I know this thread is a couple of months old, but I just saw that
Scrapnfonts, has SVG files and they are cute. Love the one called "Programmed for Love" too cute
I was wondering what machines cut SVG files and if you can use the SVG files or other cut files) that can be bought from digital stamps sights.

Cricut (The full size machines like the Expression) will work with Sure Cuts A Lot software or Make The Cut software to cut svg files but it depends on your computer.
Both of those software packages have a problem with Windows 7 (64 bit) computers and the Cricut personal machine. There's a bug in the firmware of the small Personal Cricut machine that causes it to lock up when you try to cut.
The Cricut Expression works fine with both software programs and Windows 7.
If you have a Windows Vista or Windows XP then it will cut fine with either software program and the Cricut personal machine.

I recently learned you can also convert svg files for other cutters, I have a Silhouette and using Inkscape I converted a bunch of Lettering Delights svg files so I can use them w/ my Silhouette.

Do you know if you can convert to .gsd files for the Silhouette? A friend just got this machine and is having trouble finding .gsd files for it. Does Inkscape know that extension? Thanks!
It's the Windows 7 "64 bit" computers that are having the problem. 32 bit seem to work ok. I bought Make the cut and couldn't get it to work either. They gave me a refund as they couldn't get it to work with my Personal Cricut.
There's a discussion by several frustrated users on the Sure Cuts A Lot forum about the Windows 7 - 64 bit freezing at cutting stage problem. Here's a link:
I had the same problem with Make The Cut and they couldn't get it work for me. I have the Cricut baby bug that I bought two years ago. Maybe the newer machines are different but us older bug users have had lots of problems. I had to install the Sure Cuts A Lot program on my hubby's Vista machine. It works fine with my baby bug on that Vista computer.

yes, that is what inkscape does, you save the svg in inkscape (and separate if needed) as a dxf file and then open it in the silhouette and save it, there is no need for an extra step to then convert it to a gsd, it saves it.
the silhouette store has 1000's of gsd shapes but do a Google search and you can find a few sites that have free gsd files, not as many as svg though which is why I wanted to learn to convert them
I have Windows 7 (probably 32 bit, but not sure), and a Cricut Create that is 1 year old. I plan to get MTC in April, will I have problems or should I get SCAL?
