I'm sure many of us already do this, but what happened to me the other night on Amazon was just crazy! I have been looking for a tree die, and while looking at one by Doodlebug Designs another one by Dena Designs was suggested. It was a simpler design which I prefer, and cheaper so I put it in my cart. Less than a minute after I put it in my cart, the price dropped from $7.84 to $4.00! It's a Bigz die, and retails for $19.99, but I saw online prices anywhere from $11.99 to $15.99 for the same die.
I do not understand Amazon algorithms, but I'm always happy when I luck out and become the beneficiary
It is really helpful to use camelcamelcamel.com. If you're not familiar with the site, it shows the prices of specific items on Amazon so that you can see the high and low price and even get notifications when it reaches a certain price. Savings can be huge!
I wonder if there's a strategy buzzing around in the heads of some merchandisers...price my product at an exorbitant price for a time, lower the price by a huge percentage so it shows up as a "super deal" on sites like camelcamelcamel, get lots of sales at the "lower" price that is still inflated. Hmmmm. There's lots of MEGA-inflated prices on Amazon.
I know that JoAnns does something similar on some items, and here's an example. ArtBin die storage box. Retail list, and suggested retail from the manufacturer is $15.99. Typical wholesale price would be $8.00 to $9.60. If JoAnns lists regular price at $15.99, then they stand to make little to nothing when all of us go buy those with a 40-50% coupon. So, what do they do? Regular price is $21.99 from them. That way they still stand to make some money when we use a coupon. We would be paying $11.00 to $13.20. But I bought mine from WalMart for $10.15.
I always put things I am interested in on my Amazon wish list and check it a couple times a week. quite often things like dies go down drastically in price and I swoop in and buy it then. An Amazon store "Shop to Brands" has great prices on Sizzix and fast shipping. I highly recommend them.

I buy on Amazon.com from Canada and often I will get a refund applied to my credit card a week or two later saying the item/s have dropped in price. Makes me very happy.
I research pretty thoroughly before I make a purchase online, and find that while many of Amazon's prices are near retail, thousands more are well below! Add in free 2-day Prime shipping and...
But I did catch on to that jacked-up retail price/40% off coupon trick by Joann, so I triple check online average prices before making a purchase with them! Hobby Lobby does the same thing. I also have the Amazon scanning app on my phone so if I'm at the bricks and mortar stores I scan the product or code to double check prices before I buy.

I wasn't aware Amazon.com did that! I don't think that's ever happened to me here in the US

I didn't realize you could buy from Amazon.com from Canada. I thought it was for US only. That is so good to know. Some of the same products on amazon.ca are triple the price. Buying from amazon.com even with the exchange is a way better deal.
