You betcha baby! I became a member February 2005....the same month that I joined SCS. I thought...."Hey.......I'll just get a 6 month subscription and see if I really like it....that way if I don't I'll only be out the $9!" Well, after receiving the very first newsletter I was hooked! I extended my subscription for the rest of the year.....ordered the back CD's so I could have the techniques from the prior issues. Now my subscription has extended quite a ways into the future. I submitted several techniques that were accepted for publication. Then just last week, was asked to join the design team. Talk about flying high.
I think that TJ and SCS compliment each other quite well.
One of the things that I love the most about TJ is that you can belong to a Yahoo group. Members can submit their card creations via e-mail and it is delivered right to your e-mail box. It is much like posting a card in the gallery here but instead of just viewing the comment on your card, you can actually thank the person or ask them questions. I love it. I have found many new friends on TJ just as I have on SCS.
It would be very difficult if I had to chose between the two....they are very similar but very different at the same time. Many of the techniques are often very arty. Some are simple, some more difficult. Something for all stamping abilities. You can actually go on her site (www.patstamps.com) and view a free tutorial that shows you what the step by step filming for each technique looks like.
Besides.....now Pat Huntoon is offering a online only version of the newsletter for only $9.99/year. THAT is pretty hard to beat! Please tell her I (Ann Clack) sent you if you decide to give it a go!

I get the newsletter and love it. All the contributors come up with wonderful stuff. The hard copy of the newsletter (which I prefer) is high quality, and it laid out very well. Great info and content! When I first started getting the newsletter, there were some issues of me getting some of them. I ordered all the back copies and the priority flat rate envelope ripped! Pat was great and sent me the missing copies. They replied to my emails right away and fixed everything. I am one happy TJ reader!
Yup, Pat is the best! I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not either, so I put it on my b-day wishlist. My mom & gm bought me a year (plus ALL the back issues) and I fell in LOVE. The group is great, the techs are great & the daily eyecandy is exceptional. Now it's a christmas 'no-brainer'.
I too have all of them and the CDs. When I joined several years ago, I ordered the ones I didn't have already!!!!
I do like having the paper copies, because my computer is in a different room. But the online version has great pictures and samples. So they complement each other for me.
There's a good mix of things, too - I have gone out and bought new things to try, but sometimes I don't, but there are also a lot of things that use regular stuff I already have.
And while the techniques do often surface here or elsewhere eventually, it's nice to get them there "first".

I think it depends on what kind of stamper you are. It tended to be on the "artsy" side for me. I subscribed for a few years and have to agree that Pat did a great job putting it together but I rarely tried any of the techniques. I find that SCS tutorials are more my stamping style and are free! Hopefully things have changed, but there was always alot of flaming on Pat's Yahoo Group. That completely turned me off.

Wow, really? Then it has definitely changed! I would've been horrified if I had seen anything like that, I really don't appreciate that kind of behavior.
I have to agree that there are a lot of artsy type techniques, but they do a good job of pushing you out of your comfort zone - KWIM?

Yes, I'm not an artsy type stamper so much, but I find a good mix of that and "regular" stuff. And I have to say, a lot of the tutorials here, I saw on TJ first!
And yes about the comfort zone! LOL I've always needed nudging there!
I subscribe to just the cards, the chatting group was too much for me to keep up with. You can choose to get just the cards - one of their mods forwards each card through to this group.

I am a Technique Junkie as well....I LOVE the newsletter! I joined in June of 2004 and have also ordered all of the back issues on CD and also am a Ultimate Subscriber- I can go online and with one password see the picture tutorials for every technique ever published by Pat Huntoon.
There is a montly 1-4-1 swap, as well as an unofficial swap for ATC's that I have done in the past and hope to get back into soon! You get samples of many techniques doing the swaps.
I do not recall ANY flaming at all- I have found the group to be lovely and have met quite a few VERY, VERY nice ladies from all over the world!
The other nice thing is that we share our cards and ideas-on a yahoo board- and gather ideas/inspiration and appreciate stampers of all levels- beginners to expert artisans.
Additionally, I think you see such a variety of stamps used, and on occasion, some of the companies will offer us discounts. Many of the companies offer giveaways that Pat has on her blog every Wednesday- I am going to win one of these days- go check it out- you do not need to be a fellow junkie to join in! http://patstamps.blogspot.com/
scroll down and check out the giveaways from prior weeks, and the cards Pat makes that are part of the give away.
Anyway, hope this helps- and say hello to us on the yahoo board if you do decide to join! We'll look forward to seeing you and share techniques with you.
I'm on Pat's Turbo Team. Before I was asked to come aboard, I was a subscriber. Well worth the money. My roll is to come up with ideas for tutorials, and I write and do some of the photography work.
As a subscriber, not only do you get a high quality coloured copy in the mail, but you gain access to a subscriber only area with the step-by-step photos of the tutorial in your coloured newsletter. There is a mini gallery with Turbo Team cards for each tutorial.
The Yahoo group is a fabulous, and friendly, group where you have the opportunity to post, and view, cards by other subscribers.
There are oodles and oodles of inspiration flowing with the group. I do hope you join us.
Thank you for all the information ladies ... I'm not a very arty kind of stamper ... but I would like to learn new techniques ... I'm thinking of trying out the online only subscription for now and go from there.
Add me to the list of subscribers. I do admit to not trying many things in the newsletter, but that is due to my lack of time. I love getting online with my access. I have never got on the yahoo group, reason stated above. I just got my copy yesterday and I'm ready to try a few things out!
Kathy, I can't believe you expect me to go to a website for info that you can just tell me! SHEESH. It's like we are in CE and you are all, "Read the article nit wit" *totally kidding*
I was confused on the site about what past stuff you can see, it's all clear now.
I think I'd better sign up.

The beauty of being an ultimate subscriber is having just one password for all issues.
But I believe there is an online subscription that's cheaper - so you could get the old ones online and new ones in paper, or go all online.
It should be on the website? I'm not up on the details.
I can't remember how much I paid either, but when I became an ultimate subscriber I got access to all the back tutorials on the web... I don't have a hard copy, but can view them online and print them myself if need be.
I currently have a 3 year subscription so will be enjoying it for a long time...
I used to have a dirty dozen sub here, but found the tjn a better investment at the time. I'll probably renew my dd sub, but didn't have the extra fun money for both when I re-subbed to tjn....

Bah ha ha
It's confusing to me too, that's why I didn't go. LOL
So that makes us both nitwits. ;)

this is the page with the subscription info. The "ultimate" is a special she runs every once in a while for those whose subscriptions are about to expire. If you subscribe then join the yahoo group, you'll find info about the ultimate package....
at least that is how I purchased mine... I have to admit that since all the convention chatter started, I've been neglecting my junkies and went digest... I need to change that back to regular emails...
You can always email Pat and ask her if she's running an ultimate special. Well worth it since you get access to all the back issues online, plus all the current/future issues for as long as you subscribe.

I don't wnat to miss out on something ultimate... I like ultimate stuff.
I would even email Pat before joining/subbing and ask her if she's offering it... tell her a die hard fan and subscriber sent you ;) and told you about the ultimate package. Believe me, it is well worth it.
And you're more than welcome! While a lot of the techniques do end up being shared here, there are TONS that aren't.
I did an A-Z technique series using Pat's techniques. My club members LOVED them!
Despite the drama in the other thread, she encourages us to share, just not use her words. And since I was printing the directions on ATC's, you KNOW I was changing mine! Otherwise they wouldn't fit LOL!

Yea I'm not worried at all about the other thread. I mean almost every technique is around somewhere, I saw lots of that on the Carol Duval and I think thats been done taping for years. Anyhow I love the idea of someone arranging them into nice tutorials and printing them and mailing them to my home. I love the internet, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I need to be able to read stuff when I'm not sitting on my fat butt in front of the computer. I have this plan to leave them in the car for the first few weeks I get them so I can read them when I get stuck at Dr's offices and stuff...
who am I kidding I'll read them all the day they arrive.

You won't be disappointed in the hard copies, that's for sure! They are multiple pages, full color on glossy paper, very professionally done! Each page is jam packed with pictures, and many of them feature SU stamps which makes it great for me as a demo. Gives me even more inspiration when I'm doing classes and not workshops...
Um.. wha'ts an ultimate subscriber? how's much is that gonna set me back.
*has money burning a hole in her pocket and is trying to spend it on something that will last*
An ultimate subscriber is one who has all the past newsletters (I think CD's qualify) and they have a special password that lets them into any of the online tutorials no matter what year....you can also see the current newsletter the minute it hits the internet...even before your paper copy comes.
BTW......someone was talking about a lot of the techniques being around for ever and just being redone......WELL.......in the June issue, one of MY techniques was featured. As far as I know, it is original. I never saw anyone do it before! It is a new way to use a product that is already on the market! I just wondered if it would work....tried it....and it did!
