There is a thread on the demo side - if I post a link, you might not have necessary access to see it.

YES, the Texturez plates work in the Cuttlebug.

Here is what works with my Cuttlebug - all of my Sizzix Texturz Starter Kit accessories are purple in color.

TOP OF STACK

purple Impressions Pad(came with Texturz Starter Kit - hard plastic)

purple silicon mat (came with Texturz Starter kit - soft)

card stock

purple Texturz plate, side you want to use facing UP

(if you need to shim, I would put it here - I do not need to shim)

Cuttlebug A plate

BOTTOM OF STACK

Hope this helps!

Kathy

Subscibing - both the Cuttlebug and SU's texture plates are high on my wish list.

Just want to let you know that the Texturz plates do not emboss as sharply/distinctly as the CB embossing folders. I got the Sizzix embossing kit and it came with several double-sided texturzing plates. I tried them and will not be getting any from the SU catalog or any more from Sizzix. They are just slightly better than the Fiskar plates that I just gave away. If you like a more subtle embossing, I guess these are okay.

Just my humble opinion, for what it's worth.

I have heard they work, but I have also heard that they are not like Cuttlebug embossing folders. I have not seen these Texturz plates in person so I can't say I know for sure, but I thought someone had mentioned that they do not give as deep of an impression as the Cuttlebug embossing folders. I'm hoping my demo might get some so I can see the actual plate and actual result before I buy any of them.

It's true - rather than a folder like the CuttleBug ones the Texture plates are just that - plates. The design is etched into them and you just place the CS over them then an embossing mat (rubber type) that will squish the CS into the design when you run it through the machine.

The design isn't as deep as the CB folders BUT if you mist the CS lightly with water it helps make a better image!

Also if you put an extra cardstock shim either under the texture plate or between the silicone and impressions pad it makes a deeper impression. And yes the embossing is not as deep as cuttlebug folders but it's a lovely soft look.

Wow - thanks everyone for your thoughts! I am sort of torn now ... I love the impression that the CB folders make and was hoping for something similar with the SU! ones. Hmmmm.

Anyway, thanks again for all your thoughts and tips!

I was tempted to get a set until I read in the description that it works on THIN paper.

They will work on ANY paper.. They are texture plates.. NOT EMBOSSING FOLDERS. There is a big difference. The texture plates are much more subtle than embossing..

JUST like using a background stamp but a little raised. These texture plates replace a background stamp.. I look at it that way.. these texture plates are $11.95.. ONE background stamp is $16.95. the plates give you 6 different background options. It really is a fantastic deal if you look at it that way!

If you want to make a deeper texture, then mist your paper with water to soften it a bit.. then run it through your machine.

My girlfriend and I were playing around with these today as well b/c I was not happy with the little embossing that they do and we found that using a standard cutting pad instead of the Texturz Impressions pad (keep the rest of the sandwich the same) you get a much better (deeper) embossing.
I will say though as a Demo and having some of the cuttlebug folders they (cuttlebug) folders do give a deeper embossing...but really like a couple of the SU plates so much worth it...to me:rolleyes:

I want to try the texturz plates on vellum -- I always had problems with the cuttlebug folders perforating the vellum.

Curious if anyone has tried using the empressor embossing tool on cardstock with the texture plates? If so, are the impressions deeper than running them through a machine? I was just sitting here thinking about that.

The new manhattan flower embossing die from Sizzix/SU, coming in March is like the cuttlebug folders. It gives a nice deep impression. Hopefully, if a lot of people buy it, then they'll release more.. I did ordered the texturz plates.. I will use Amy's suggestion and run it through after misting!

For ILdyson76: the empressor embossing tool would not make a deeper impression. The depth of the impression is the depth of the texture pattern on the Texturez plate. I think if you ran it through a die cut machine of your choice, and then went back over the texture with an embossing tool, you might be able to make the impression deeper, but you also run the risk of ripping the paper (that is already stretched).

They're bigger than a standard A2 cardfront - I have the Ellison ones (before they were sold to Sizzix and they make SU's ones) and they're more than big enough to do the whole card.

They WILL work with SU cardstock - that's what I always used. Misting the CS with water first makes a big difference.

And yes they should work fabulous with vellum as the etching isn't so deep that it would cut through like the CB folders do - so that's a big bonus

I like the patterns on the SU plates. My demo used several last night in her stamp camp, and they worked wonderful on the SU papers. Like most SU items they have a softer feel and look. They are better than the Fiskars plates, and I really like the SU argyle/harlequin pattern, it is really pretty, perhaps because it seems etched deeper than the rest of the Sizzix texture plates. These plates work well in the Big Shot, and made our cards and items turn out rather nicely.
I do have my CB and my CB embossing folders, and I like those too.
Depending on the effect you want to achieve, both are great products.

I am debating on getting the bigshot in addition to my CB.. I want to use some of my sizzix dies to cut through 3 mm aluminum and I am scared to do it with my CB.. anyone have any luck with that?

I sent DH to get the texturz starter kit from AC Moore with my 50% off coupon- that way I can use my SU plates when they come in tomorrow!

Will the SU texture plates only work with the Big Shot pads if you use the cuddlebug? I don't have any of the purple pads (impression and silocone). Is there any way to get around buyin the Big Shots pads? Is there a sandwich that works using only the Cuddlebug plates? I already have the SU texture plates but can't get them to work in my Cuddlebug. Thanks.

I read on a thread here to mist the CS with ALCOHOL rather than water bc it evaporates without damaging the paper. It makes a huge difference!
HERE is a card done with the texturz plate and a cuttlebug with a spritz of alcohol.

Here is my sandwich from the bottom up.

Bottom: Cuttlebug A plate
texturz plate facing up
Card Stock (spitz with alcohol, place face down then cover quickly)
Silicone pad (this could be a rubber mat or a rubber gasket from the Hardware store)
two sheets of scrap CS
Cuttlebug B plate

Roll!

Good luck with it!

Everyone mentions the Silicone pads to be used with the Texturz plates. Does the pad that you get to emboss the Spellbinders dies work? Do you need one or two?

Yes you can use the Spellbinders mats. Check out this article reviewing the Texturz plates being used in the Cuttlebug:
