past years just because I bought them and like them so much I couldn't even think of getting rid of them.
I don't even let my DH know exactly how many stamps I have.
He thinks it's only around 1000 or so....he never gets to enter my room for fear he start having a heart attack.

okay I'll come out of my shell here. I have over 300 stamp SETS. Thank God I have them all unmounted and in CD cases or I wouldn't have enough room. I don't think DH has figured out how many I really have or he'd crook.

I've never counted and I'm afraid to! If anyone found out an actual number, I'd probably have to move to a shelter with my stamps! I've taken over the front room (it wasn't used to begin with) and I've requested more room and more shelves! Maybe Santa wil hear my cries for more stampin' room & more time for stampin'!
When I finally think I got all the stamps I need, SU comes up with the mini catalog!!! And of course I have to get some more... Never ending! What I have done is an inventory of all my stamps sets so I don't get any doubles. Santa is bringing me a bookshelf from IKEA for all my stamps. My DH, or should I say Santa, is really good about it! Happy Stamping!
I was just talking to SleepyinSeattle about this today. I am starting to feel like I need to get out before I get further in...and yet I bought more sets off people on SCS today.
Well, all I can think of is NOOOOOO! Whenever I think of parting with a set, I end up finding a use for it. Like the Smile set I got with my demo kit. I thought it was kind of cute at first, but ended up hating it, and never used it. Thought I was going to get rid of it, but now my DD has found it and loves to use it, so now it is getting used!
I would say you could never have too many stamps! I think my DH would differ though!!
Don't get what. My stamps are all mounted on EZ mount. I don't use wood blocks I use acrylic blocks. I didn't mean that to sound snotty.

There's a spread in one of the stamp magazines about a woman in Michigan who has over 14,000 stamps (those are loose stamps not necessarily sets). She has an entire wall of iris carts full of stamps. It is soooo cool. I showed it to my dh to see how bad it can get!!
The physical objects we bring into our lives and accumulate are like the food we take into our bodies.
Every so often you need to elimate some to maintain a healthy balance.
Sort of like, if you haven't worn an article of clothing for over a year or two, out it goes.
This is important to me cause I have a lot of "Art" rubber in various themes and to continue amassing Stampin Up sets without occassionally weeding out those not earning their keep would no doubt result in "artistic blockage".
I am with Banshee Barbie. I am not a demo though! I have sold my old first stamp sets b/c I never used them anymore and my style has been evolving. So I get new ones!
But, just so you don't think I'm some sorta goody-two-shoes---the question I find myself asking these days is
When do I have enough paper? Or kinds of adhesive? Or embelishments? Or most importantly RIBBON! MMMMMM MMMMM RIBBON!

Ditto! Saw this also. It was remarkable!!
And the answer to the subject post is no.
When I was a little girl, my mother used to say, "One can never be too rich, too thin, or have too many silk shirts."
NEVER TOO MANY - if space gets tight - go and unmount the retired sets at least and put them in cd cases or mount on acetate and put in 3 ring binders - so nice that way and then DH doesn't know exactly how many you have and when you change to the unmounted and he sees wood going out he thinks you have done some clearing out - now of course you can take the wood and stamp on them too - I am sure we can think of things to do with the blocks
I have found only one problem with having 300+ stamp sets... deciding which ones to use! I did sell off a number of sets on SCS because I needed the money. If not for that, I don't think I would have. However, I have noticed that eliminating the sets I didn't use, didn't like, etc., hase freed up my artistic process. I still have a ton of stamps, way more than I probably ever use, but I think I brought it down to about 200 sets. And I feel it's more manageable.

The EZ Mount system eliminates wood blocks. You used their foam, which has a "cling" side... that side sticks to the cd case and the acrylic handles. Without the wooden blocks, the rubber and foam fit into cd cases. Cuts storage space DRASTICALLY!

You are all too funny!! of course, I agree!! The only one around our house that thinks there is such a thing as "Too many stamps" is my DH!!! If he only knew........ In the end though, I bet he has just as many tools!! And if he so much as touches one of my stamps..........I'll see that something happens to that thinga-ma-jiggy!!!!!
ok, i will sound like such a newbie.....lol..but i have 10 SU sets, and 4 TAC sets, and a rubbermaid shoebox size tote with my loose ones!!  I cant imagine haveing 300 sets!! that would be heaven!! LOL
I guess I don't have that many....maybe 15 su sets and a shoebox full of loose ones.
I'm sick of my standbys but am afraid to part with them b/c I use them for gift sets and they are easy to work with (vintage postcard, gentler times) I dislike Pines and by design. sigh. I don't think I'm good at choosing sets.
Never!!! I'm not sure how many I have. I only started stamping over a year ago. The more I get, the more I want, or need to have.
Now, when you happen to accidently re-buy a stamp... then you have too many.
My husband says that if we sold all my stamps and crafting supplies we could retire. Not that I ever would of course. I have more stamps than I care to imagine. And I love every one of them.
