i searched the forum but couldn't find anything... has SU! increased their shipping charges? i just placed an order [online] and was charged $8.50 for shipping. i was expecting the $6.95 flat rate, since my order wasn't over $69 [to warrant the 10% shipping rate].
You must have ordered through the SU website. If you order through a demo or a demo website, the minimum is $6.95.
But she said that she didn't go over $69.50, so the shipping shouldn't have been more than the $6.95 minimum charge, right? If she'd ordered $85 worth of merchandise (which would have showed up whether she ordered directly through a demo site or through stampinup.com), then I could understand an $8.50 shipping charge but apparently she didn't.

thanks everyone for your replies, but i'm not sure we've got it figured out. i DID sign-in under my demo, and received the appropriate [*discounted] rates for my ordered items. my order totaled around $55.... i was charged $8.50 for shipping.
Only orders placed on a demonstrator's business website (DBWS) receive optimal minimum shipping prices (i.e. $6.95 minimum). If you place your order on www.stampinup.com (even if your demo has his/her own SU website) you pay higher shipping prices.
I made this mistake myself the first time I ordered online from SU. Even though I had selected a demonstrator before starting my order, because I did my ordering directly from the SU website, my shipping was $8.50. I asked my demo why this is and she explained my error. So you can be sure that now when I place an order I go to her website then to the catalog and it's only $6.95.

That's correct. Even if you choose a demonstrator at the SU site, it is still the higher shipping. You have to go through your demos own site to get the lower shipping.
Vera, Susan and Kim - thanks for the additional information [which was confirmed by my demo today]. just a side note - the last TWO orders i placed on SU!s site only billed at $6.95 shipping, so it seems this is something that was changed or recently corrected.
I'm kinda glad they have this small incentive to steer folks to demos rather than just ordering through a "faceless" online store! I agree that it could be a tad simpler, though, with customers able to get the benefit anytime they name a demo -- maybe when you specify someone they could automatically direct you to that demo's website. Since this online ordering thing has been available for less than a year, maybe you could e-mail [email protected] and suggest that for a future improvement!

i'm not disagreeing with you i certainly understand your point of view. i used the online method, because i thought it would be easier for my demo... it wasn't really a 'faceless' transaction for me - just easier for us both since i knew what i wanted. i consider it a lesson learned.
i probably should have added, i thought i would get the premium pricing by signing in and having selected my demo - and in the past I did [incl. shipping], so there wasn't a reason for me to question it.

Let your demo know. This happened to one of my customers and she let me know. I called SU and they adjusted it for me. It is an honest mistake on the customers part. It can get very confusing.
THis is frustrating to me. I too went to the SU website, then choose my demo which gave me the discounted price on my items. But, when I got to the checkout, I was being charged $8.50 for shipping. It's like some kinda game to order from SU now. First they tell us to get a "discount" we need to log in and chose a demo, then they start changing shipping cause we dont go directly through a demos site. I thought logging in a choosing a demo was equvilent to a demos site? I know this seems like a small issue but I am tired of trying to keep up with the ins and outs of SU ordering.Maybe this just happened on a bad day, but for some reason this really ticked me of today. THings like this make me click on others companies sites and order from them because they make things simple for their customers and they offer free or flate rate shipping. UGH!!!!! Thanks for letting me vent

Send an e-mail to [email protected] and let them know exactly what you've told us here -- I also think that entering your demonstrator's name ought to be the same as clicking on the "shop now" link on the demo's website. Considering that the online ordering policy was intended to make it easier for demonstrators to get sales, I'm sure they'd be interested in hearing that the current system could actually COST sales from customers like you!

Thank you! Im headed there now. Maybe it will help change things to better suit the customer. Thanks!

Trust me, they listen to constructive criticism that also includes suggestions for how things could be done better -- that's how we got them to stop double-mounting all but alphabets and "bundle/kit" sets, to return a year early to the single catalog system, to offer In Color markers...

This ticks me off. I don't understand why I have to go to my demo's site, then click to the SU online store. It's a stupid extra step. I thought online ordering was supposed to make things easier, not make us jump through silly hoops. I didn't even realize I got charged extra until I saw this thread!

any one?
You are so lucky!! In Canada there is a minimum charge of $10.00 per order and that has been the case for many years. In addition, our SU stamps sets went up about - 10 - 25 % this year. A lot of Canadians are just steamed with SU! Oh well, I am planning to order a lot less SU! stuff this year and maybe for good. I never was a huge SU buyer - but the price changes in this catty are just crazy!

If you go to your demo's site then they get credit for that sale.
Otherwise SU will not know that you want to support your Demo or even who your SU demo is.
I don't find it as a Extra Step. I see it as something good. This means that the person who I want to purchase from it going to get the Credit for the sale.
I Just sign into my demo's site and then shop. I get a Email from her. and one from SU.

I agree. It is stuff like this that makes me not like SU. They seem greedy to me.

Give them the benefit of the doubt -- this weird quirk could just have been an oversight and they don't realize that folks who *are* choosing a demo are still paying a premium rate for shipping even though they aren't for the merchandise. Heck, I try to stay pretty well-informed and I didn't realize that choosing your demo's name through stampinup.com when you placed an order wasn't enough. The only way they will know this is a problem is if we tell them.

Just the opposite...Not being greedy...When they started online ordering they went out of their way to make sure that it was benefiting the demonstrators, not just the company. They want people to order from our sites so they can see our personal projects, specials and class schedules and get our personal service. But, if there are people that don't want to do that, they can pay a higher price which goes into a pool that is divided among all the demos that have an SU website.
If I understand correctly (which might be a first LOL), the OP when into SU's website, found her demo and then ordered. Her demo did get credit for the sale but b/c she didn't go in from her demo website she was charged extra for shipping. ????? I have never ordered SU online. My demo has a website that she has to pay for, and it seems kindof pricey to me. My thinking is that maybe if you just find your demo online SU doesn't know if she has a website (that they are getting $ for) so they charge the customer more????? Just a thought! Hopefully not! I think their shipping is high enough.

Yes, they will. When I order online, I sign in and my demo's name is at the top of the page.

But I DO see my demo in person for her classes, etc. Sometimes I just want to buy a few things online--it's quicker than filling out the order form AND (my favorite part) it comes right to my house. I don't think I should be charged more for shipping simply because I occasionally want to buy things online.

I totally get what you're saying- there's a happy balance between attending classes and ordering there and then ordering online. I don't think SU is trying to trick anyone though. If you want to know, demos are frustrated just maintaining the demo business website! It's complicated, time consuming and illogical! So frankly, SU just doesn't really have the whole "user friendly tech" thing going.
I agree with the other posters who feel they are having to jump thru hoops. I would suggest the obvious and keep your demo's website favorited and only access SU online ordering via her site. But even still, it should be that if you sign up and designate your demo, it should be a given you are supporting that demo!! So please shoot SU an email with your opinion. They really do listen!!
I just want to say if you are not happy with something Stampin' Up! is doing - let them know. They are really willing to listen and do make changes when they know it is the right thing to do and is feasible.
So really everyone - let them know how you all feel.
anyone know where I can get a list of the retired stamps? No, the website is not carrying the list - I called SU this morning and it was taken "off" as of June 30th.
I didn't even know it was there - sighhhhh
