When did Stampin' Up's Shipping and Handling charge go up? I was at a workshop this week and ordered a couple things. When I got home I noticed the shipping/handling was $6.95. Is that the minimum for S/H now, not 10% of the order? When did this happen? I'm sure this is seriously old news but it's the first time for me.
It went up in May, I believe. However, the 10% would apply if the total workshop order was more than the 69.50. So the 6.95 would only apply if you placed a single customer order of 69.50 or less or if the workshop totaled 69.50 or less. Otherwise, it is the 10%. I hope that makes sense!
I would call the demo and question it, if if was a workshop, you should be only paying 10% of the total price of items you ordered! She may have made a mistake!

The $6.95 would only apply if you placed a customer direct order less than $69.50, so it only affects a small amount of orders. Anything over $69.50 is 10% of the order. All workshops are 10% of the order.
Ouch! I just discovered this site and was all excited and ready to find a SU consultant, but at $7 a pop for orders, I may have to stick with regular stores. That seems a bit much. I can certainy understand a few buck for shipping, but 7?! Are all companies this much?

From what I read, yes, they are, or close to it. The price of everything is going up, and with gas especially, I'm not surprised they raised the minimum shipping cost.

You can find a local consultant at www.stampinup.com
She can combine your order with her other orders so that you only have to pay 10% shipping. Shipping costs have greatly increased lately. Some companies that might charge lower shipping choose to cover the costs by increasing the price of their products.
See for me, I think $6.95 or even 10% is not bad.
But I am up in Canada and our shipping is expensive...
and I think in general terms, b/c of the additional costs for labour, gas, etc... everything else goes up too...

You definitely need to call the demo. The only way you should have paid $6.95 is if you were the only one who ordered. Even if it was a small workshop and it didn't get above $69.50 the total shipping would still be $6.95 and should have been split between everyone. Maybe the demo was new or confused by the new shipping amounts.

FYI... Creative Memories Shipping/Handling charge is 7.00 for any order 100.00 or less, over 100.00 it is 7% of the order but then they charge tax on the entire shipping/handling charge as well. When you think about it, it is cheaper shipping/handling wise if you order from these companies than ordering something from ebay... regular shipping/handling through USPS or UPS or anywhere else is really expensive.

We all think that the shipping charges are high, however, I live in a rural area, so for me to go to the city to get supplies, I pay more then that for gas. My DH doesn't complain, because if I go to the city, it ends up costing alot more then just the shipping charges;)

Just to clarify - CM only requires its consultants to charge S & H in the states that require it. It is not a CM decision to do that. I live in Iowa & am not charged tax on S & H.
Also, most consultants do not charge a flat $7 fee for orders under $100. If you order off the CM website the CMCs don't have a choice but to charge it since the charges are done on the corporate level.
As for me when buying SU supplies, I just try & be careful to order when my SU demo is offering free S & H or order at a workshop. Most demos will work with you so you don't have to pay the $6.95 flat rate.
With all that is going up in prices these days....afraid to say ,this will stop me from buying extra things when needed....will only purchase at workshops. I love their things but I only have so much money and that's that! Might have to just do less or get another hobby. It's not only shipping, inks went up, some size stamp sets went up...lots of things have gone up. And it isn't going to get much better very soon.

Along the same lines, shipping/handling with SU! is pretty funny to me since my demo just placed her pre-order and they have been shipping her ONE re-inker @ a time for the new In-Colors! Wait....let me correct that, 2 of them came in her big order, 1 came yesterday, 1 is due tomorrow, and the other 2 haven't shipped yet. And they ship each little re-inker via UPS! How freakin' STUPID is that? THAT is why shipping costs are so high.....just wait until all the re-inkers are available and ship them @ one time. That's just dumb.....
I'm not going to complain about 10% shipping. I just saw diesel fuel at $5.09 a gallon last night. It costs me aobut $17 just in gas to go to my only LSS. It's $4 in gas just to go to the stamp store 10 minutes from my house.
Sadly, this is the future. Things are never going to go back to the days of $0.75/gallon gas that I saw only 10 years ago.

I think if you calculate the amount of time and the cost of gas, you'll find that going to the "regular store" is not much of a bargain, especially since, if you're like me, when you go into one of these places inevitably you buy and spend more than you intended. Talk to your demo about combining orders or joining a club and you may be able to get the 10% shipping rate even on smaller orders.
I am right here with you. I'm tired of hearing all these"excuses" of why shipping is going up. I work for a huge company. Shipping is dirt cheap and I do mean dirt cheap. If companies are going to go up on shipping, they should charge by weight not $ amount or percentages. This is one reason I only order from SU once or twice a week. I hate to say it but even my company gouges the shipping prices. It's sad that companies repay there loyal customers by ripping us off. Once again, these are just my thoughts.

Will you be my customer? lol!
I agree with the others that say you should contact the demo and see why it's $6.95 if it's from a workshop order. Most of my customers avoid paying the minimum (they pay 10%) because they put in a larger order less often. Others make sure they order at Stamp Camp or a workshop.

That's exactly what I was thinking today! I had ordered some punches that were backordered and 1 was shipped this morning and then another 2 were shipped a few hours later in a separate package!!
How should they ship backordered items? I guess they could go Priority Mail but with the exception of reinkers and other very small items, they would have to use a flat-rate box. Last time I looked, that was more than $6.95 a pop, at least for a box. It's $4.95 for an envelope. And, if customer items are backordered, the customer is not charged for the additional shipments. But, SU certainly is. I'm sorry, but shipping is what it is. It's high and it's high everywhere. I really don't think SU is gouging anyone on shipping. As an aside, I order some of my spices online. The shipment itself is very lightweight. For a $30 order, I get charged about $9.95 in shipping. Compared to some places, SU is actually cheap.

Same situation here! Costs me $15-20 to go to my nearest large shopping center... one reason why I ordered a Prius- lol - so I can shop more often... kidding!
I don't mind shipping fees, I love getting to order online and have things delivered way out here in the boonies.
If gas has doubled - it is only logical that shipping prices will increase.

How's that? It isn't cheap to ship anything. Now granted maybe some companies get a shipping discount, but do you know that SU does? Plus part of shipping is handling, no doubt about it. You have to pay people to get the packages out. I don't see it as gouging.

i REALLY wish companies shipped by weight. that's how they PAY for shipping... however, i understand that flat-rate shipping based on order amount is a simple way to implement shipping charges, and the hope is that it all balances out.

I just got a 3rd shipping notice today for the last of my punches... so all 4 were shipped today, but in 3 different packages... does not seem very cost-effective!
I don't see why $6.95 is perceived to be such a huge amount of money. That is a fairly standard shipping amount for most home based businesses. I know I have never paid less than that for PartyLite even when my item was less than $20. Many don't have the 10% for a workshop like SU does.
Maybe since I live in CA and paid $4.77 a gallon for gas yesterday, it doesn't bother me. It will take at least $6.95 to drive somewhere, road rage, and then find out they don't have what I want and come back home.
Charging by weight would be a logistical nightmare for any company. Can you imagine what it would take to weigh every box and then determine the cost? Yes companies get a break, I know mine does from UPS, but it costs money to buy boxes, have someone load the box, etc. There is that handing part as well.

I really wonder if this has to do with their ordering system and the computer just pulling the next item that is available and not being able to sort thru that Sally Sue might only have one item and Debbie has two more to come.
The shipping charges might be dirt cheap, but what about the packaging supplies, the cost (employee) of packing the box? Have you tracked a UPS box? From San Diego to Utah, it takes four different trucks to get it here. $6.95 or 10% is a bargain! For me driving to my LSS sucks up at least few dollars worth of gas, then my time having to get all prettied up to shop. Then who doesn't stop for a snack or soda or something. Then you find what you need, but oh, there's another store, let's check that out. By the time I'm done, I've spent way too much money. Just send your demo the order and pay the 10%. Think of all the money you'd save! ;)

I can only imagine how much time would be added onto the average length of a workshop or class if the demo had to figure out the weight of everyone's order and charge them accordingly. Everyone might as well bring over their sleeping bags. ;)
And I'm not sure that every company pays for shipping based on weight. I know at least one comapny that I used to work at had a flat rate/per package agreement with Fed-Ex. What a company pays really depends on the volume they ship and how well they're able to negotiate with the shipping company.
The bottom line is the costs of shippign are going up for everyone. All you need to do to figure out why is look at the price of gas/disel. If we have to pay more so do the companies doing the shipping, and if they pass on the cost to the shipper, then the shipper has to pass the costs to the consumers. That's what's driving up the prices in the grocery store and in retail stores. So while you may not pay a separate shipping price, you can bet that the prices at your local store either have gone up or soon will go up to compensate for the higher shipping rates paid by the store to their suppliers.
I think I found me a new consultant today. If she calls me back, keep fingers crossed. For what I want, it will be 10 percent where another one was going to charge me 6.95. And guess what, she is only approx. 8 miles from my house. grannypat
WOW! Was I surprised to see my shipping and handling thread on the front page again! For those who were wondering, I emailed the SU consultant and she checked into it. After calling the HQ (or something), she found out she made a mistake and we should have each been charged 10% of our order since it's a workshop. She said she'd reimburse us for the overcharge (mine would have been $3 something) but then she asked if I'd rather just have the catalog for free. Of course I took the catalog!!! She was very nice about it and I'm glad I said something...and I'm glad I'm getting a free catalog!

I'm glad it all worked out--thanks for letting us "enquiring minds" know what happened ! lol!

Oh...I'm okay with the fact that they ship them UPS, BUT, I think that they should wait to ship a few things @ a time, not just 1 little re-inker, then another re-inker. I'd rather wait a few days and have ALL my re-inkers @ the same time. I just think it's a waste! I KNOW I don't have to pay for the backorder shipping, I just think it's ridiculous.
